Disappointing - small & dirty room

    rating07 Jun 2026

We stayed at 6 different hotels on a recent vacation of Japan & S. Korea. The Hotel Gracery Kyoto Sanjo was by far our most disappointing hotel experience. While the location was convenient due to its central location, we were quite turned off by our room. The comforters on the beds all had stains on them. There was several pieces of garbage on the floor between the couch and the bed and a travel pillow had been left in the room by a previous guest. Luckily we were only there two nights and didn't need to spend much time in the room, but it was a standout in the wrong way compared to all of our other accommodations on our trip. We had two other hotels on our trip which were similarly "small" room sizes, but they were clean and cozy and we were quite happy to be in them compared to the Gracery.

    Tiny room

    rating26 Apr 2026

We stayed for 3 nights in the Gracery. On the plus side, it is very close to the Sanjo station, so easy to get around, however it was a tiny room, especially as we had two suitcases to leave and have regular access to. If we were staying longer, would definitely have upgraded to something bigger, but it was clean and had everything you needed. We had breakfast included, which was adequate.

    Good

Staying in this hotel for three night during Gion Festival, which is a great stay, since it is so close to Gion and all the events so that you could easily enjoy all of them. Moreover, its in the shopping street, which means you have enough choices for food and shopping. However, if you want a late-night snack, there are only Izakaya and a convenience store, as well as McDonald's.The most important thing you have to notice is the front desk for check-in, the hotel has two buildings, and if you are following the directions of Google Maps, you will go to the one near the convenience store. However, the front desk is located in the building opposite to it. Even though the hotel has signs that tell visitors to go to the opposite building for check-in, it is still inconspicuous, and many people, including me went to the wrong one.Besides that the room is fine, breakfast is good, too. I know Kyoto is not known for Unagi, but theirs are not bad, you should try it.Overall all, I will recommend for this hotel, which is a great place is you are planning to visit Gion and other places near it.

Great Stay in Kyoto with a Fantastic Breakfast

    rating10 Apr 2026

Had a really great stay at Hotel Gracery Kyoto Sanjo! The hotel was comfortable, clean, and a perfect base for exploring Kyoto. One of the highlights was definitely the buffet breakfast—lots of choice and a great mix of options to start the day right. It’s split across two buildings, which made finding the reception a little tricky at first, but once you get your bearings it’s absolutely worth it.Overall, a very enjoyable stay with great value, a fantastic breakfast, and a convenient location. Would happily stay again!

    Good location, fine service

    rating02 Feb 2026

Located along Kyoto’s Teramachi Shopping Arcade area, Hotel Gracery Kyoto Sanjo is a contemporary hotel convenient to shopping, restaurants and transportation. My son and I stayed three nights there during January 2026.We stayed in room 335 in the South building; it was relatively small, simply appointed but quite functional. The restroom configuration was very convenient, with the vanity, water closet and bathing room all separated. The beds were quite firm, as were the pillows; we slept fine, but woke up with stiff necks every morning. Be prepared to live out of your suitcase, as there were no drawers or storage areas for your clothes, just a couple of hangers. The lights, plumbing, air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi all worked fine. When you check in, you are given the option of purchasing their breakfast service, which includes both Japanese and Western breakfast favorites. If you forget any of your toiletries, they offer a complimentary self-serve amenities bar, featuring items such as toothpaste, lotion, tea bags, etc.We did a lot of walking in Kyoto and found this hotel to be a good base for our walks. It was less than a 5-minute walk to Nishiki Market, a 7-minute walk to the Kamo River, anywhere between 5-15 minutes to the various subway stops (depending on which line you need to take), and a 25-30-minute walk to such sites as Yasaka Shrine, Nijo Castle and Yasaka Pagoda. The common areas were very clean and well-kept, and the hotel staff was uniformly pleasant, polite and helpful. If you are not concerned about luxuries and prioritize function and value in a hotel, Hotel Gracery Kyoto Sanjo is a very good option.
