Great hotel all around except for lack of view from window

    rating28 Dec 2025

Perfect Kyoto location! The hotel's vibe is very relaxing. Sleep quality was great. Service was good and the hotel never felt crowded, even though it seemed to be at full capacity. The public bath was a welcome feature. I just didn't like that the room had no view - the window was completely frosted. Felt like I was staying in a windowless box. The booking websites should clearly state which rooms have or don't have a view.

Restful stay, quiet area but close to everything!

    rating09 Dec 2025

Peaceful atmosphere, quiet street, very close to shopping, Pontocho, etc. Near a subway station but Kyoto subway is not as useful as other places, so we used the bus to head to some shrines and it was easy from this hotel. Would absolutely stay here again. Pros: Very comfy bed and pillows! So quiet, slept so well. Humidifier/fan in the room, tea/coffee, lovely onsen that was clean and so relaxing. Dimly lit hallways added to calm atmosphere. Nice staff. Maiko performance was a highlight, very nicely done. Walkable and safe neighborhood away from the high tourist streets, but close to everything. Cons: Terrible coffee in the lobby. Smallish room and bathroom—not many places to set items in the bathroom. Nice bar area, but small selection of cocktails/inexperienced bartenders.

    Not a winner

    rating06 Nov 2025

The Hotel Resol looks better than it works -- bathrooms are tiny and plastic, loud - the rooms all look on to brick walls and the food is just average. No cleaning (to protect the earth) so the small room/steamy bathroom is just a damp, dark place to edge your way around a suitcase that has no place to go. There are five people at the front desk but none of them seemed to be able to help with recommendations (offered a map), getting a cup of coffee (suggested google maps) and they're keen on extra charges. It was an appealing first look and continued downhill from there. Lobby always smells fishy. Location we liked -- walkable to transit and main dining & shopping, quiet side street, beds were fine. But overall...would not recommend.

Nice stay and Maiko dance, but poor checkout experience

    rating28 Oct 2025

We had a pleasant stay overall. The location was convenient, and we really enjoyed the Maiko dance performance — it was a lovely Kyoto experience. The restaurant food was very good and reasonably priced. However, the checkout experience was disappointing. I misplaced one of the room keys, and one receptionist said there would be a penalty. Later, another receptionist checked me out without mentioning it, but the first one saw me leaving and followed me to the exit, insisting I go back to pay. It felt unnecessarily harsh, especially since our other room guests were not charged. The hotel doesn’t have its own parking, and nearby parking was quite expensive. The price list they gave for parking wasn’t correct either. The laundry room also closes at midnight, so clothes can get stuck overnight, and the dryer didn’t dry properly. The massage service was in our room on the bed rather than a proper massage table, which wasn’t ideal.Overall, a decent stay with good food and a nice cultural experience, but the service could be friendlier and facilities better maintained.

    Great atmosphere and great value!

    rating25 May 2025

My favorite hotel of the trip. Small somewhat boutique hotel. Great atmosphere. Very clean, new appearing. Other guests were ranged from kids to adults. Seemed to favor tourists versus business types. Fun lobby / bar with short ‘shows’ of traditional Japenese variety at 5pm almost daily. Unexpected but fun. 20-30 minutes for anyone who happens to be there. Free.Breakfast was good, and resonably priced. A buffet offering western and Japenese choices.Location seemed to be as good as any. Room, standard twin, was decent size. We had larger in Kobe and much much smaller in Tokyo.
