    Loved this hotel. Great location. Quite like a Riokhan but ultimately a hotel. Friendly and welcoming too. Loved the free drinks too!

    Good breakfast, good dinner in the teppen restaurant. Very good beds. This is a design hotel, and everything is beautifully designed in square pale polished wood tables, chairs, and interiors. Lovely little rock garden outside the rooms. Beautiful room, but no hanging space for trousers or coats. Much space taken up by enormous locked cupboard apparently for a futon. Should be replaced by proper wardrobe. They can supply a rack, but that ruins the look of the room. Convenient for Kyoto station and underground and bus lines.

    Not A Hotel For Seniors

    So disappointed in this hotel, but I guess I should have done more research. Tour operator booked this for us and should have realized that it wasn’t appropriate for our age (over 70) and the total price we were paying for our trip. The bed is called a western bed but the mattress is on the floor, with about 8 inches of room on each side of bed, making it nearly impossible to get in and out of bed. Once in the bed though it was very comfortable with lovely bedding . Very small, narrow room with 4 small chairs and table and only windows were high above the bed with no view. I felt like I was in a box car with no windows. The bathroom was the best part - very lovely and big wooden round tub with shower. Good buffet breakfast. After one night we found another hotel which was more appropriate for our needs.

    This is a terrific place to stay -- a balance of modern convenience and traditional style. The family really loved the location (tip: 3 minute walk to a beautiful temple that has daily morning monk chanting). Very comfortable and clean.

    We arrived in Kyoto around noon and checked in to the hotel. The rooms weren’t ready but we completed the paperwork and were able to leave our backpacks in the reception area. We headed to our scheduled tea ceremony and were back in the early evening to get to our rooms. We had 2 rooms (1 for parents 1 for young adult children). Rooms were large and we liked the seating area. Yukatas were provided to wear in the rooms. We had breakfast each morning, which had a wonderful selection. They offer cultural experiences on certain days but unfortunately we didn’t get back in time to try one. We did enjoy a free local beer in the lounge area which was nice. Front desk staff were helpful. We loved the location- easy walk to the train station and to the subway. 7-11 just half a block away (if there are no onigiri left it is my daughter’s fault!). Would stay here again if I get the chance to come back to Kyoto!
