    Meah

    rating28 Oct 2025

Not so great, slightly less than average, but not poor. Why? well, it is quite inconvenient in terms of access to public transportation (the subway entrances are about 15 minutes walk, which may not appeal if you are rolling or pushing carry-on, and there are few restaurants close by. The hotel restaurant has a limited menu, and breakfasts alternate on even days Western, on odd days Asian. Our omelettes were barely cooked, so perhaps go for scrambled, if you have a Western breakfasts. The place could use a refresh in the rooms, but overall looks very nice. Bring a translator app, if you don't speak Japanese.

Beware. No air conditioning in April

    rating08 Apr 2025

It would have been a good stay but there was no air conditioning in April, so we didn’t sleep well. Hotel advertised that the place was air condition but not in April as “it was not the season.” Ugh. Friendly staff and everything g else was fine.

Decent choice if you are looking to stay away from the crowds in Kyoto

    rating21 Apr 2024

The hotel is in good condition and room cleaning is done every day (not the case everywhere in Japan), which is very nice. The room is a decent size for Japan, it didn't feel cramped, and there is a closet for you to put your clothes in. It's also quiet, I never heard any noise from outside. For breakfast you have a choice between Japanese or western sets, which do not really change day by day. I stayed here for a week, so it got repetitive. This is a hotel that has the facilities to hold weddings, banquets, has a restaurant with garden view, and a separate coffee shop. They could have a buffet breakfast. The hotel in a quiet area and is right across the road from the imperial palace. It doesn't have many shops and restaurants around it. Dining choices are quite limited, you will have to walk about 10 min to get to an area with some dining options.

    Great value hotel

    rating16 Aug 2023

I recently stayed at this hotel as my first stop in Japan. The room is small for a solo traveler but in a really nice and quiet residential neighborhood. The staff really go out of their way to help me with Yamato carrier service. There is a vending machine on my floor which is not your average American vending machine. Grab a cold drink before combatting the scorching heat outside in July. The imperial garden which is now only a public park is right across the street, and there is a shrine next door whose mascot is a wild boar. It's supposed to protect people from back and foot pain. Walk to subway is pleasant if it's not scorching outside. I walked by several other hotels in this area that are now permanently closed. The price here is great.

    Quiet hotel

    rating01 Apr 2020

We came across this hotel since we wanted to stay close to the Imperial Palace which was one of the main sites we had on our to do list for Kyoto, it's literally across the street. However, if you are more interested in the Gion part of Kyoto, this will be too far away unless you do not mind paying for a taxi. The hotel is rather unassuming, nothing really stands out about it which in itself is a plus, it simply depends on what you are expecting from your hotel stay. We appreciated the efficiency of the staff and how quiet it was.Rooms feel a bit old and are quite small including the beds, at least the one we were assigned. Mind you, we booked at the last minute and Kyoto was rather full so there may be bigger room types. However, we only stayed in our room to sleep and, again, this is a very quiet hotel even when full so this is appreciate to rest after a day of long walks in Kyoto.Breakfast has both Japanese and Western options which will ensure you are ok to start off a day of exploring.
