Average overall and 2 hotels in one (sort off)

    rating28 Apr 2026

Beautiful gardens as we stayed through blossom season. There are 2 hotels. The new one is the Shin and the older one just the Grand Prince. We stayed as multiple families/friends our sons wedding with people in both hotels. Venues nearby. Overall experience very mixed so mark as averageWe stayed twice travelling in between but both times in the Shin. 2nd time upgraded to a club room with lounge access which was excellent. Champsgne in the evening and excellent free breakfast. Also suites and club rooms totally refurbished. Other roons are very dated, comfortable beds all round, bathrooms not great. King corner rooms very spascious. Normal breskfast has a queue and was way over pricedOn arrival we had to load up our own bags (we had 6 between 2 of us due to wedding and long visit), Not an issue but generally concierge were doing bags. Reception were unhelpful in the extreme with every request having no fjexibilityCommon areas were very modern. Over the the top strict rules in the over priced bar. We used as meeting point for first few nights and were the only ones there, stopped usingGym was an extra charge!!Good on-site buffet restaurant, 7/11 and coffee shopGood location and near one of the biggest metro stations that also has a stop for the bullet train to/from KyotoNext year when we go will not stay as long in Tokyo and will book more central

Nice hotel, underwhelming experience for travel.

    rating22 Apr 2026

Overall, the hotel offered a pleasant and comfortable stay with a really inviting atmosphere. The common areas were clean, well-designed, and had a relaxing vibe that made it easy to unwind after a long day. The staff were welcoming and professional, which added to the overall positive experience. That said, there were a few downsides worth noting. The rooms, while tidy and well-kept, felt a bit smaller than expected, especially if you’re traveling with luggage or staying for multiple days. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but definitely something to keep in mind if you prefer more space. The breakfast was good in terms of quality and selection, but the price felt a bit steep for what was offered. It’s probably worth trying once, but not something I’d personally opt for every morning.Another factor to consider is the location. The hotel isn’t particularly close to major attractions or popular areas, so getting around required some planning. Most sightseeing spots were about a 20–30 minute train ride away, which can add up over the course of a trip. All in all, it’s a solid option if you value a calm, pleasant environment, but the smaller rooms, pricey breakfast, and less convenient location are worth considering depending on your travel priorities.

    Excellent, clean hotel

    rating17 Apr 2026

We stayed for five days, four nights and enjoyed every minute of it. All of the staff, from the front counter to the restaurants and club room were exceptionally friendly. Very clean, great central location to the train station. We would definitely recommend.

Very satisfied with the "Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa"

    rating24 Mar 2026

I had changed my reservation quite a few times till I finally stayed at the "Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa". A good choice!Four nights at the end of March 2026 just when the cherry blossom started. The price was comparatively high due to the season and as single traveller paying the same price as two individuals in some hotels including this one.My choice was based on the good location close to Shingawa station, the good size of the room instead of much smaller ones closer to the city center and the gym. Latter was small but decent, only cardio machines.Lots of amenities and friendly staff made the stay overall very pleasant.

    Do not recommend

    rating13 Feb 2026

We had booked Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa, but our taxi accidentally dropped us at Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa. From the moment we walked into Shin Takanawa, the reception staff were incredibly welcoming, kind, and helpful. I didn’t catch the gentleman’s name at reception, but he warmly guided us to the correct hotel and even arranged for staff to help carry our luggage. Every staff member there showed genuine hospitality.Unfortunately, the experience at Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa was completely different. The reception staff were cold, unwelcoming, and not helpful at all. After a long flight, we politely asked if early check-in was possible — we were immediately refused. I then asked if they could at least take our details to make check-in quicker later, and again the answer was no.What shocked me most was that they said no rooms were available — but suddenly rooms became available if we paid ¥6,000 per room for just three hours (we had two rooms!). This felt very unfair and disappointing, especially after explaining we were exhausted and unwell from traveling.I have traveled to over 50 countries and stayed in many hotels, and I have never experienced such poor hospitality.I would like to thank the luggage storage counter staff, who were the only ones who were kind and helpful.Sadly, because of the reception experience, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
