Dream hostel experience
19 Dec 2025
I have always imagined experiencing a Japanese hostel, and I was so glad my research led to this. This was one of the most unique hostel experiences I could've asked for and my only regret is that I didn't spend more than only one night. The hostel is very accessible, <2 min walk from 3 major subway lines. There is a supermarket and 7-Eleven close by, a café in the same building (separate from Manga Art), as well as tons of small bars and restaurants in the area. There is also a public smoking room 3-4 mins walk away. The check-in was very smooth, and the process was explained in detail over email in the days leading up to it so I wasn't shocked or confused by anything. The women dormitory is on the 4th floor, and had a lot of manga selections. I was placed on an upper bunk (by request during booking), and there was space provided on the ground near the stairs to stow luggage and shoes, and slippers provided to move around. The common area in the front to eat and drink is really just a small window-facing bar counter with bar stools but it was very cosy and warm (it also has a kettle). The heating in the room itself was a little higher than I like, but I honestly made do without issue with the portable fan provided in my bunk. I will say storage space isn't a LOT. If you have a large suitcase, you'll have troubles. I only had a backpack, and I saw some other guests manage to comfortably fit a cabin-size suitcase in the space below the bunk but anything larger might be hard. The hangers in the bunk also don't allow for long items (such as coats) but shorter jackets and scarves fit just fine. The bathroom areas were very clean, as were the showers. Amenities included fresh towels (for those staying consecutive nights, for single night guests such as myself, one body size towel is provided in the bunk), hair dryers, hair curlers/straighteners near the common area, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, ear plugs, and toothbrushes with paste. They also provide little manga stands for your room if you take multiple to the bunk (no more than 5, as per the rule at the hostel). There was also a large shelf with cosy fluffy blankets for anyone feeling extra chilly. There is also a balcony with tables and chairs which might be enjoyed in gentler weather. The manga selection itself was vast. The bunk I was assigned was close to the English section and there were many popular ones in English (like Tokyo Ghoul and Fullmetal Alchemist) but also lesser known ones I hadn't heard of before. I enjoyed being able to explore 2 volumes of a slice of life manga I hadn't heard of before. All in all, if you're the type to enjoy a truly cosy capsule-style hostel, then you will adore this. But if you prefer larger dorms with wide open lounges and cafeterias etc, this isn't the spot for you. It's quite compact, and only on 2 floors (essentially 1 floor depending on which gender dorm you go for).

Fun place for a night
31 Dec 2019
The beds are embedded in a manga library- two levels with lower level being female only. Unfortunately there are a few design flaws that made life a bit uncomfortable- minimal hooks around bed area (only two inside pod but couldn’t really hang big coats), very small and cramped entrance to both levels, AC was extremely hot and pods didn’t feel well ventilated. Location was great, lots of places to eat around the area.
