    A DISGRACE; ZERO STARS!

    rating24 May 2026

For a hotel operating in Japan — a country that has elevated cleanliness and omotenashi into something close to a moral code — The Knot Hiroshima delivers the exact opposite. What I found in my room was not a lapse. It was a pattern. The toilet tank basin was streaked with a pinkish residue that hadn’t seen a cloth in days. The carpet looked like it hadn’t been properly cleaned in months: brown stains soaked into the fibers, food debris scattered along the baseboards, hair, and unidentified yellow specks in plain sight. The wallpaper near the floor was peeling and damaged. And then there was the Q-tip. A used cotton swab, left on the carpet against the baseboard — clearly from a previous guest. That single item tells you everything. It means the vacuum never ran. It means housekeeping either didn’t enter the room or walked through it without looking down. There is no charitable interpretation. A used Q-tip from a stranger is what was waiting for me when I checked in.This is not a question of an aging property. It is a question of basic discipline. In Japan, the standard for a midrange hotel — let alone one branding itself as a design-forward boutique — is that a guest never has to think about whether the room is clean. The Knot Hiroshima forced me to think about it constantly. To operate a hotel in Hiroshima — a city that draws visitors from around the world and represents Japan to many of them — and present rooms in this condition is not simply poor management. It is an affront to the city, to the culture of hospitality that surrounds it, and to every guest who chose this property expecting the standard Japan is known for. Housekeeping is failing, supervision is absent, and ownership is either unaware or indifferent. None of those are acceptable. I will never return to this disgrace of a hotel

    Maybe… Maybe Knot

    rating04 May 2026

This hotel is situated quite far from Shinjuku Central and is a distance to anything substantial. Very difficult check in and staff understand little English. Sometimes it was difficult to express needs without translator apps.We had Breakfast included, but it was a basic fare and the menu did not change throughout our 4-day stay. You have to pay for milk coffee separately which was a pain. We had dinner in the restaurant and it is expensive and small portions. Rooms are very small but quite clean and tidy. The foyer was constantly packed full of people and with a small gourmet bakery attached to it. Everyday there were lines of up to 30 people waiting to be served there through the main foyer. Staff are very friendly though. We required a wheelchair as we were travelling with an elderly family member and it was a very basic one without cushioning and they charged us a deposit of 30000 Yen ($300 AUD) to be able to take it outside the hotel. Granted, it was returned in full once we returned the chair.

Great Vibes, Great Food, Great Start to Our Trip

    rating01 May 2026

My husband and I stayed here for our first three nights in Japan, and it was a great start to the trip. Getting here from Narita Airport was easy on the Narita Express. The hotel has a great vibe the moment you walk in — an open‑concept lobby with a huge communal work table, concrete‑and‑wood design, and upbeat music that instantly puts you in a good mood. We initially thought our room was small, but now realize it’s actually average (maybe even roomy) by Japan standards. We asked for a second luggage rack, which the staff happily provided, and it made a big difference in getting our bags off the floor. We usually avoid hotel restaurants, but after a long travel day we ate at The Knot and ended up having fantastic wagyu burgers. Breakfast was also excellent. Staff were consistently friendly and helpful. One small nit: signage says happy hour runs from 3:30–5:30, but it actually ends at 5:00. They want everyone cleared out by 5:30 so they can transition to dinner service.
