A stylish place lacking some functionality

    rating29 Sept 2024

Booked this hotel as we wanted to be certain of car parking - we had looked at some places in the centre of Ipoh that couldn't guarantee availability of a car park.On first glance, this place is quite cool - industrial chic, funky decor. The room was well appointed, the bed very comfortable. Though we had booked one of the more expensive rooms, we were told on check-in that these rooms faced a late night karaoke place and it may be noisy (fortunately, we heard very little of it). In practical terms, some things were a little annoying. Lots of light switches that did different things - finding the right combo for darkness took a moment. The bathroom door arrangements for the shower and toilet, whilst space saving, were a little odd. The fridge didn't seem to actually cool anything down. It was also a good 10-15 minute walk from the centre of Ipoh. Not the end of the world, as we had a car, but if you were on foot it's probably a bit far out to be an ideal spot.I'd probably stay here again...but only probably.

    FIRST & LAST

    rating28 Sept 2024

Dis is will be FIRST & LAST.. actly dis is my 2nd hotel after check out from WEIL Ipoh.. being here just bcause of ada media event only but today wanna to complain bout da reception staff who are veryyy arrogant & not friendly towards customers at all.. THE ONLY ONE LADIES.. Ingatkan masa check in tu muka ketat sbb penat sbb kiteorg check in pun dh mlm.. so faham la.. tapi check out pun sbegituuu! hahaha~ Room clean but the unwelcoming attitude of the staff is very disappointing, making us feel undervalued as guests.. mcm kita stay free pulak! standards hotel for a 2-3 star hotel tp gaya dia mcm hotel tu dia owner gais.. mcm hotel dia 5 STAR pulak! If you rasa stress jadi reception dengan muka moody mcmtu, stay belakang takbir jela dik.. be a housekeeping.. Baik yg lelaki pula, elok berbudi bahasa.. ouh ya lagi satu, CHILLER sampai 2030 pun xkan sejuk air korg.. ROSAK! Next, TV tak tahu lah chanel apa korang ambik.. hahaha, aku duk Thailand pun elok lg channelnya.. nie dgn siaran kejap ade kejap takde last skli ttup terus! Please check.. Thank you.

    Style over Substance

    rating24 Jul 2024

On the surface, this hotel has a lot going for it and with a few tweaks it could be really good. At the moment however it's too much style and not enough substance. For example, it's beautifully designed with some lovely furniture and clever updating of an old structure (the reconditioned floorboards are gorgeous). The rooms are small but that shouldn't in itself matter. They're compact and have good storage plus a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities. I was on my own. For two people I can imagine a lot of having to work around each other especially as, if the shower door is closed, the toilet door is open and vice-versa. Clever but actually, not terribly practical. More annoying, in my room there were no lights anywhere near the bedside. Nothing to read by, just a big but not very powerful chandelier on one side of the room and a strip light above the curtains. To turn them off, I had to get out of bed and cross the room and then stumble back to bed in the dark. In the morning, my friend in another room asked whether I'd worked out that the wooden rocking horse taking up half the bedside table was actually a light switch. He'd knocked it by accident and the lights went out. No, I hadn't worked out that - why / how should I have done? And why place a large wooden rocking horse by the bed instead of a useful reading light and then expect people to guess that it has a purpose? As I say, style over substance. My second major problem was with the breakfast, served in a separate but adjoining establishment. The choice and quality were poor, the time it took to get some simple buttered toast ridiculous (about 25 minutes from order to it arriving). The hotel has "an arrangement" with this cafe. I suggest they end it and either set up their own breakfast facility, or give the job to the excellent Japanese restaurant on the other side at which we had a superb dinner. Others on this and other sites have complained of the noise from the Karaoke bar across the street. I was on the rear side of the hotel and didn't hear anything but it's worth checking if that's still a problem. The bar is still there and very much alive and kicking! In summary, this hotel was fine for one night stay but I wouldn't hurry back.

Quirky and fun but a few niggles

    rating24 Jul 2024

Quirky and stylish hotel, which adopts a shabby chic persona. I quite enjoyed the feel of it, yet some things let it down. There is an excellent Japanese restaurant downstairs, though it’s not formally part of the hotel. Neither is the cafe where breakfast is served, which doesn’t begin operations til 0800… not very helpful if you need to get cracking on your day. You need to take a token from reception if you have a breakfast-included tariff, and if you don’t have, then you must pay cash because you can’t add the cost to your hotel bill. Meanwhile the room did not have a bedside light and it was quite dark - too much so for reading. The location is a bit out on a limb, so there’s not much you can walk to, and a very loud bar across the road may be too much for light sleepers. It’s by no means a bad place, but maybe a bit of a triumph of style over substance.
