  I was actually looking into properties that are located in the center of Geoergetown Penang, and since it’s holiday season, it’s quite difficult to find good accommodations, or if available, they can be overly expensive. After careful review, I decided to book myself here at Sweet Cili Hotel. Parking was quite difficult here if you come by own transport. I’m lucky to have found myself a public parking spot by the roadside (MYR 6 per day, paid using Penang Parking app). Checking in was quick, and no security deposit was taken. As obligated by the local govt, only a MYR 2 heritage tax was charged upon check in. Shoes are not allowed beyond the reception area, and it’s a walk up property. Room was spacious, and with vintage vibe to it. It’s equipped with a flatscreen tv, filtered bottled water, kettle , iron, security box, basic toiletries, and mosquito repellent. I love that the room has a concept, not boring looking. Mattress was of firm type, and pillows are basic (medium firmness), so sleep quality was average. Shower water pressure was fine, and water heater worked well. Coffee, microwave and water dispenser was provided at the common area downstairs, and unlimited.

  Penang’s Heritage in one Stay

  Sweet Chili Is a very tasteful heritage hotel with a lot of vintage decor and touches all around. It is in good proximity to many Penang popular spots without being in the hub of it all. Think of it as being in the heart of Penang but on the outskirts of the noisy and loud. Coffee is also provided at the lobby of the hotel and there is just a sincere air bnb vibe about the place. Kudos and well done for providing us comfort during our stay. Thank you!

  What I like about Sweet Cili Hotel (“SCH”) are as follows:1. Cleanliness - the reception, the common room and the room are kept sparkling clean all throughout our 3- night stay.2. Hassle free check-in and check-out - both processes were quick and smooth.3. Location - SCH is situated near the heritage sites, reachable by walking. If driving, the roads can be busy.4. Room - My family of 4 stayed in the loft room which has ample space. The décor is a vintage theme which we find charming (as per the photos shown).The few things that I find challenging (my own observations) are:1. The bar next door played music from opening time till closing time (if you’re one to sleep early/ light sleeper, this might be a concern). Our loft room is just next to the bar.2. If you drive, the car parks are those street parking bays operated by the Penang Council. It can be difficult to find a parking bay during peak hours. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at SCH.

  Average and hardly meeting expectation

  The room and bathroom, in general, look fine, but there is no window, no housekeeping, and no proper reception service (check-in through a supermarket next door). In the booking option, they didn’t provide breakfast service, but upon arrival, they did offer coffee all day in the lobby along with toast and jam in the fridge. when a staff member was around, she gave us a very good map-orientation of the city and a recommendation for good restaurants.

  Tastefully decorated hotel, convenient location in georgetown. The choice between soft and hard pillow, they have their western restaurant and mini market nearby, very convenient. our family enjoy our stay here, recommended:)
