    The excursion to El Cielo was one of the best days! The crew took great care of us. A huge shout out to Santiago, Vega, Luis, Jose , and Fernando on Boat number 9.     Love Cozumel!

    We had a great time snorkeling, scuba diving, bicycling, and a little relaxing too. Everyone was friendly. Our room was very clean and had everything we needed. The Explorean is a nice quiet retreat away from the more lively atmosphere of the Fiesta Americana. We loved the excursions, especially El Cielo. However, I wish we could have chosen what our excursions were each day. There were some we missed out on, but that is a good reason to come back! Our tour guides, Nestor, Pega, Daniel, Jassiel and others took good care of us making sure everyone was having a great time and kept safe. We will definitely come back to The Explorean.     Pros: Amazing snorkeling and sea view at Fiesta with friendly staff throughout both properties & a variety of places to eat. It was also terrific to have daily excursion opportunities led by outstanding tour guides. Note: next time I might pay to book a couple of private excursions in order to maximize my time spent on the fun parts of the outings :)Room for improvement: 1. Rooms: I was hoping for 2nd story room due to mildew allergies, discovered 2nd story rooms are king bed only; we needed 2 beds for 3 adults. Our room was adequate though not ideal for 3 persons as storage is limited and only private area to change is in toilet room which doesnt have hooks or shelves. Room issues: strong mildew odor, mold on shower grout, leak from ceiling over vanity area on day 2 which drenched our toiletries & make up. Moved to new room where hot water worked off/on, day 4 woke up to scorpion in bed 4:30am, and shower stopped draining & flooded room on day 6. Not fun!2. Communication: we tried to book my son's wedding at Fiesta beachfront. As communication to gather info & finalize details was continually a problem over 5 mos, we gave up & booked at Sky Reef with 1 month to go! (Sky Reef was a beautiful setting with timely communication during planning phase & good service day of).Our group of 15 booked seven rooms 6 mos in advance. Unfortunately our requests to have rooms nearby each other couldn't be accommodated & our 7 rooms were spread out amongst 6 different 4plex huts.3. Maybe this is nit picky but it would have been nice for the bride & groom, who bought a membership last year, to have their room request for second floor honored as well as a little something special in their room as a recoconition of their wedding & honeymoon. In summary, I'd recommend the Fiesta for couples or small families who want to enjoy the beautiful oceanfront setting.     4.5 Highly recommendWe came for the snorkeling – which was wonderful -- but we got so much more. At 70 plus, my husband and I have travelled extensively, but independently. This was our first time in Mexico and our first time at an all inclusive resort. The Explorean was perfect for us: quiet, thoughtfully designed, surrounded by jungle greenery with easy access to the water's edge as well as the more lively Fiesta Americana. We didn't take advantage of the larger hotel but liked knowing it was there. We did take advantage of all the activities: 4-hour buggy trip around the island; cycling to ceynotes, the Chankanaab Park and a nearby sand beach; snorkeling at the very local Dzul-Ha reef as well as three offshore locations. Two to four hours long, each activity left time for leisurely meals, a swim in the pool and even naps.All the staff – front desk, restaurant, cleaning, maintenance and activity -- were genuinely friendly and kind, helpful and gracious. It would be easier to name the one person who wasn't (but we didn't get his name :-).Perhaps the staff we got to know best were the ones who took us out. Endlessly energetic, enthusiastic and patient, they kept us safe on the road and in the water. We loved learning about Cozumel from them and still think of them fondly. We also appreciated how much Explorean cared for the environment. We'd been cautioned that hotels often used disposable plastic glasses so we brought our own but needn't have. We had cloth napkins at all meals and our morning coffee, delivered to the room, was served in china mugs. If we were to make a suggestion it would be to vary the vegetarian entree at dinner. It was the same. Every single night. There were more vegan selections but again, the same every night.Also, they might update their website which offered among other things: hiking, going deep into the tropical jungle, horseback riding and driving dune-buggies none of which were apparent.
