Very relaxing five night stay and good base to explore Fes

    rating31 Oct 2025

Amazing five night stay. There are only 7 rooms so you will get very personal attention starting with welcome tea and explanation of local sights and map. Riad is very traditional with beautiful tilework and colored windows. Bit confusing to find at first as the name on the door says "family oedghiri" not the name of the hotel. There is a little shop beside that sells drinks and snacks. Very walkable to all the sights and close to the Blue Gate. Breakfast is on the roof which is a slow process as they have to bring the tray up for each person from the ground floor. Staff is young, very friendly with perfect English. For my early morning day trip they gave a bagged breakfast for 7am departure as normal breakfast time is 830am. Very relaxing stay for my five nights and good central base from which to explore all of Fes. Just noise from people talking in the common areas but that was the same in all the Riads I stayed at. Cover picture on tripadvisor with a lake and trees is wrong.

    Unethical owner

    rating10 Jan 2025

Terrible experience. We had reservations for 2 rooms made on Tripadvisor in early September. The one smaller room was reserved at a sale rate and the bigger room was reserved at the full rate. We had the confirmations on the Tripadvisor app and there was no indication of a problem. We arrive to check in and we are told that the reservation for the discounted room had been canceled so we have only one room. We were told this by Yousef, the front desk person. We were not angry, just perplexed. Then Adil came out and started screaming at us that WE had canceled the room and waving his phone in our faces with a screen shot that just said my name and canceled. We asked to see the actual app in real time for more details and he responded it was down. Uh huh. He also said they had never taken reservations through Tripadvisor, which is a straight up lie because you can make reservations through Tripadvisor to this day. I think the sale rate was a mistake or they just didn't want to honor it because they could get more. The real problem is that we were never notified. Everything ended up fine because we found a better place to stay very quickly. The credit card company refunded the money for both rooms because this was clearly fraud (the room was "canceled" but the room charge was not reversed.) We talked to our guide for the next day and he said he would not have anything to do with these owners because of prior "bad dealings." Be forewarned that you will be dealing with unethical owners and they may not honor your reservation if you reserve here.

A great stay with lovely hosts!

Despite finding it a little hard at first to locate in the vast & labyrinthine medina, it turned out to be a perfect home-from-home for the week we spent there. The 2 guys running it were extremely friendly & helpful - & even upgraded both our rooms for free (I'd said that I needed good daylight as I intended to paint). The breakfast was served on the roof terrace & always brought up at the time we'd requested - consisting of coffee, mint tea, 2 types of bread + cake, fresh butter, honey, jam & olives. Certainly sufficient to set one up for the day! And the roof terrace itself is a wonderfully relaxing place to just sit & chill, with views over the medina rooftops in every direction. There is no restaurant on the premises but there are lots of cafes & restaurants around the Blue Gate, which is just a 10 minute walk. The decor in the rooms and throughout the Riad were traditionally Morroccan & very colourful - with beautiful mosaiced floors & painted furniture. The beds were a little hard but that suited me anyway - and with quality bedlinen. The towels were changed daily & there's almost instant hot water (solar panels I believe) plus very effective air conditioning - which you certainly need there in July! There are a LOT of steps from the entrance (where the kitchen is also situated - where we were allowed to store our water/beer/food in the fridge) up to the sitting room and beyond to the bedrooms & roof terrace - so it wouldn't be suitable for those with mobility issues or very overweight!Their prices are extremely reasonable and it's very quiet - except for the nearby mosque, which emits prayers over a loudspeaker 5 times a day ..but only for a few minutes.I'd definitely recommend this Riad and would happily stay there again.

    Exceptional customer service.

We stayed here for couple of nights during our stay in Fes. They stay was really good, comfortable and beautiful. Breakfast at the rooftop was amazing with a view of the medina, it looked like a shot from the movies. The bathroom was little small and a bit stinky. Apart from that the stay was really good. Special shout-out to Salman who made our stay really comfortable, no request was too much for him, he was really kind and helpful and did everything to ensure our stay was excellent.

A Welcoming Oasis in the Heart of the Medina of Fes – Highly Recommended!

    rating14 Jul 2023

For a quintessential Moroccan experience and welcome, the beautiful Dar El Ouedghiri is an outstanding choice for anyone visiting Fes. Its central medina location cannot be beaten for accessing the must-see attractions of this fascinating city. Situated in a peaceful lane it feels very safe and secure. From the guesthouse, it is a short easy walk to Tala’a Sghira, one of the main lanes of the labyrinthine Fes el-Bali, which leads directly to Bab Bou Jeloud (‘The Blue Gate’).I stayed for almost a week and my bright airy single ensuite room was perfect in every way. Meticulously clean and well-maintained it had a supremely comfortable bed, a hot shower, excellent Wi-Fi and efficient air-conditioning. Other bigger and family rooms that I glimpsed also looked outstanding in their authentic décor. A rooftop terrace affords stunning views of this beguiling city. In common with most Dars the stairs between floors are quite narrow.Included breakfast, served between 9-11am, was a simple but tasty affair consisting of pastries, jam, honey, cheese, olives, fruit juice and coffee. I chose, however, to wake early and walk to the Blue Gate where a bowl of delicious b’sarra (a thick soup of broad beans) with a hunk of bread at café Broceliande costs just 7MAD.Last but not least I have to mention the ever-friendly and smiling Salman who looks after the guesthouse in the evenings and mornings. He is a kind, caring and helpful young man who is both meticulous and conscientious in his service and a credit to Dar El Al Ouedghiri. Thank you, Salman! All in all, this is an absolutely superb choice of guesthouse and one I would very highly recommend and would very happily return to. My stay was perfect and my only regret is that I could not stay longer! I hope that one day I might return. Inshallah.
