Good location, not so good hotel

    rating12 Jun 2026

Location was the best thing about this hotel. The room was small although we paid for a King Size Premium Room, the king size bed was two singles pushed together with 2 mattress topper that didn't fit, the pillow was stained, no pillow protectors on them. There was an awful sewage smell the first night which made it hard to sleep, it was sorted next day after I reported it. Bathroom was tiny with very low toilet and no room to move. Shower was powerful though and toiletries provided were good. Television had 2 channels we could watch and at one point it stopped working and we had to get the manager to see to it. No air in the room, although there was a door with a keyhole but no key, lack of fresh air caused disturbed sleep. Requested the key to open the door but was refused, still don't know why they couldn't let us open the door a touch ad there was no opening windows. Tge curtains were all raggy on the bottom hem and looked terrible, not 4 star accommodation The breakfast was okay if you didn't want anything hot as all cooked food was stone cold, even croissants and choc au pan which should be at least warm! The staff were mainly good at this hotel, especially Sophie on the reception who took note of our complaints and apologised when we checked out. I don't think this hotel was worth the money we paid and wouldn't recommend staying here. As I said location was great but that's the only highlight of staying here. We were 4 nights and quite frankly were glad to leave. Would not stay there again. Hotel Manager, Owner at Swissotel Amsterdam, responded to this review Dear Madam,Thank you for sharing your perspective with us.We're pleased you found our team helpful during your stay, particularly Sophie's attentive service at reception. Our Pürovel amenities and powerful showers are designed to enhance comfort, and we're glad these elements contributed positively to your experience. That said, we sincerely apologize that your experience fell short in several areas. We regret the challenges with room configuration and environmental controls, and have shared your comments about breakfast temperature with our culinary team. While our Premium Rooms feature Frette linens and ergonomic workspaces, we recognize we missed opportunities to deliver complete comfort during your visit. Finally, we appreciate your recognition of our central Dam Square location which connects guests to Amsterdam's vibrant heart. This prime positioning remains one of our most valued features for travelers seeking cultural immersion. We hope we can provide you with an improved stay in the future. Kind regards,Wencke BolsiusGeneral Manager

Center of the city, warm hospitality, quiet

Centralized location, easy walk from the train station. Junior suite was spacious and had the most comfortable bed, jacuzzi, motorized shades, Bluetooth speakers, and sound proofing. Hospitality is exceptional with Steven and others who spoke English and gave us great tips. Will definitely stay again! Rooms very clean and tidy. Location just down the road from the train station. Shopping all around us. Staff were amazing best value for money. No noise double glazing. Meals nice restaurant closed on Mondays only breakfast. Hotel Manager, Owner at Swissotel Amsterdam, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for sharing your observations from your time with us.We are thrilled to know your stay at Swissôtel Amsterdam was so enjoyable. We’re delighted you found your room comfortable and appreciated the peaceful environment. Central but that’s all

    rating31 May 2026

Front of house are really lovely and friendly and the hotel is perfectly located in Damn Square however that’s all this hotel has going for it. On check in we were give our room on the 3rd to open the door and find a pigeon greeting us. We then went back down to reception who found it hilarious and then checked us into another room which was quite possibly the smallest room I’ve ever stayed in. It was so dark, the cleaners kept leaving the light on. Probably wouldn’t stay here again due to the fact we didn’t even get any apologise for the pigeon or a complimentary upgrade. Hotel Manager, Owner at Swissotel Amsterdam, responded to this review Dear Henly,Thank you for sharing this review of your time at our hotel. We are delighted to hear our team made a welcoming impression and that our central position near Dam Square allowed you to explore Amsterdam with ease.We sincerely regret that aspects of your accommodation fell short of your expectations. While our rooms vary in size and layout to cater to different preferences, we understand the importance of clear communication regarding room features. Please know we have shared your feedback with our housekeeping and front office teams to improve transparency during check-in.Our prime location remains one of our strongest assets, placing guests steps from cultural landmarks and transport links. Should your travels bring you back, we would gladly assist in selecting a room category aligned with your spatial needs. We hope to welcome you back on future occasions.Best wishes,Wencke BolsiusGeneral Manager

    Hotel in the centre.

Nice hotel in Amsterdam. Really grateful for Lovisa running and restaurant advice. Close to the central station. Slight downside is the location means it’s not quiet at any point! Hotel Manager, Owner at Swissotel Amsterdam, responded to this review Dear Stuart,Thank for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted you found our hotel enjoyable and appreciated Lovisa’s recommendations for exploring Amsterdam. Our team takes pride in offering tailored advice to help guests make the most of their stay. That said, we regret the lively atmosphere around Dam Square affected your rest. While many guests value our central setting, we understand the energy of the area can be overwhelming. For future visits, we recommend requesting a courtyard-facing room with triple-glazed windows for added tranquility. We’re thrilled our proximity to Central Station made your travels convenient. Being steps from cultural landmarks and transport links is a benefit we’re always proud to highlight. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Best wishes,Wencke BolsiusGeneral Manager
