  My stay in a single pod was magical. Ignore the spoilsports.

  I must say, I grinned the entire time. I'd had a tough week and my little temporary home on the hill cheered me right up. The staff were polite and helpful. The room was pristine. The pod was simple and compact, but in a very good way - great if you're travelling alone and need a break from the world. It has all you need and nothing you don't. The location is great - right next to food outlets, a YMCA gym etc and 5 minutes from multiple main centres along with their gorgeous beaches. It was just what I needed. Although by a main road and sports field it was somehow still quiet and had a calm, comforting atmosphere. The room smelled fresh and generally amazing. The bed was soft and comfy. Sitting on porch was lovely. 10/10. I will stay again for sure. I've done a lot of travelling and therefore stayed in accommodation on both ends of the price spectrum in multiple countries, but Poenamo Hotel still definitely makes my top 10 list.

  Not the most pleasant experience. The room was dirty, there were weird brown/yellow marks on the pillows and the upkeep of the room was tired. The initial pictures on the pages show new rooms, not these ones. There was a big party in the communal area making it unwelcoming to spend time in the communal space, had we of known this we would have reconsidered being there. This was supposed to be a little staycation night for new years but we ended up driving home instead.

  Worst place we have ever stayed

  The pictures on their website are 100% deceiving. This was the worst experience we have ever had in 30 yrs of traveling. The room was nasty, carpet looks like it had never been cleaned, dirt all over (we left our shoes on). The walls were dirty and grafiti in a couple of spots that you couldn't miss seeing, and a smelly faucet. The door frames looked like they had been kicked in. Curtin's half hanging. The locks wouldn't work because of the door frames. Security lights with broken bulbs. I would not recommend this hotel to others, and I wouldn't stay there again if it was the last place before being homeless. Here is a more detailed breakdown of my experience: Amenities: The room had basic amenities, such as a bed (bed basically on the floor, sheets stained), TV, and a bathroom (shower with orange water grim built up), dried pee around toilet floor. The pool had grim in the shallow ande deep end. Their listing stated a continental breakfast - lie - nothing to be found. The restaurants either opened later in the evening (bedtime or never opened). Staff: The staff at the hotel were not friendly and nor helpful. Overall: Overall, I had a way below-average experience at the Poenamo Hotel Auckland. We asked for a refund or even a partial - we were denied with a nasty response. Don't make our mistake.

  To say I was pissed off with the hotel a day before check in was an understatement when it was pay at property then was charged a surcharge then they wanted a bond after screwing up a charge on my card. Once checked in the rooms where unhygienic, moldy, with hair in the shower, including a hole that was patched up with tape and it looked like it never had been cleaned. Pool looks nothing like the picture but then again nothing does. It needs a complete overhaul and the staff need to learn a thing or too about customer service and how to operated and work in a hotel. There is loose wires and plug sockets hanging off walls. People smoking in the bedrooms making the hallways stink. I'm actually appalled for the amount you pay foe this place what you actually get. It needs to be inspected by health and safety and shut down. It's dangerous and unnhealthy. Pub is okay but bloody loud on a friday and sat night if your staying with kids it's a nightmare. 100% wouldn't recommend this place. I asked for a refund from at least the surcharge snd the lady just just smirked like she thought it was funny. Not impressed.

  Stayed just 2 nights. Room on upper floor right hand side of main building - aircon units right outside room which had loud banging occuring all throughout the night. Aircon unit was also just very loud making it difficult to sleep. Overall for price- great location and clean and tidy also good wifi, kitchen and spa use. However the lack of sleep from final nights stay alongwith the back door on balcony not locking and having gaps from other user’s balcony’s is not very safe. Would probably try another location for future as when all said and done bit too expensive for quality of sleep and safety.
