    Lovely stay

We spent 5 days in faro, we stayed at Sao Filipe guest house, it was very clean, the staff were extremely friendly, telling us about the best places to visit, the receptionist even gave us a local glass of port on our arrival!

    Avoid. Ruined Our Holiday.

    rating08 Sept 2020

When we arrived at around 01:00 on Tuesday we were told to pay the next day. On Wednesday we went to the front desk to pay our room and were told no card payments. I explained that when we booked it did not say this but the lady who served us insisted it did so I showed her our booking confirmation on Booking.com but she would not believe me. In addition she said we were told that they only accepted cash when we checked in but we weren’t. Maybe this establishment does have a no card policy but it was not communicated to us at any point until we tried to pay. They should make this more clear, rather than probably hiding it in some small print. I had to go to a cash point in the train station and withdraw the money at an extortionate rate. I was originally going to give this establishment 2/5 but this fiasco checking out had firmly made this the worst hotel we have stayed in.Bella who was on reception when I tried to pay was very unhelpful, condescending and rude. When I told her that I only had card she abruptly said “go to the train station then there is a cash point there” and did not have any sympathy or try to remedy the situation. Later after I had withdrawn the cash to pay I notified her about our complaints about the room so it wasn’t a surprise when this review appeared. She responded “that’s your opinion” when we spoke about the outdated and damaged room and the hairs in the bathroom. I have attached a photo. When we arrived at 01:00 in the morning I found myself cleaning out the bath as I felt dirty stepping into it, not something you expect to be doing on your holiday. You have to bell to gain entrance to the property every time, even when you have checked-in. I thought they would give us another key for the door as sometimes you are made to wait on stairs for it to open. We found the bed unbearably hard so we had to use the thick blankets in the cupboard to be used as some form of protection against the springs that made sleeping near impossible. I have attached a photo. Our room in general was small and in a poor state with chipped paint and scratches. When we arrived we were surprised to find a tiny bed, not much bigger than a single, for the two of us, even though we booked the double room advertised. We were cramped and my girlfriend (5’6”) hung off the bed, I’m 6”0’ so imagine the experience I had. On our second morning we awoke to find our door partially open even though we had the occupied sign on the door and we locked it the night before. Although I can’t prove this it was very unsettling to think that a maid had ignored the sign on the door and entered anyway while we were sleeping. I assume they are the only people with keys. If you don’t mind having your privacy invaded then this is the hotel for you. We found the hotel to be very loud, the street noise did not bother us that much as that’s to be expected but the location of our room next to the main entrance and the thin walls forced us hear every time the door opened and every person that walked down the corridor. We would not stay here again and would advise anyone else from doing the same as there are other establishments in the area that offer far better quality and service, not to mention rude staff who couldn’t care about their customers.

Small guest house, with so many stairs at the entrance.Small rooms with very small bathroom, and noisy. The only good thing , it's close to the center, and that's okPeople at the reception definitely not nice, and that was the worse.Never coming back.

PRETTY BASIC, GOING ON SPARTAN - BUT ADEQUATE FOR AN OVERNIGHT

    rating16 Oct 2019

Best of all, it's fairly cheap, though you pretty much get what you pay for: basic accommodation, somewhat cramped, very noisy at night, and accessible only via a steep staircase to the first floor. It certainly wasn't dire, but I doubt if we'll return

Decent budget option but a bit cramped

    rating12 Jul 2019

I liked Guest House São Filipe in Fargo. It's a cheap-and-cheerful option for those looking for a fine budget option. I was especially impressed by how clean the room was for a hotel in this price range. But the room was really, really small. But if you're okay with that, the São Filipe isn't bad.
