Location

This hotel lies at the heart of Faro, some 50 m from the marina and the historical part of the city. There are scores of shops, restaurants and bars, as well as a connection to the public transport network in the surrounding area. The railway station is approximately 800 m away, and it is 9 km to the nearest beach and 7 km to the airport.

Facility

The hotel has junior suites, 2 suites, 90 single rooms and 90 double rooms, which are located on 4 storeys and are reachable by lift. Guests are warmly welcomed by multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the 24-hour reception desk in the lobby. Check-in/check-out service is available round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service, cash machine and drinks machine. Wireless internet access (for a fee) allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. There are also a number of shops that make for great strolling and browsing. Additional facilities include a TV room. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (for a fee) or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a 24-hour security service, a babysitting service, a childcare service, a car hire service, medical assistance, a transfer service, room service (for a fee), an alarm call service, a laundry service, a coin-operated laundry and a hotel shuttle bus. Active guests who wish to explore the surrounding area by bike will appreciate the bicycle hire service (for a fee). Bicycle storage is also available. A business centre with fax machine and projector is available. 2 conference rooms are available for lectures, presentations and meetings.

Rooms

Rooms are equipped with air conditioning and individually adjustable heating. Guests can enjoy the view of the city from a balcony or terrace. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed, a queen-size bed or a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Guests will also find a tea/coffee station included among the standard features. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, an alarm clock and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. A turndown service provides guests with additional comfort in the evening hours. A hairdryer and a telephone are provided in the bathrooms, which include a shower and a bathtub. Cosmetic products and a selection of towels provide additional comfort in the bathrooms. Wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms are also available. The hotel has family rooms and non-smoking rooms.

Sport

The pleasantly heated water of the outdoor pool area guarantees comfortable swimming. Comfortable sun loungers are available on the terrace. The pool bar serves a selection of refreshing drinks. The hotel offers an extensive outdoor sports programme, including cycling/mountain biking, tennis, golf, fishing and horse riding. With water skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, sailing, catamaraning, snorkelling and diving available, fans of water sports will have plenty to choose from. The fitness rooms are perfect for a comprehensive workout. Various wellness options are available at the hotel, including a spa, a sauna, a steam bath, a hammam and massage treatments. Activity coordinators organise an entertainment programme for adults and children.

Meals

Dining facilities include a breakfast room, a café and a bar. A number of specialities await guests in the air-conditioned, non-smoking restaurant. Catering options include bed and breakfast, half board and full board. A generous breakfast buffet guarantees a great start to the day. Lunch is served as a set menu, and guests can choose between à la carte and a set menu for dinner. Diet meals, gluten-free meals, vegetarian dishes and children's meals can be prepared on request. In addition, special catering options and snacks are available.

    Great rooftop views and location

    Overall, we had a good stay at Occidental Faro. The biggest highlight by far was the rooftop. The views from the rooftop bar and breakfast area were stunning, and honestly, I would stay here again just for the rooftop views and the location.The location was very convenient and easy to get around from. Parking was also easy to use, which we appreciated, but the spaces were very tight. The room itself was small, and while we technically had a balcony, it might as well not have had one because the view was blocked by roofs right in front of us.The sauna and steam room were a great addition and something we really enjoyed, especially since it was too cold to swim while we were there. The staff were friendly, but nothing really stood out as exceptional.Overall, there were a few things that could have been better, but the rooftop views, breakfast, and location made it worth it. I would stay here again for those reasons.     I arrived early in the morning and had a few hours before my business meeting with a client started. After dropping off my luggage, I wanted to sit somewhere and do some work. At the reception, I was told that I could use the seating area on the 4th floor.However, when I got there, the staff member upstairs told me I was not allowed to sit there because breakfast service was still ongoing — despite the fact that there were many empty seats available. What disappointed me most was the very rude and unfriendly way this was communicated to me. As a business traveler, I expect a more welcoming and professional attitude, especially when simply trying to quietly work for a short period of time. This experience left a very negative first impression.There was also a serious issue with the bathroom. When taking a shower, the water flowed into the rest of the bathroom instead of draining properly into the drain. This caused the entire bathroom floor to flood, and I had to use all of the bath towels just to dry it. I reported this to reception after the very first shower, but nothing was done. I mentioned it two more times during my stay, and after the third complaint the only “solution” was that someone placed a rolled-up towel on the floor. That is simply not acceptable for a hotel of this standard.Another disappointing point was the wellness area. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was because of the wellness facilities, including the steam room. However, when I asked to use it, I was told there was a technical problem and that it was not working. This was very disappointing, especially since these facilities are actively promoted as part of the hotel experience.Overall, the lack of professionalism, poor handling of complaints, and the technical problems made this stay far below expectations.     Loved everything about this hotel. It was very clean, welcoming and efficiently run. The staff were aways helpful, courteous and friendly. The room was bright, clean and spacious (superior double).The breakfasts were amazing. The roof terrace bar and restaurant had the most fantastic views and were such relaxing spaces. I would definitely stay again!
