  One big disappointment

  We stayed here for 6 days from 29th of Sept. On the 1st of Oct the nearest beach remover all the sunbeds and umbrellas. And also the hotel/ apartments snackbar closes. This is the only one available so no coffee/ drinks or snacks available during the day. The hotel and especially the reception staff was very friendly. The appartement overlooked the parking lot, the only reason we didn't ask for a change was because it gives you afternoon sun on the balcony. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen inventory was very basic. No wine glasses or small tumblers. No scissors, not even a spatula for the frying pan. It does have a good size fridge freezer and a microwave but no oven either and no coffee machine. Luckily we always bring our own. Will definitely not recommend and definitely not return.Food in hotel restaurant was bad. Don't order the tuna. I couldn't eat it it tasted so bad. After speaking to other guests with the same experience it's clear this is not a one off occurance.

  Spacious and comfortable apartments

  We love the Praia da Lota Apartments. They are clean, spacious, well-maintained and well equipped. The self-catering facilities are excellent. The kitchen is very well equipped and the balcony comes complete with a clothes airer. We had a dish-washer (which we didn't use) and a micro-wave and more cutlery and crockery than we could use.The shower was excellent - great water pressure, and the beds were firm but very comfortable.The resort itself is great and having the facilities of the hotel, including Restaurant Oasis is helpful. There is a choice of two pool areas and they have recently extended the path at the back of the property to join the boardwalk which makes access to the beach much easier. The pools are very well maintained on a daily basis.It is just a few minutes walk to the beach. Our favourite spot was the serviced area on Praia da Lota with the large white shades. Great service - plenty of life-guards etc.One can reach the village of Manta Rota via the boardwalk in an easy 15 minute walk, or go via the road. There is a Farmacia, plenty of ATM's and a very good supermarket in the village as well as an excellent daily market and a tourist office. Bicycles can be hired at reception. Reception and bar-staff are always very helpful. Reception will arange a taxi if needed. Jose in the bar is a friendly chap and has very good English - he is a great man for a bit of local advice. There was a girl in bar some night who was equally helpful.From our first-floor room we had a view of the sea. All in all we couldn't fault Praia da Lota Resort.   Very pleasant, short walk to beautiful beach and to small town. Buffet breakfast was excellent but too expensive, no coffee machine in the apartments, why not? Apartment great value in winter but not in summer perhaps.   Good winter long stay

  We have been very pleased with these apartments. We have a ground floor apartment which doesn't have a scenic view, but that is compensated by the fact that it gets the maximum amount of the winter sun and we can keep an eye on our car.The apartment is well appointed with an adequate quantity of cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery. There is television with two English channels. The cleaning is done regularly and bed linen and towels changed often. The apartment is more than adequately heated.You also get use of the hotel facilities, the pool, in use, although not heated, wifi in the hotels public rooms, cycle hire, breakfast and dinner available and access to the beach. The staff speak English and are very helpful.Your own transport is an advantage, because the resort is not close to public transport.I would recommend.

  Lovely outside, tired inside

  We booked a month's stay requesting ground floor after surgery. We got second floor facing the parking lot. We asked for a move, which happened after our first week but it was still many steps both from the parking lot and the patio. Furniture was Ikea style but dated. Four chairs and a table and a pull out daybed as a couch. No armchairs - one side table- lightbulbs missing from overhead lights, even from the light at the front of the hotel announcing the name. We had to purchase coat hangers, pot scrubbers, kleenex for rooms. Lamp shades in bedroom and curtains in kitchen stained. TV was from the 80"s with only 3 working channels - one which broke up consistently - WiFi available only in reception area or by the pool. Beds were made regularly and towels replaced but little cleaning was done - If you dropped a piece of clothing it came up very dusty. White socks were black by the end of the day if you took off your shoes. Kitchen supplies were sketchy - obviously no inventory was every taken - no oven, no teaspoons or wineglasses, nothing was a full set or matched. Restaurant closed after breakfast and reopened at 6:30. The Snack Bar by the pool was closed for the season. Staff were friendly and very helpful but we got tired of asking for the basics everyday.
