    Not a 5* hotel!

    rating27 Aug 2025

Disappointment! When you book a 5* hotel you’d expect a high level of service. This hotel is quite old, feeling like going back a century. The positive points: location (very close to the center), impressive hall / reception (old museum style), and huge rooms.Apart from that most other aspects are not at 5* level – with great benevolence I could concede 4*. There is a lack of “personal touch” – rooms have no cattle for tea/coffee, there is no complimentary water (quite common in most 4* hotels), the cafeteria/ bar is quite old (depressing) and expensive (there are many more attractive and cheaper places around), the swimming pool is quite small and also with the old looks. Low speed internet and few options on TV channels.Breakfast is very expensive. Fortunately, there are plenty of nice cafes nearby for less than half the price. Even Liam, a sophisticated brunch place is cheaper (and very nice). The hotel has parking (one of the reasons I chose it), but it is expensive.Considering the high price of the rooms I would have expected something much better. I have stayed in many Eurostars hotels and until now had a good impression of the chain. But this experience with Araguaney will make me much more careful when considering a Eurostars hotel. It is a shame that the chain sells this hotel as a 5*, creating expectations that cannot be fulfilled.

This is not a 5 star hotel

    rating02 Aug 2025

If this is a 5 star hotel I would really hate to see the 3 & 4 star hotels in the area. We asked if the hotel could provide us with a room with a bath months begore our stay, they said yes and confirmed we had a room with bath guaranteed so I booked the hotel. We need a bath for medical reasons. Upon arrival we found it hard to find the hotel as it is not close to the main town and in a rather run down part of town. Between cheap plastic shops there it is, steps with red carpet. Inside it does not look like a hotel rather more apartment complex. The 3 men at reception weren't too friendly but one did try to give us some information about the locality. We were told our rucksacks where delivered but we were left to carry them up to our 5th floor room when it was evident we were bone weary after walking the camino. Room looked fine, unpacked some stuff only to find no bath. Called reception and informed them and half an hour later they got back saying they will move us and bell boy on the way. Packed up and dragged our rucksacks up another floor to a new room not as nice and get this, NO BATH. I rang back down to reception and was told to wait that they will get back to me. After half an hour we were too tired to keep repeating this sequence so I called down and said we'll just stick with the first room, I was told good because we don't have a room with a bath. Now if I had known this I would never have booked this hotel. I even messaged 2 days prior making sure the request was received to which I got a reply saying yes we have you in a room with bath and pool View. The pool is a 6 foot deep square. Not suitable for kids or people who can't swim. It is also surrounded by sky scraper local apartments with residents smoking and drinking looking down. Also no water privided, a 5 star hotel that doesn't provide water is just unheard of.They have a smart tv but everything I tried to access my netflix or disney it wouldn't allow me. When I quiered this with an employee he told me oh yes those tvs don't work. Stars need to be revoked here. Just because the hotel may have been awarded 5 stars in the 1940's doesn't mean it is still worthy of those stars today. I never once even got an apology

Nice location, but starting to show its age

    rating18 Jun 2025

This hotel is well located close to the pedestrian zone in Santiago de Compostela (5-8 min). The staff were friendly and helped us with a few issues. For example, the heat was turned off in the hotel, but it was cold out and the staff provided us a much-needed space heater. It’s quite a big place with a small gym and a pool (we did not use either). The standard room was a good size, but the room and bathroom with a walk-in shower were showing signs of age. Despite the pleasant staff and good location, we would look at other options the next time we are in town.

    Central location with some noise

    rating21 Feb 2025

Older style 5 star hotel but no tea maker in room, although they gave us a kettle when we asked. They immediately replaced a light bulb once I had reported it to them. Central location was good. The 6a airport bus drops nearby and is just 1E fare. We got off at the 'centre' rather than the bus station. We checked in 3 hours early with no problems. Currently (Feb 2025) floor 2 is having some building work so there is intermittent noise in the daytime. Also, our 4th floor room overlooked the main street and at 4am during 2 of our 4 nights we were awoken by people leaving a nightclub opposite. We could hear people chatting in other rooms at one point so soundproofing is not too good. Breakfast is good quality with a small selection of gluten free cakes and bread. Apart from cereals and eggs there was nothing available for vegetarians. Breakfast period from 7-11am daily in pleasant ground floor coffee shop which is open to the public after breakfast. Housekeeping was good. Gym available. Outdoor pool was closed. Massage payable on site.

    Fantastic stay in Santiago

    rating26 Oct 2024

Our final night on the Camino Portuguese was spent at the Hotel Eurostar Aruguaney in Santiago de Compostela. The hotel is one block off the Camino on the way to the Cathedral and made it a nice option to stop in advance of our visit to the Pilgrim’s Office and attend the Pilgrim’s Mass. We booked our lodging through Santiago Ways and requested an upgrade for our final night for our stay in Santiago. It was a good choice as the hotel is elegant, well ran, and the rooms spacious. We cleaned up from our long and final segment on the Camino, dressed for the Mass, and made the short final walk to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. We visited the Pilgrim’s Office just before they closed at 7 pm and found the lines short, process efficient to have our Pilgrim’s Passport stamped, and receive our certificate of completion of the Camino. We then made it into the Cathedral just in time to get seats for the Mass. The Mass was beautiful and inspirational. After we strolled back to the hotel and enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the hotel’s restaurant with excellent service and delicious Galician options on the menu. The next morning, we enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy the hotel, not having to rush out the door as we had the previous mornings on the Camino. Our departure from the city was by train and the station was a short 10 minute walk mostly downhill to the train station. Warning - the station is under construction and very difficult to navigate. The approach gives one the sense to enter the promenade to the tracks. Instead with the construction and the crowd led us to the bus transfer areas, not the train station. To find that we had to backtrack and take a not well marked elevator to the lower level where trains intersect the station. In the end because we added a few minutes to our plan we made it but barely.
