A 'mixed bag' but would go again

The Hotel is about 10 minutes walk directly inland from the Train Station and is situated in a very nice Square with lots of Cafes close by. The Staff in Reception and the Bar/Cafe were superb and made us feel very welcome and were extremely helpful. The room was a good size and v clean but a little on the dated side. We were given a room on the second floor - as requested.Downsides - the food in the Restaurant as without doubt the worst I've experienced in literally dozens of Hotels in Spain. Breakfast was generally ok but the evening food was really very limited in choice and I had two pieces of fish and a paella that were both overcooked. The Hotel Cafe and Bar is, by contrast, a definite bonus. Very reasonable prices, freshly made food and superb service. My advice is not to ignore this Hotel if it comes up as a good priced option but go BB and eat out in the evenings at one of the many local eateries and have a light lunch at he Hotel Cafe.

Decent hotel on a budget. Great location, helpful staff.

Hotel was fully booked when we arrived! However, they put us into one of their sister hotels for the first night. Went back to the Checkin MontPalau next morning and got into our proper room. This hotel was clean and kept well enough. As compensation for MontPalau being fully booked first night, we got our board status upped to full. Were happy with this, as it saved a fair amount of money eating out at lunchtime. The hotel reception were very apologetic, and seemed genuinely so.Hotel is ideally located at the town square, where there is entertainment and a playpark for the kids. Right at the top of the main shopping street too, which leads to the beach (5 minute walk).Pool at the hotel is on the roof, and is relatively small for a hotel pool. However it was rarely full. We could always also get a lounger. Bar on the roof is cheap enough too.Overall happy with the MontPalau hotel, and their staff.Food in MontPalau was hit and miss, and not really catering for children. Run out of plates often, and were slow to clear up used tables at times.Lunch we got as compensation was in Checkin Pineda, and was much much better than the breakfast and dinner at MontPalau. Much better organised, and much better food quality wise. Also better catered for kids. Overall ratings - staff 8/10, food 5/10, facilities 7/10, pool 6/10, location 9/10.We would stay here again, but possibly be more leaning towards the Checkin Pineda which seemed to be a better hotel overall (probably their main one).

    Ok hotel

    rating31 Jul 2018

I stayed at this hotel at the end of June for 5nights. The food was ok, not great but you could always find something to eat. The rooms need updating as they are very old fashioned and a little dull, though the room was very clean. Only a short walk to the beach and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from you fancy eating out, although the hotel has a really lovely café attached which I highly recommend. The staff at the hotel were very friendly, but in have to be honest I would not stay at this hotel again and I would not visit Pineda dear mar as I didn't really enjoy it.
