Decent hotel with odd restaurant hours

Decent room, a little dated and worn. Good breakfast. Restaurant not open every day and not super convenient to many restaurants.

    Good solid hotel experience

Clean, comfortable, easy walking distance to the middle of town. The bathtub was especially appreciated! We didn't try the restaurant but did have breakfast one day before heading out - it's about what you expect for a hotel breakfast and it did the job. I would have liked a kettle in the room (cue fussy Brit traveler I guess) but the hotels in Spain don't seem to do that. At least this one did have coffee available in the lobby to take and go! Staff were helpful about answering questions, calling taxis and such.

Not a good hotel. Breakfast is a ripoff

    rating13 Jun 2024

Stayed 1 night in June on our way from Algarve to Marbella since we wanted to swing by Cadiz. Good: Location is ok. Nice boardwalk by the water, el Corte Ingles and Hipocore supermarket close by. Parking is free but confusing to get to. Was upgraded to a suite with a view of the Rock of GibraltarBad: The room and hallways smelled of old smoke. Must have allowed smoking before. The breakfast is 15.40 euros and was a total rip off. Surprised since previous AC Hotel stays in Barcelona Forun and Valencia had an amazing breakfast.Info: You must get hotel key to enter parking garage. So you have to check in. Unfortunately it's hard to find a place to stop.

    Worst Marriott Group Hotel

    rating31 Mar 2023

After a wonderful stay at the AC Hotel in Murcia, I was looking forward to my stay at AC Algeciras. Unfortunately, the stay turned into the worst stay I've ever had at a Marriott group property.First, the arrival and parking experience was frustrating and dangerous. Eventhough the hotel is not in a densely built area, it does not have any sort of a driveway for unloading luggage. The hotel door is literally on a busy roundabout. What's worse, no thought at all was given to what guests should do to check-in safely. I had to dangerously park on a busy street and run in to get instructions for the parking garage. I was rudely told I'd have to wait in a long checkin line to get an answer. I of course couldn't do that with my card parked on a busy road. Instead, I had drive for many blocks to find a safe parking space. The hotel staff later insisted that the 2 public parking spaces on a side road next to the hotel can be used for check-in. Unfortunately, the many times I've walked by these spots, they were full, even when there was noone in the lobby, so that's obviously not a solution. After finally trudging several blocks back to the hotel and checking in, I walked all the way back to the car and then drove it to the parking lot. About an hour had transpired since I first arrived at the hotel. But the nightmare only started. The hotel provided a slip of paper with instructions, but NO INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO EXIT THE GARAGE. Carrying all my luggage, I walked all over the large parking garage to find a way out. There were no signs. I took the elevators and stairways, which only led to various apartment lobbies with no way out. Finally, in desperation, I carefully avoided the cars and walked out on the car road exit, being thankful not to be crushed by the metal gate.Shockingly, it turns out that the car exit IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF THE GARAGE! Sufficed to say that this is extremely dangerous and a lawsuit waiting to happen. But the hotel staff didn't care. The room itself was furnished at 1-2 star hotel standard, with cheap furnishings that were scuffed and desperately in need of renovation. The bed had thin blankets (that look like mattresses covers). The bathroom had paper thin threadbare towels and the shower water fluctuated from scalding to freezing (another lawsuit waiting to happen).Eventhough this is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel, there were no visible no-smoking signs and no disclosed penalties for smoking. Predictably, that meant that guests were smoking and the smoke was drifting into my room. When I called to complain, the solution was to place a small filter outside of my room in the corridor. It didn't help.I only had the breakfast the first morning, as it was not very good. A small selection of issues:- dirty cups- dirty placemats- limited selection - no hot eggs of any kind- half of the limited items were out - had to proactively ask the staff to refill (but they were very fast to ask for room number!)- price is about 20% higher than other AC in Spain (which was infinitely better)- the F&B manager was more interested at standing around and glaring at guests than actually doing any workAnd finally to add a cherry on this horrible stay, the checkout was the worst I've ever experienxed. The woman at the desk (Gema) tried to overcharge me and then basically called me stupid when I explained to her that the math was not done correctly. And then she gave me a garage exit card that didn't work, so I had to trudge back from the garage to the hotel to get replacement. In conclusion, this hotel should either (a) not be Marriott-branded as it sullies the Marriott brand name or (b) shut down for full renovation and comprehensive employee re-training.
