    On balance worth a 5

    rating12 May 2026

After a week at the hotel, I was not sure whether to give a 4 or a 5, but on the balance of enjoyment, went for a 5. Our welcome at reception was perfunctory rather than informative and no welcoming glass of sherry, as might have been anticipated. We had a very large comfortable room with a very large bed and a seating area. We went for half board as it was very reasonably priced with Jet2 - about £40 each for the week, I think - and we thought that we might eat in the hotel perhaps a couple of times, particularly as some of the earlier reviews said that it was a very limited and repetitive menu for Jet2 customers. As it was, we were able to choose from an extensive menu, with just a few premium items excluded. The food was very good, with the fried anchovies being our favourite starter and octopus as a main. There was an extensive wine list with prices starting at under ten euros a bottle. The waiting staff were all very pleasant and efficient, although service on the Saturday evening was a bit chaotic as the hotel was hosting four first communion celebrations. Breakfast was a bit disappointing with neither the cooked nor the cold offering looking very appetising. On the second day, there was a menu for breakfast items that could be ordered but it disappeared thereafter. Pastries were good though. We warmed to the hotel as the week went on and would be happy to stay again. Joaquim Gratovil, Dueño at ALEGRIA Bodega Real, responded to this review hank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We are delighted to know that, overall, you had an enjoyable stay and that you appreciated the comfort of the room, the quality of the food, and the attention from our restaurant team. We’re especially pleased that you enjoyed dishes like the fried anchovies and octopus. We also truly appreciate your constructive comments regarding reception, breakfast, and the busy service during the communion celebrations. Feedback like yours helps us continue improving every aspect of the guest experience. It means a lot to hear that you warmed to the hotel as the week went on and that you would happily stay with us again. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future!

    Traditional hotel in Sherry Bodega

    rating05 May 2026

Spent a week at Bodega Real. Our room was on the small side but the access to the wonderful terrace overlooking the courtyard made up for it. The rooms on floor 1 have this. Lovely small rooftop pool with great views. Hotel is a very traditional style but thats part of its charm. We didn't have breakfast included but you could have buffet breakfast for €12pp or the coffee and tostada option was only €4.90 pp in the lovely restaurant. Very close to train station for access to Seville, Jerez and Cadiz. Short walk to the many bars, restaurants and shops of Puerto Santa Maria. A great option if you want a relaxing break in a typically Spanish town. Superb traditional hotel but has a few issues.

    rating26 Sept 2025

Lovely traditional Spanish style hotel at a reasonable price.Staff very good.Room clean, well appointed and good air con as very hot when we were there.Pool on the roof more of a plunge pool not for swimming but cool. Could have done with more shade up there.Breakfast choice very good.Evening meal very good to start with. Quality food and very reasonably priced drinks. However, as the week went on certain items were not available. 7 items missing one evening. Our last night even the Mediterranean salad was off! Had had this previously and it was lovely. The staff were way overstretched when functions were on. It seemed to us that any function took priority of service away from residents. We had three functions while we were there which we were told was unusual. The last one was a wedding in the central courtyard in the evening with very loud music. There was nowhere to escape to. In our opinion the hotel is not big enough to have functions and residents at the same time unless the residents don't mind noise and a lesser service. We loved the hotel. It was everything we expected. The only two issues were lack of items on the menu and noise and reduced service and facilities due to functions.

Great hotel but avoid half board

    rating20 Sept 2025

Just returned from a weeks holiday. The hotel is a former Sherry Bodega and as an old building has it quirks which you may not like if you are into modern hotels, but to me added to its charm. The rooms are set around a central courtyard and rooms look down onto it. The rooms are large with a comfortable bed and sofa to relax on. Toiletries are provided.Plenty of opening windows as well as aircon. The staff are friendly and generally efficient.Preventing this being five stars is the menu. We were there on a half board basis with Jet2 holidays and as such the menu was restricted unless you wanted to pay a supplement. Each night at least a third of the menu was unavailable, after our rep raised this issue it was supposed to have improved but didn't. I found out it was not because of a lack of ingredients, just the kitchen could not be bothered.
