    Average hotel

    rating27 May 2026

Good location, José at the bar was very friendly and hardworking. Breakfast was nice, lots of options. Pool food is average. The room is clean, bed sheets only changed once while we were there for a week. Bathroom towels had stains so had to ask for it to be changed, showers could be updated and also one night there was no hot water. Hotel pool toilets at the top pool were dirty two of the days we were there. The top pool is also just a shallow walk pool, there are no major signs around to say this, although it says 0.8 on the side of the pool if you don’t take notice, it could lead to an injury. There was a female staff member at reception that was very helpful and friendly, but the male staff members were slightly rude, one in particular when we were returning the hotel towel to get the €10 back we did not have the ticket they gave us as we were not informed we had to keep it. Made a deal over this and only for the female receptionist stepped in and just gave it back he would’ve been arguing over the €10. You have to book a room to get changed and showered (so bare this in mind if you have a late flight as we don’t know this and thought they would allow us to get changed like many other hotels do) Noise levels can vary, one or two nights it was noisy (3am-4am) when others were coming back (doors banging and loud talking- can be expected sometimes on holidays but just to note if you are a light sleeper). The location is right on the Marina which is a plus. For an older crowd ( not many young people, couples). I probably wouldn’t return again.

    Nice hotel for 50+

    rating24 May 2026

Nice hotel, beds are really comfy and the hotel is really nice. Breakfast had such a selection. It was lovely. Fridge with two bottles of water, ours wasn't refilled the next day. But you can buy your own drinks and put them in the fridge. Aimed at 50+ age group which is nice and even better no kids. Area is a little noisy at night. Taxi rank just down from the hotel.Slippers were welcome as I hate walking on floors. Didn't see entertainment but heard it. Maybe lacks a little atmosphere and need more people serving at bar. Worst part was the main pool which is small & in serious need of repair. It's mouldy and missing tiles everywhere. Would return

Smart Hotel. Great location..Food could be better. No kids yippee!!

    rating23 May 2026

Smart hotel. Great location but let down by limited food choices. I chose this hotel because of its location and opted for a full sea view. I was not disappointed. Its right behind the amazing Benalmadena Marina .. just minutes walk away. I found the hotel spotless and very smart. The fact it was adult only was great and because of its generally higher cost the guests , like me, tended to be older rather than stag and hen parties . So no loud partying and quiet relaxing around the pool with no forced daytime activities . A quiet hotel to relax in. The thing that let it down and my only criticism was the limited choice of food and much of it repetitive. Buffet style . For breakfast basically same every day. Hot food ..Spanish bacon and sausages. Eggs ..etc. cold meats and cheese. Fruit yoghurt etc. Breads and pastries All edible but boring . In Benidorm a similar hotel I stayed had much wider variety of everything ie more cheese and meat choices..more pastries etc etc. Plus free help yourself Cava. They did however have 4 coffees machine dispensers which was a good number. Evening meal . Each day the hot food was usually a choice of 2 different fish dishes, a chicken dish and often a pork dish. They did have a fresh cooking station, but this wasn't very adventurous...ie no steak or beef offered any day. Limited to a stir fry one day and pasta another.. the cold meats and cheese selection same as breakfast. They did have salads and other prepared starters that differed through the week but none that looked tempting to me. For deserts there were a choice of 2 gateau plus small cakes. profiteroles but no chocolate sauce and small portions of custard deserts, rice pudding and similar. A choice of 2 ice-cream tubs as well. The restaurant was smart with white table clothes and a drinks menu on each table. Prices ok. I paid 15 euro for bottle of wine. 3.5 for bottles of alcohol fre beer and 2.5 for 500ml water. The staff were very attentive snd pleasant and efficient. Any used plates were wisked away immediately and used tables cleared and reset in minutes. I did go out for a English breakfast twice at the Drunken Sailor a 10 min walk on the sea front. I was planning on eating out for an evening meal at one of the terrific choice of restaurants at the Marina and along the promenade but didn't get around to it. I would stay at the Alay again despite my criticism of the food (as I can always eat out ) because of its quiet atmosphere and no kids. In walking around the Prom inc into Torremolinos I witnessed too much noisy pool party activities and kids activities happening in other hotels which is not to my taste. Oh. I should add that Alay entertainment was limited in the evening at the outdoor Sun and Moon bar.. a dj most evening playing middle of the road inoffensive pop..think Stevie Wonder etc. A few nights there were live acts. A Flamenco show. Elvis act and guy playing acoustic guitar instrumentals and singing. Suited the clientele. I should also mention that bar does snack food in the day. I had a burger one afternoon which was outstandingly good... Huge . I was so full I didn't bother having an evening meal that night..

Great find in a great location!

    rating10 May 2026

On our last day here at the Alay. Seen it many times over the years but never had the occasion to book. Glad I did. Excellent hotel. Clean, fresh and well maintained. Staff are all excellent. Pool areas are great. The rooms are lovely. Decent size but no tea/coffee facilities. We bring our own but besides that the hotel is not expensive. A pint of beer is €5 and if that doesn’t float your boat there are loads of bars and coffee shops right outside or a very short walk. DJ every night with a great flamenco show on Fridays. Would definitly recommend and we will definitely be staying again.

    STAFF STOLE MY CLOTHES

    rating03 May 2026

BEWARE STAFF STOLE my new clothes ! I stayed in Hotel Alay 20/4/26 for 5 nights with my brother and his wife in the next room. My husband died 8 months ago so I was staying in the room alone . So you can imagine how anxious I was staying in this room alone . Anyway I bought a jacket ,dress, bag, earrings at a beautiful boutique on the marina for an upcoming wedding back in Ireland . I left the new bag of purchases on the 22/4/26 late afternoon in a cupboard below the TV . I noticed my room was not cleaned that morning but when we came back that evening the room was cleaned. 24 hours later I opened the cupboard to add another purchase I made and could not believe my bag of clothes were stolen ! The room was cleaned again the next morning. So housekeeping were in twice . I was distraught., disgusted and totally disappointed as I have travelled a lot and love to buy fashion abroad. The hotel were totally useless and when my brother and I went straight to reception they told me to go back to my room and honestly if I was to wait on them to contact me I would still be sitting there ! I never once got taken to an office and sat down and asked what actually was stolen ! They just told me to go to Tormellinous police as they speak English. Other holiday makers told us that they swiped into their room and were startled by a lady who said she was the head housekeeper checking the work of the maid . The manager told us that staff had to keep doors ajar if they were inside . One other couple told us they swiped and a window cleaner was locked in their room too cleaning the patio doors ! Management were so unhelpful to me and being recently widowed it was truly an awful experience and I did not sleep the rest of my holiday ! Needless to say I placed the DO NOT DISTURB sign on my door and bought a lock for my suitcase !! This was my 6th visit to this area but my first and last visit to the Hotel Alay ! I honestly think as I placed that bag of clothes in the cupboard they maybe hoped I would not open it until I was packing to go home and there would be no time to report it ! The manager printed out the records of who swiped into my room and said he could not ‘press his staff’ and my goodness not any of them are going to admit stealing my beautiful purchases ! I said the bottom line is HIS STAFF stole my purchases ! So girls be aware !!!!
