Excellent Value and Traditional Spanish Charm

    rating20 May 2022

So before the pros, the only Con. I will just say that literally no English is spoken, so a smattering of Restaurant Spanish is useful. Other than that we had dinner b&b, for 110 Euro in May. The breakfast was basic but all you would want, bread, meat, cheese etc, the evening meal was great if over large portions for us. The two evening waiters we had were so delightful as we all made attempts to understand each other, and there were little things on the house, including a sweet Ximenes wine which was fantastic. The room was clean and everything worked, the communal spaces were beautiful and tasteful. It was very quiet when we were there, as I think this maybe more of a winter hotel, but looks like the locals use the bar and the restaurant too which is always a good sign. Location is just off the A 92 motorway, a good stop for the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, and not far from the Western THeme Parks where the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti westerns were shot. Also near Guadix and the Cave Houses.

    Impressive building and decent rooms

    rating02 Nov 2021

On the edge of La Calahorra which when we visited was a very quiet town. On the edge of the Sierra Nevada with great views of the imposing castle and mountains beyond. Decent rooms, and everything you need for a short stay. Looks like it had seen better / busier days but much of hospitality has suffered over the last 18 months. Nice bar / garden area, decent breakfast and evening meal.

    Lovely town, lovely hotel

    rating06 Apr 2020

We visited Calahorra on a trip from Murcia to Granada, we wanted to drive through Sierra Nevada so this was a convenient town to stay in. The hotel was really attractive, we had a room overlooking the castle which was wonderful. The hotel is a traditional style which we like so suited us perfectly. We were lucky enough to get a warm day when we arrived so we were able to sit and have a relaxing drink in the lovely garden. Everything was in excellent condition and the hotel was extremely clean and welcoming. A great visit!

Depressing stay, tired, badly managed -except for restaurant staff

    rating31 Aug 2019

The hotel has seen better days. Plants outside were dying and there was dust and rubbish round the entrance. We were told the pool was closed in advance ,- the offer of admission to another pool was made but 5 Kms away! Our room had no view and a child’s bed in it where I assume a chair might have been. The bathroom was clean and well equipped . We were plagued by flies in the room which we were told came from the goat/pig farm over the road. This was also where the smell came from when the wind was in that direction!!We tried to contact reception in a number of occasions but there was never anybody there. We wanted to change rooms and get rid of the flies! It felt as if the management had given up and the place was about to close. Breakfast was coffee, toast and orange juice. Really friendly service for breakfast ,- but really a four star hotel??????Poor value for money.

Excellent place to stay. Great views over to the castle. Great bar with long cold beers on tap. With a good choice of freshly cooked local food, just what you need after a long day in the saddle.Safe parking under the hotel for the bikes was a definite plus.
