The air conditioning was almost nonexistent.

    rating07 Jul 2025

The location of the hotel is lovely. It is close to everything and that is a big plus. The courtyard is beautiful. That being said it was extremely hot in Granada and our air conditioning was almost nonexistent. It was difficult to sleep. When I asked about it at the front desk when we arrived, he basically said the air conditioning works sometimes. This prevented me from going to the front desk to complain because I felt like we were already told it might not work. When I checked out, he said I should have let them know. It was a little bit confusing to say the least. I am sure if it were cooler out this hotel would be fine.

    Brilliant

    rating23 Apr 2025

I loved this hotel. It’s in a fabulous location and within 5-10 mins to most of the main squares. Loads of pubs, restaurants and Mercado nearby. The entrance is so in keeping with the history and the courtyard peaceful. The room was spacious, bed comfy and the terrace fab which had table and chairs and two sun loungers. We looked on to the Serra Nevada which was beautiful, and some school play pitches. It was Easter so schools not in bar one day and yes some might think noisy but it was just kids and once the door was closed you couldn’t hear them. Not at all a deal breaker. The shower has to be one of the best for water pressure I’ve ever been in, and the hairdryer more than decent - this is always an issue for me but it had power and a nozzle - hairdryers on holiday are the bane of my life!! We had breakfast one morning and that was also great. €13 each and had loads of choice - eggs, Spanish omelette, bacon, pate, cheeses, meats, pastries, breads, cereal, yogurt, fruit…… loads. We’d definitely stay here again and recommend. Not as quirky as expected

I booked this hotel as I was hoping for a building with charm and it was charming from the outside however the monastery part of it inside was limited to the courtyard and the initial entrance. The rest of the building was very much a hotel of average standard. The location was quite good and it was quiet and clean.

You may not get the room booked

    rating12 Nov 2024

I don't ordinarily write reviews, much preferring to leave that to my partner RobANorwich as listed below. I was just so upset by the amazing amount of gaslighting and revisionist material this hotel management was trying to present as fact, that I couldn't sit by and do nothing. When we arrived we were told by the receptionist that our room was unavailable. He told us there was something wrong with the bathroom that could not be fixed right away and our room would not be available until the next day. Later, the manager admitted to my partner that the hotel had overbooked and that was why our room was unavailable. So which was it?We were offered a lesser room, that naturally cost less and so offered at the normal price for that room. The receptionist told us he was giving us a discount, due to the inconvenience. Charging us the normal price for a room does not indicate a discount and so the gaslighting continued. The other option he offered us was to 'just to find another hotel.'We took the lesser room, even though it was not what we expected and was rather inconvenient having to move everything the next day, especially since our stay was not that long. Weeks later in his attempt at an explanation, the manager describes how we were offered a terrace room at another one of the Macia chain's hotels. I must assume that this is what the receptionist told him, as he was not himself present to hear this first hand. Had we actually been offered that room and had that hotel been in a convenient proximity to the original hotel, we may have gladly taken the room. I must say that this response is so much nicer than just 'find another hotel', leaving us to finding a room ourselves. Unfortunately, this scenario never happened. We are two individuals in our 70's who were just looking for a nice relaxing holiday in Granada. Management at the hotel and the head office have stated that all emails with regard to this situation were answered immediately. This is also not true. Our immediate complaint to Macià thread office was not replied to, attached below. They say we were offered a breakfast at the hotel. This is true, but what they failed to say, is that it was offered to us 15 minutes before breakfast was over! Needless to say, it was a bit disingenuous to say the least. Had we been interested in breakfast at the hotel, we would have booked it ourselves. The complaint procedure is also rife with problems. Obtaining the forms that are sent to the government (supposedly to maintain high standards and required) from the receptionist was not easy. Then the forms filled out by the hotel were full of mistruths. There was no response from the government office, other than repeating what the hotel had told them, and so worthless. My holiday is over and I have nothing to gain from this review. My only reason for writing it is warn others about what might be facing them should they have a problem at this or other Macia hotels. Also to make them aware that although it seems reassuring to know that the government is looking out for tourists, in reality, it is not.Granada is such a lovely city, it is a real shame that our visit was spoiled by this hotel and I don't want the same happening to anyone else. Do not count on the room you book

    rating14 Oct 2024

BE WARNED; At the Macia Monasterio Los Basilios there is a real risk you will get a downgraded room or no room at all, due to routine overbooking, when you arrive. My partner and I booked the Superior Terrace room at the Macià Monastery, Granada but on arrival it was not available until the next day. We were told to take the downgrade room or 'find another hotel'. WHAT ATERRIBLE WELCOME !!!The room offered had a dank smell, screaming hinges on the bathroom door, and two main lights not working, loud air-conditioning and a very dinghy outlook. We did move the next day with all the considerable inconvenience of repacking. An email of complaint to the Macia head office was never responded to. The only compensation offered was being charged the lower price of the confort room, which was everything but comfortable!!!I initiated a “Hojas de Reclamaciones” complaint which the hotel manager must sign and pass to the government, but the manager was always hiding. I caught him on the last day by barging into his office, even though the receptionist claimed he was out!!! Surprisingly there were other completed complaint forms on his desk; My situation is not an isolated occurrence, Routine overbooking is the norm at the Macia Monastery. For the Macia Monasterio Los Basilios hotel to so casually abuse the key rule of providing the room as booked by the guest, and for the management to hide and deceive, sums the approach from this hotel. Our complaint has now passed to the government for investigation.
