    The effect of Deja vu.

    rating15 Nov 2020

When I first entered this boarding house, I experienced the effect of Deja vu. I thought I had already lived here, even though it was our first visit to Granada. This is a patio in the center, a fountain, tiles similar to the Portuguese Azulejo, creaking stairs - all this I already saw in Seville a few years ago. As there, I chose the combination of price/proximity to the center. This option was the best. Everything else was not so important. Non-burning light bulbs, problems with W-Fi (although this is important). We don't come to Granada to stay in a hotel. It is only a place of sleep. And nothing more. In this sense, a good place. Angeles Moron, Agencia/asesor at Pension San Joaquin, responded to this review Dear VadimM67,Thank you so much for all, we only can be grateful to had you with us.We hope to see you again in our next "deja vu" lol.Best regards and stay safe!

Budget rooms in a character full building.

    rating07 Nov 2019

Booked because the price was good and the photos of the courtyard area looked nice. I was not disappointed at all. The room was quite basic and dated, but clean, with a comfortable bed and a private bathroom. The communal areas and courtyard areas are really very pleasant, with a character that suits the old city perfectly. The street that the hotel is on is not particularly attractive, but it felt safe, it has good facilities with a nice cafe nearby, a supermarket on the corner and it’s within easy walking distance of the old town area. Overall the building is absolutely charming, fantastic value and I personally I would book this again over a more luxurious hotel because of its charm. I really enjoyed it. ANGE H, Director de Relaciones con Clientes at Pension San Joaquin, responded to this review Dear JerseyCIMatt72,Thank you for sharing your feedback! We hope you have enjoyed your stay and Granada city.We take note about your comments to improve our service.Best regards

Mike at the Pension San Joaquin

    rating03 Nov 2018

The refurbished building was conveniently located in Granada's old town. It had two pleasant, spacious courtyards on its ground floor that provided quiet places to sit or read. It was within easy walking distance of all of the old part of town and within 20 or 30 minutes walk of the Alhambra. Although it was on a very narrow street, my taxi from the bus station was able to deliver me to the front door. I am not sure what kind of a building had been remodeled into this pension, but the remodeling required a certain amount of fitting square pegs into round holes. In particular, I was able to ride an elevator to the floor where my room was, but the still had to wrestle my full-sized, overstuffed suitcase up and down a few stair and through a tight hallway to get it into my oddly shaped, small room. The bathroom, which had perfectly fine facilities, was also wedged into available space. The wifi-server for the hotel was not up-to-date, and I was unable to download my hometown newspaper to my computer because of some deficiency in the server or the network. ANGE H, Director de Relaciones Públicas at Pension San Joaquin, responded to this review Dear mgilmore2018,We appreciated so much your reply and feedback. As you know, Pensión San Joaquin is composed of two old buildings that have official protection. Its structure can not adapt to the present. We try to make the possible improvements but it takes time. Whenever you have some type of incident, please say to us during your stay because when you leave us is no way to help tyou.Thank you so much and best regards.

    Great choice!

    rating21 Jan 2018

The common areas of this beautiful Pension are probably the most beautiful of any reasonably priced accommodation in Granada. My room was less eye catching but perfectly serviceable and if you're in Granada to sightsee you're not going to be spending much time in your room except to sleep. Bed was comfortable. My room was cleaned and the bed properly made every day. Great shutters on the windows gave complete blackout and the area is really quiet, I got some great nights' sleep. Water was super hot and the shower was great. I visited in winter and the lovely and very helpful owner showed me how to warm it up, if you go in winter ask him rather than just thinking "I'm cold" but not doing anything about it. He also helped me to book taxis and flamenco shows and gave me good directions to the places I wanted to go. I recommend the flamenco show that's advertised in the hotel, one of the Sacromonte cave shows, it was amazing. There's always someone on duty in reception and as a solo female traveller I felt that they were looking out for my safety, I never felt at risk. I recommend the vegetarian/vegan restaurant that's advertised at the hotel, AlLaurel, fantastic quality food and wine. If you need a hairdryer they have a supply in reception, just ask. There was a decent TV in my room but I didn't bother watching it as I was out all the time. The room would benefit from a wall mirror, but there was a good enough one in the bathroom. One of the best things was that the internet signal in my room was strong and consistent. I was there 4 days and it didn't drop out once. The hotel is perfectly placed to have good access to the main roads, the Albayzin and there's a great short cut that takes you to the Cathedral and tourist information office in about 3 minutes and Plaza Nueva in about 8 minutes. The Alhambra about 20 minutes if you walk very fast (which I did - late for a tour!), it's up a steep hill! Or stroll in 30 minutes. I found this pension via an internet search and was fully satisfied with my choice. I will definitely book it as my first choice on any return trips to Granada. Angeles M, Director de Relaciones Públicas at Pension San Joaquin, responded to this review Dear Turkishtravels,First of all, thank you so much for your feed back.It is really nice to know did you enjoy your experience with us.We hope to see you soon by Pension San Joaquin.Best regards!

Omg!!! Simply the worse place I have stayed for the money I paid

    rating25 Nov 2017

This place is very well located that's it. Don't ask for anything more. The room is outdated, bathroom needs to be renewed and improved massively (to be just nice in my comment). There is hot water that is good but to be honest the room was just not what you would expect for the money. I was looking for something typical and local and to be honest the building is very nice but the rooms do not accompany. Paid 50 euros a night while if you go to a 4 star on a promotion a bit further you can pay the same money and use the "Metro" which connects today a lot better Granada. The internet works a bit slow and the heating system is not on most of the time but on demand (individual for your room). Won't stay ever again unless they remodel it to the better. Angeles M, Director de Relaciones Públicas at Pension San Joaquin, responded to this review Dear Facundo, thank you so much for your feed back.We take into consideration your suggestions to go on doing our best.Regards.
