    Needs improving

    rating28 May 2026

We recently stayed at Hotel El Paso at PortAventura World. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the rooms were always clean. The food was lovely with plenty of choice, and you certainly would not go hungry. However, for a 4-star hotel, we were disappointed that there was not even a kettle in the room. Also, at the end of May there was no evening entertainment, which we would normally expect at a hotel of this standard. We also had an issue with towels one evening. The maid did not replace them, and despite phoning reception twice, we never received fresh towels that day and had to use our beach towels instead. The main downside for us was the restaurant experience during busy meal times. Getting food felt like “food wars” at times, with guests pushing in, grabbing utensils, and not queuing politely. At one point I had to speak up after another guest behaved very rudely. I feel this could be improved greatly if staff monitored the buffet area more closely and if the hotel invested in queue barriers or line dividers to create an organised system.Because of this, we ended up eating out most evenings and costly, which was a shame because the food itself was very good. Overall, the hotel has a lot of positives and could be even better if these issues were addressed. And heads up taxis cost nearly 12 to 14 euros a trip to salo.

    Enjoyable stay.

We had a lovely time at this hotel, the rooms were clean and beds comfortable, staff were polite and food was ok. Evening buffet was a bit limited but that’s the only negative, the à la carte restaurant was lovely. Great value being able to use food vouchers in the park.

Dated rooms, ants and average food but close to the park.

    rating24 May 2026

This hotel is a great location for the park and good value for money but don't expect 4 star quality. We stayed at the Hotel El Paso in PortAventura for 5 nights in May. It is classed as a 4 star hotel but it is looking very tired and the rooms definitely needs some attention. The location of the hotel is excellent for Park access. It takes approx. 7-10 minutes to walk to the park entrance. And the pool area is very attractive and welcoming with plenty of sun-loungers (no towels provided, so you need to take your own) and a pool bar with drinks and ice creams, the pool itself is huge with plenty of room for everyone.Whilst we were there, there was also a number of school groups staying. To be fair to all of the school children they were very well behaved and the hotel had placed all of the school groups in the main building, whilst it seemed all of the holiday guests were in the outer buildings. But at meal times it was absolute chaos in the dining room. Again, not the children's fault, they were eating where they had been told to go. But there were hundreds of them from a number of different schools and the hotel only has one main serving counter for hot food. As you can imagine, it was like eating in a school canteen! The dining room was split into three rooms (with a fourth overflow room with seating only - which they decided not to use!) The main room with the hot food on the main serving counter and two side rooms with plenty of seating but with pastries and cold meats at breakfast and salads and breads at dinner. If they had just made one of the two side rooms hot food for the children then it wouldn't have been absolute chaos in the main dining room. Sometimes we had to wait 15 minutes before you could even get any where near the hot food in the evenings and at breakfast it was even longer. I would recommend trying to find out if any school trips are going to be there when you book. The food selection in the buffet was average. Breakfast was a much better variety and standard than the evening meal options. There was plenty of pastries, breads, cold meats, fruits and cereals along with hot breakfast items like bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, mushrooms and freshly made American pancakes. Tea bags and hot water are available and a coffee machine along with fruit juices. The evening meal consisted of salad items, cheeses, cold meats, dips, breads and a different soup each evening. The main serving counter was mainly, burgers, hot dogs, fries and pizza slices. There was always a meat option although most nights there were no labels to tell you what was being served. The desserts were jelly, random tiny squares of cakes (no labels) yoghurt and an ice cream freezer. If you are not on all-inclusive drinks are ordered and paid for at the table. The quality of the food was average. Not 4 star but not in-edible.The rooms are looking very tired, I think they were probably built 30 years ago and have not been touched since. There are chips and chunks out of doors and paintwork everywhere. Our bath had rust all along it and around the plughole. The drawers and bedside units are wooden, like the furniture your great grandma had in the 1800's and it smells of old wood. We found a number of ants in the room. Never more than 1 or 2 at a time and we never found where they were coming from but we found at least 10 to 20 in our 5 night stay. The house-keeping staff are pretty bad. There were 3 adults in our room and every day we had a different number of towels left, for example, 2 bath and 1 hand towel, or 3 bath towels and no hand towels and never a bath mat. We had to call each day for more towels. Also they do not make your bed. They pull the top sheet up neatly and place the throw pillows on the bed but when you pull the top sheet back at night the bed sheet is unmade, we just got used to remaking the beds fully every night. If you can look past the ants, the average food, the terrible house keeping and the dated battered rooms and you want a hotel that is fairly reasonable in price and close to PortAventura then you will probably like this hotel. If you want 4 star luxury, this hotel is not for you. Disappointing

    rating18 May 2026

We visited last year at the same time and we had a fantastic holiday (see my review from last year) We booked again with no hesitation when we arrived home. I’ve been keeping up with reviews etc and it continues to be very mixed, with the knowledge we had from last year (maybe an overly romantic view!) we expected a similar experience! Unfortunately it wasn’t the case.We were given the same room as last year, that is where the comparison ends! It wasn’t all bad, just changes to rules etc from last year which aren’t for the best (in our opinion)Pros:The pool is great (a bit cold, but once you’re in it only takes a short while to get used to it!!)The rooms were clean and were freshened up daily, no issues again with the cleanliness of the rooms and the general public areasVery close to the theme park – short walk down the path next to ‘El Coyote’ restaurant. Unlimited access with room key if you are all inclusive (not sure about any other board type)Loads of sun loungers during the day, most people tend to be at the theme park but if you are having a pool day then it was really quiet. The staff are all friendly and helpful in our experience, (check-in staff, cleaners, restaurant workers and bar staff)Very helpful in booking taxi’s etc for heading down to the beach (which is a must!)Dine-around option is great for using in the theme park. We visited La Cantina three times and would highly recommend it.Breakfast probably the best meal time – lots of continental choice as well as cooked itemsSlight discount in the machines at reception for express pass – we bought the unlimited passes as the Friday was predicted to be packed so it was a good decision!!Now onto the negatives:Small changes from last year to the booking slots for meals. Evening meal now one slot 07:30pm – 10:30pm – I’ll get onto issue with this later! For evening meal there is now no longer an option to use self service drinks machines for soft drinks?? We were all inclusive so expected this to be the same as last year. I appreciate some guests are not but if you pay for something then you expect to receive it.The food was nowhere near as good as last year. I have no idea what has happened, but everything was either barely warm or cold. On the last night there was a Mexican theme and it looked amazing, but everything was either warm or cold which was a disappointment. The lunchtime offering at Club Maya (if you are having a pool day) is, again, nowhere near as good as last year. I’m not sure if it was because it was quiet on the first day but there was only one of everything and one item replenished when food was taken (may not seem like an issue, but when there are a few families there at the same time it takes a while to get something to eat). It was cold and the choice not as varied as last year. More items became available as the week went on but still not great. I know the hotel expects most people to be at the theme park but catering for those that stay during the day by the pool shouldn’t be an afterthought. Now the major issue – with the evening meal slots being taken away and left with 07:30pm – 10:30pm it can be, for lack of a better word, carnage!! especially if there are large school trips etc. I mentioned this last year as one of the problems but after an initial period of massive queues it would settle down – not this year. One night in particular was unbelievably bad, you just couldn’t get near anything as the restaurant seemed over capacity and they obviously have no concept of queuing etc to the point my kids were being pushed out the way. It was maybe made worse due to the fact the weather on that particular day was bad and most people (including us) left the park early meaning the dinner slot was rammed as soon as the doors opened. No idea who oversees these groups (teachers, youth leaders etc) but there is no organisation. Hotel staff overwhelmed too and total lack of managerial presence to ensure ALL guests are comfortable. Surely the management of the hotel know how many of these groups are visiting, maybe they need to rethink the booking process for evening meals. I know there are a few families we spoke to that would be more than happy to avoid the ‘early’ slot to be more comfortable at evening meal time (or any time slot that can be used for large groups!). I know they are paying guests too, it’s the lack of organisation that is the problem.I hate being too negative as we did enjoy most of the facilities, the closeness to the theme park and the very friendly and helpful staff. We are just a bit gutted that the experience we had last year didn’t compare with this trip. Our kids love the hotel, especially the pool/theme park and are desperate to visit Portaventura again. Would I book El Paso again? Probably not at this stage, but I’d need to keep an eye on the reviews to see if the problems persist. One final recommendation – take a trip down to the beach! We had a great time down there, we had a great meal/drinks etc PortAventura World, Other at Hotel El Paso De Portaventura World, responded to this review Thank you very much for your detailed comments regarding your stay.Regarding the dinner service, the schedule has been designed without fixed seating times so that guests can come during the restaurant opening hours at the time that best suits them, helping to avoid congestion and improve flexibility. We also appreciate all your other feedback, which will be taken into account as we continue working to improve our services and guest experience.
