  Mostly glorious stay with one questionable issue

  Mostly great stay at one of the best hotels in the city. Very spacious room, luxurious bathroom products, overall accommodations. Turndown service and housecleaning was excellent.Front desk service was top notch, warm and friendly. Location is perfect if you are planning to use train system for daytripping out of the city. Jungfraujoch was a bucket list experience and the hike down from Eigergletscher to Grindelwald at the height of spring was a storybook experience. Our stay was almost perfect at the Schweizerhof.The security person in the foyer did aggressively ask us when we were returning to the hotel at 11:00pm one night if we were actually guests of the hotel as we were entering the front door. He seemed suspicious and acted like he didn’t believe we belonged at the hotel.It did feel like we were 'singled out' because one of us is a person of color, a mixed race person. We understand this is an issue in Switzerland and probably around Europe. It certainly is in the US. But we clearly entered the hotel and had room cards to go up the elevator, so the question felt unnecessary, hostile and racially motivated. After showing him the room card we were able to come upstairs. But he didn’t apologize or welcome us back to the hotel. Perhaps it is the policy of the hotel to ask guests after a certain time of day upon entering if they “belong” at the hotel. But it didn't go over well with us and left a bad taste in our mouths about the otherwise wonderful stay.   Central, large rooms but costly

  Very spacious and nice room. We stayed in April during a bit of a warm period. The rooms apparently have air conditioning but the lowest setting is 20 Celcius and it didn't appear to do anything; not sure the room every cooled to 20 degrees. The lighting has some odd combination switches that turn more than one lamp on (and off) at a time but the switches and light control is very finicky. Close to the train station and right at the edge of the old town and attractions, very walkable location. As our building operates with a central ventilation system rather than traditional air conditioning, cooling capabilities are limited, especially during warmer periods. We understand that this may have affected your comfort.   Beautiful place, but beware cigar smoke in lobby

  A really lovely hotel with a fantastic rooftop terrace. Service was friendly and prompt, and everything was absolutely spotless. The only unpleasant experience was that the cigar lounge makes the whole lobby area stink of cigar smoke because it's not sufficiently isolated from the main lobby. We wanted to hang out in the beautiful lobby for a drink, but could not stand the smell.   Convenient Location, Terrific Staff

  We stayed with our family (one grandparent and one child) and we were very happy with our stay. The hotel is conveniently situated next to the main train station. It’s walking distance from all of the major tourist attractions in Old Town. Despite the central location, the hotel is also very quiet and peaceful. We used Bern as a hub to do day trips across the country. Most places were within 60-90 minutes. We found it convenient for our day trips to Lausanne, Evian Les Bains, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, and Neuchatel.The rooms were clean and they accommodated bespoke requests. (It was unusually hot when we arrived and we requested a fan for the room which they brought up immediately)Try their restaurant Jack’s. It’s one of the best in town. Great service and food.They have a beautiful rooftop bar that offers panoramic views of the city. And a spa/gym that is also very clean and private. For us, the best part of the trip was the warm and friendly staff. Anna and Anissa in particular were terrific and always greeted our family by name and went above the call of duty to make our stay memorable. Highly recommend!
