    Go eyes wide open

    rating05 May 2026

The hotel itself is pretty , we had a bad experience with check in with being allocated the incorrect room which we booked and paid for . It took a few hours to sort out , not what you want after travelling the entire day ! Once inside the “correct room” the aircon wasn’t working they sent maintenance out only to find when we returned from dinner it was still not working so back to reception the next morning .What they don’t tell you is the beach is NOT swimable due to 100’s of sea urchins .also you dare not step on the beach without being harassed by the messai literally 6 times a day if that is how often you dare step of the patio !The food was dismal and bland , for a spice island one would expect some flavour ? Also to be served a 4 course meal for lunch in summer is not appetising, they should have a light meal /snacks option think poolside beachy vibes not pasta and rice .Lastly the all in drinks option was the worst I’ve ever experienced in our travels . Only 1 beer option and for the cocktails I have no words , No fruit juice for any cocktails so vodka and soda water or rum and Coke was as good as it gets . Although brandy was offered they didn’t have stock . At breakfast they had 1 jug of fruit juice like tamarin juice or watered down pineapple juice but that was the only time we saw any kind of juice ! Guest Relation Office AHG, Guest Services / Front Office at AHG Dream's Bay Beach Hotel, responded to this review Dear sharonvn2022,Thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry to read that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations; however, we believe it is important to provide a few clarifications so that the review accurately reflects what occurred during your stay.Regarding the check-in process, the request to change rooms was made after you had already checked into the initially assigned room and spent some time on its balcony. The room assigned to you did in fact feature a frontal sea view and was located on the first floor. As soon as you expressed your preference for a different location, our staff immediately took action to accommodate your request and, within less than an hour, you were assigned the room you preferred. For this reason, the description of “waiting several hours” does not reflect what actually happened. With regard to the air conditioning, a report was made shortly after your arrival in the room and our staff intervened promptly. Unfortunately, a second issue occurred during the night, but the matter was definitively resolved the following morning. We are also surprised to read such severe comments regarding the overall experience, considering that during your stay and at check-out no particular dissatisfaction was expressed to us. On the contrary, the feedback questionnaire completed at the resort contained positive comments about the holiday, with the exception of the remarks regarding the beach. On this last point, we would like to underline that the presence of sea urchins and Maasai vendors along the coast represents a natural and cultural characteristic of the destination and is not dependent on the hotel management. We understand that this may not suit every guest’s preferences, but these are typical aspects of the area.As for the restaurant and bar service, a fresh and different “juice of the day” is offered daily, while both orange juice and the fresh juice of the day are regularly available at breakfast. We always welcome constructive feedback with attention and respect; however, we also believe it is important that reviews reflect the facts in a balanced and consistent manner, especially in relation to what was expressed during the stay itself.Kind regards,Guest RelationAHG Dream's Bay Beach Hotel

All by all a disappointing experience, not worth the 4*

    rating10 Oct 2025

Stay juli, location is quite remote, dinner isn’t worth four star rating, claims or requests aren’t taken seriousply to the point that being right on their terms is more important than being hospitable. Not worth four stars..disappointing.

A very good hotel. The food was not extraordinary, but it was good, the rooms were clean, close to the beach, I recommend this hotel, we liked it, it is very quiet, perfect for relaxation. The water in the pool is clean. There are a few locals on the beach, they don't bother.

Review of AHG Dream's Bay Boutique Hotel, Zanzibar (27/12/24 - 03/01/25)

    rating04 Jan 2025

My wife and I had an exceptional stay at AHG Dream's Bay Boutique Hotel, and we are delighted to share our wonderful experience. The hotel is located about an hour's drive from the airport, and while the journey may seem long, it is absolutely worth it. This adults-only boutique hotel is intimate, with a limited number of rooms arranged around a central pool area, offering a peaceful and private atmosphere. We stayed in room B3 on the ground floor and were impressed by the cleanliness and care provided by the housekeeping staff, who visited twice daily—once in the morning and once in the evening around dinnertime. The room’s patio featured two comfortable chairs and a shaded table, perfect for relaxing outdoors. We encountered no issues throughout our stay.We opted for the all-inclusive package, which included breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, as well as unlimited access to cocktails, soft drinks, and water throughout the day. The dining experience was well-organized: guests choose their meals during the breakfast buffet by filling out a form with three options per course. There was always a vegetarian option, as well as classic dishes like hamburgers (available as beef, fish, or vegetarian) served with fries. The food was consistently tasty and fresh. The staff was exceptional—always kind, attentive, and smiling. While they maintained a relaxed demeanor, they worked tirelessly, particularly during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, which were a highlight of our stay. The event was perfectly executed and filled with joy, thanks to their dedication.A special mention goes to Daniele, the Italian manager of the hotel. He was incredibly helpful and attentive to every guest’s needs, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. His commitment and passion were evident in every interaction. The hotel opens directly onto a public beach, frequented by locals, including beach boys and Masai selling excursions or souvenirs. While their initial persistence can be a bit overwhelming, a polite "no, thank you" usually suffices to end the interaction. One memorable aspects of our stay was the hotel’s massage service. The masseuse was highly skilled, and the massage bed was located on a sea-facing terrace, offering breathtaking views, the soothing sounds of the ocean, and a constant, refreshing sea breeze that made the experience even more relaxing. On the same terrace, there was also a beautiful relaxation area with double canopy beds, where I enjoyed some of the most peaceful and serene moments of my life. The only downside to the beach is that it’s not ideal for swimming due to the presence of rocks, sea urchins, and low tide in the morning, as well as numerous boats anchored nearby in the afternoon. As a result, we opted to explore other beaches and attractions on the island through excursions. One suggestion for the hotel would be to offer a shuttle service to more swimmable beaches, with scheduled returns for guests.Evenings at the hotel were lively yet never intrusive, thanks to thoughtfully planned activities such as Masai dances, acrobat performances, live music, games, and aperitifs. These events fostered a friendly and social atmosphere, making it easy to connect with fellow guests and enjoy memorable nights. Despite the vibrant evening activities, the hotel was extremely tranquil at night, allowing for restful sleep. One minor inconvenience was the salinity of the tap water in the rooms, which we learned is a widespread issue on the island due to saltwater infiltrating the plumbing systems. While it’s safe for showering and brushing teeth, it’s not suitable for drinking. However, this didn’t significantly affect our stay, as bottled water was always available.Overall, we had an outstanding experience. The hotel’s cozy setup, excellent service, and engaging activities exceeded our expectations. The addition of the massage service and relaxation area was truly the cherry on top, adding a level of luxury and tranquility we didn’t expect. If we have the opportunity, we would absolutely love to return in the future. Highly recommended!
