    Charming rustic accommodation

    rating22 Jan 2026

Lovely family run beach bungalows , we stayed in Upenda B room which had great air con and 2 fans , yes a few times there was power cuts (it’s Zanzibar not the uk).The pool was super clean as was all of the site . Yes it’s rustic but that suits our vibe and the bar / restaurant team were courteous , fun , friendly and relaxed. The food was excellent and fresh with the menu changed twice a day. We usually only stay a few days in each location we go but liked it so much here we stayed for 10 nights . Nice coastal walks into nearby Paje and jambiani and lots of local caves nearby to swim in as well. Tuk tuk from Paje back cost less than £2 . Yes the beach and tide goes out for a long way but it is eerily beautiful ,As others have said go to a 5 star resort if you want to pose for instagram We loved our time at Mbuyuni and would highly recommend for others wanting to chill

I love the island, weather and people outside . But unfortunately, the hostess were not nice to us. We did a long long flight, more than 18H, we were so exhausted, we arrived at 7am and we needed to sleep in the reception/ leisure area, because the bedrooms weren’t ready for us, we did a half pension , and we didn’t eat our breakfast, because we needed to wait until the check in time .. In the second day, we went late for the breakfast as we were so tired and because of a question of time, they didn’t serve the breakfast, only coffees, because I asked for , and they did it in a rudely way. Even the breakfast was about fruits, and a few things like eggs and bread ! So I think they could easily arranged that for us. I asked for a explanation about the excursions, and they didn’t even mention it, I needed to ask more than on time but then, I decided to do it, with local people who approached us on the beach, with good reviews on internet , who I highly recommend to! They didn’t clean our bedroom, nor even the floor or change the towels every day, we did ask for that, but the ladies didn’t do it. I don’t used to do this kinda of reviews, but this was out of our control. We really thought it would be different as we saw good reviews on internet. We also needed help with the transfer to airport and they are just told us to call to our agency . Unfortunately, this is only bad for them ! Because we loved the island, and the people we met there :) we didn’t let that stupefy our time there. And we hope you guys have a better stay than us ! Kind regards :)

Secluded Tropical Jungle Setting on a Quiet Beach

    rating06 Apr 2025

We arrived in Zanzibar with no accommodation plans, expecting to simply "wing it" after arrival. We arrived on the island late in the day, and were ready for the cab ride across to the east shore even later (word to the wiser-than-us: be ready in advance with the mandatory Zanzibar Travel Insurance documents!!). We booked Mbuyuni Beach Village through a 3rd party online service, and received a confirmation. However, the booking was not processed completely due to the late hour. No problem! The helpful and drama-free management staff took us in, and provided us with a great unit (they're duplex-style, attached to the next unit by one wall) at the same nightly rate quoted by the 3rd party. This place is VERY relaxing, being in a more secluded and quiet area down the beach (south) from the bustling Paje Beach area. It's technically in Jambiani, and the setting -- with it's lush tropical jungle landscaping and beach strip nearly free of passing foot traffic -- feels more like a private compound. Someone(s) on the staff enjoys the Caribbean theme: the common area abounds with references to Bob Marley and easy going quotes and thoughts common to the laid back beach mindset. The cozy bar and restaurant are very welcoming, and we found it difficult to extract ourselves from this area even when it became clear that the staff was packing up for the night and we were the only patrons remaining! A wonderful breakfast was served in this same area in the morning. If you want a relaxing and quiet tropical beach Zanzibar experience, stay at Mbuyuni Beach Village -- and book in advance!
