  We stayed as a couple in May 2026 at Hana Resort on Koh Tao – and honestly, it was a huge disappointment.The room was in very poor condition. The bathroom had visible mold, everything felt dirty, and there were even hairs in the bed. The walls were damaged, and overall the place looked run-down and neglected. It was not just below expectations – it felt genuinely unpleasant to stay there.The transfer from the pier was also a complete failure. The hotel transport was already full, and we were told the driver would return in 10 minutes. He didn’t. After waiting another 20 minutes, we ended up taking a private taxi ourselves – only to see the same driver again at the hotel later. Completely unreliable.When we asked if we could cancel our stay because we felt so uncomfortable, it was refused. Instead, they offered a quick superficial cleaning, which didn’t solve any of the issues.To make things worse, there is a large construction site directly opposite the hotel. That means constant noise all day – no chance to relax.We had very different expectations of Thailand and this stay unfortunately affected our trip significantly. Definitely not recommended.

  Not Beachfront, Good Staff but Not Worth the Price

  The resort is not beachfront, which is a bit disappointing for the price. The staff are very nice and welcoming, and the breakfast team is also friendly, which is a plus.However, the rooms are just okay and don’t really feel worth ฿2500-3000 per night. For the same budget, you can probably find better options around Sairee Beach.Another downside is the extra fee of ฿50 just to go to the center of Sairee (not even the beach), which is quite inconvenient—especially if you’re here for diving. There is a shuttle service, but it doesn’t take you directly to the beach or most dive centers.Overall, staying here can feel a bit inconvenient unless you rent a bike

  Very disappointing.

  On arrival, things looked very promising, but looking back, things were pretty poor. The service of the rooms was poor, no fresh beach towels every day as promised, they never restocked the fridge or the tea and coffee. There was nowhere to hang bath towels(no hooks or rails anywhere), no shaving mirror for the gents, but worst of all, there was nowhere bathroom door and the toilet had glass door( very embarrassing for some people). The only way to get around, unless you’re super fit, is to use the hotel buggies, but as they only have two, you’re waiting a long time for them. Plus, if you don’t use the buggies from reception at their allotted times, it’s 50baht per person to get to the beach and vice versa and you’ve no chance of getting one after 10pm, so it’s a taxi(300 baht for a two minute trip). The breakfast is ok, nothing brilliant, but for the worse thing is, it says 4 pools, but only one is available and that is small and shaded, there are 2 for private rooms and the other is a diving training pool. The only good thing, if you’re lucky enough, is the view from certain rooms and the beds are comfortable. Sorry Tarna resort, not enough. Buck your ideas up for what you charge.

  Biggest disappointment

  This “resort” is below the lowest possible. Not what expected.Pool is tiny, rooms are small and not equipped. They put a wc in a shower cabin? The restaurant is open only until 3pm, bar only has beer or coffeeI could go on and on, just never been this disappointed in a stay ever in my life.

  Enjoyed Koh Tao, would not boom The Tarna again.

  Me and my husband spend 8 nights at The Tarna Resort Koh Tao. We were looking forward to this trip because we had a great experience with the same hotel 6 years ago. The staff was really nice, rooms were great and the location is excellent. However, we would not recommend booking this resort again because we had an unpleasant encounter at the end of our stay checking out. We were charged 830 Thai Baht because house keeping found a towel in our room that they could not get properly clean. Keep in mind that we switched between several rooms during our stay and this happened at our first 2 days at the hotel. None of this was mentioned to us, they waited till check out when we were in a hurry leaving the island again. I really do not understand how you can charge this amount for a towel at a 4* resort especially because all of the bedding (and we slept in 3 different rooms) contained previous stains of (what I hope) was sunscreen. Do they also charge new bedding to guests? Felt like a 2 * hostel treatment.Until now the hotel refuses to respond to our messages, which also feels disappointing. If you want to book The Tarna Resort please keep in mind the following:-Pool rooms are great. Spacious, clean, private. However there is no door to the bathroom which includes the toilet. Same goes for the Honeymoon Suite. -If you want your partner to enjoy their privacy on the toilet please keep in mind that you can spend your time at the balcony however during rainy days you will get soaked because there is no canopy. - As mentioned before rooms are clean except for the bedding. - If your bath towels get a stain, get them cleaned at the Laundry service right outside of the hotel. They will charge 50 Baht per kilo which seems a much more reasonable price. - Exterior needs some maintenance because of broken lights at the stairs which come in handy at night time. Overall, it was nice returning to The Tarna again because of the friendly staff and the lovely rooms but because of the way we were treated at check out and the lack of response about this complaint we would not book again.
