Customized service, unique accommodations - a must for couples!

    rating12 Apr 2006

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Briza Beach Resort, only 2 weeks after they opened. We were one of two guests rooms that were occupied that week (and since they opened). It was an amazing hotel. Here is a short description of our 3 day vacation at the Briza March 30-Apr 2, 2006.We were greeted by the hotel manager and a wonderfully friendly staff, then taken directly to our beachfront pool villa, accompanied by our "butler", Rose. They were a little nervous as we were only one of 2 guests [rooms] checked in at that time, and since they opened. Our butler offered to unpack our bags, and order our dinner for our private open-air living area (awesome!!). We were a little unsure about how to utilize the butler but she soon helped us with all details from dinner reservations, buying music for our lounge area, booking spa appointments, and always keeping our room and clothing neat, clean and ready. Our plunge pool was great. We just jumped in whenever. Our room was beautiful and was closed off from the outside air and was air conditioned. The open-air bathroom was enclosed by walls and a roof, with only about one foot height between the roof and the wall (so very private, although its outside, so it was humid and there were mosquitos. But the bathroom sinks were in the enclosed bedroom "hut". A flat screeen TV, a writing desk, lots of lighting options, a tented beautiful bed, lots of clothing storage, and beautiful hardwood floors are some of the features of the bedroom "hut". Our butler service was wonderful. There were two girls that tended to us on 2 shifts. We ordered lattes in the morning, had her draw us a bath, ordered whatever we wanted for breakfast (not even from menus) and just relaxed on our little sofa overlooking the beach.Downsides: the Chaweng Beach is quite dirty (construction debris, flip-flops, broken bottles, etc in the water). the beach is very shallow and you could walk out very far before even getting to your waist, so it's not very good for swimming, and it was warmer than you'd have your bath!. Also, for us, some of the facilities were not open yet at the resort, but we didn't mind, since we just stayed at our villa. IF you book just a "pool access room" you ar in a two story traditional condo type area and have to get to the pool (which we never actually saw, and I think it wasn't open yet, but we had our own pool anyway). So if you can afford it, try to get a pool or jacuzzi room. If you are looking to do some spa treatments, the resort does have one, but we decided to go to the Tamarind Springs (amazing), since the resort spa was not very special. Although you could have some treatments at your room I believe.Other Upsides: close enough to restaurants to walk, very close to the airport, far enough away from clubs so you can't hear the "thump, thump, chicka chicka, thump, thump". All-in-all a truly 5 Star resort, yet the service was far more unique and personalized than a typical large scale resort like a Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, etc.jjgreen12
