    A fabulous place to stay

    rating08 Jun 2026

This is the fourth time I have stayed at the Phutawan Resort. The last two times have each been for 20 days. Originally I was hesitant about staying as it has a two star hotel rating I believe the reason is they don't have a phone in the room. It should be rated much higher for the accomation and postcard perfect views. I come to Railay Beach to unwind by reading books on the beach and by the pool. The view from the pool area is breathtaking. The breakfaster is more than adequate, The complimentary breakfast menu has now been updated to offer an a la Carte selection which varies each day. The staff are all fabulous and courteous. If I need to be dropped off or picked up from the beach they will drop me off at Walking streetThe reason I keep coming back is that it is a quiet atmosphere, fantastic value. It has everything I want and nothing I don't. Of course I will be back next year and for the foreseeable future. It is my favourite place in the world Eshref Eyiam

Awful isolated poorly managed run down hotel

    rating12 May 2026

I’ve stayed in over 40 hotels in Thailand (and over 90 countries) and this was honestly one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences I’ve had anywhere.First, they demanded a 2000 baht “damage deposit” at check-in — something I was NEVER informed about beforehand. I’ve stayed at luxury resorts, boutique hotels, beach villas, and budget properties, and rarely have I been treated with this level of distrust before even getting to the room. Then came the shock of learning they wanted to charge nearly the SAME PRICE (1,200 bhat) as the adult room rate for my 6-year-old child. A six-year-old. Completely unreasonable and honestly felt like a cash grab at every possible opportunity. To make matters worse, the hotel is stuck up on a hill far from everything. The walk to the main strip is easily 15–20 minutes, and in Thailand’s heat and humidity it feels even longer — especially with a child. Forget casually going out for snacks, restaurants, or 7-Eleven runs unless you’re ready for an exhausting uphill trek back. The location is advertised far better than the reality. The entire experience felt overpriced, inconvenient, and unfriendly toward families. Between the hidden fees, ridiculous child pricing, and isolated location, this hotel completely failed to deliver the relaxing vacation experience we expected. There are FAR better hotels in the area with honest pricing, better locations, and staff who actually make guests feel welcome instead of constantly trying to squeeze more money out of them. I would absolutely never stay here again and would strongly advise families to look elsewhere. Personally, I will never be returning to Railay Beach simply because of this awful experience that has permanently tarnished our experience in Thailand and left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

Good hotel overall, but issues with service and Wi-Fi

    rating16 Mar 2026

Good hotel overall, but issues with service and Wi-FiRailay Phutawan is a beautiful hotel with an amazing view. Although it is a bit far from the center, the free hourly shuttle makes it convenient. The room is comfortable, the breakfast is good, and the reception staff were friendly. However, the Wi-Fi is quite poor and unreliable, which can be frustrating. We also had an unpleasant experience at the restaurant on the evening of March 14, 2026. Due to some difficulty with English, the waiter reacted inappropriately, raising his voice and saying: “He comes to Thailand and doesn’t know how to speak English.” He also mocked our request for food without pepper (“no pepper”).After that, we chose to dine outside for the rest of our stay. All other staff members were polite and professional, and this seemed to be an isolated incident. Apart from these issues, our stay was good, and I believe management should be aware of them.

    Beautiful Location!

    rating14 Jan 2026

The location is amazing! You are like in the middle of the jungle! It’s a bit of a hike up the hill but not bad. It’s nice to stay away from the busier parts of Railay! It’s very peaceful! The staff were very friendly and helpful! We would love to stay here again!

    Fun

    rating06 Nov 2025

The pool is their best feature! Rooms were pretty good. The hotel is on the highest point, you need to take a longtail taxi to reach Railay beach. Just be aware of this. It is fun and adds to the experience. There were ants in the coffee all three times I tried to make a new latte so maybe stay away from their coffee machine.
