    1 star

This place is awful. It's a 1 star hotel. It's filthy and poorly maintained. The food is awful, it's a restricted menu so you end up eating the same food. Breakfast is a joke... Scrambled eggs.. and whatever was left over from the night before reheated. The pools are dirty. The beach is small and not looked after. My advice to anyone is avoid this place

Great place to hide nobody will find you

    rating16 Sept 2024

The room very nice and spacious with a huge balcony. Breakfast was great. All meals were greatThe owner, a woman, the worst. I felt she moved too close to the man I was with. I fell and banged my head and hip coming out of my room because there was a step. I saw light I hit my head so hard. My Apple Watch detected the fall and was ready to alert paramedics. Being in a foreign country I did not want to go to hospital. I told her about the incident and that the step down should be marked. She ignored me for the most part Leslie to go down to the beach is entirely too far. There are at least 100 steps to go from the hotel down to the tiny private beach they have. There is a bar near the beach and they will run up the steps to get you food. I’m from New York. I’m used to a lot of action. This just not enough happening in Tobago for me. I will return there if I happen to be down in Trinidad with some friends otherwise I would not go from New York City to Tobago for vacation.

Authentic, secluded and a very special place.

    rating18 Mar 2024

We booked into a junior penthouse suite at the top of the hill. I am interested in architecture, history and culture and the rustic construction with worn and faded materials appealed to us. Our room was about 40 steps up a steep hillside from the main hotel which is about another 50 steps down to the fabulous and secluded beach. We are in our 70s and lucky enough to be reasonably fit so the climbing was not a problem for us even in 30c heat. The suite was spacious with a massive bed, large balcony and effective AC. The bed linen and towels were top quality, changed daily and super clean. The view from the balcony stunning as were the sunsets. Some of the fixtures and fittings are old worn and original but that is the charm of the place. The hotel even offered us a modern room close to the main hotel in case we did not like our accommodation ! I would recommend using your mobile phone torch when climbing the steps back to your room at night. The hotel staff without exception are the most helpful you will ever meet, nothing was too much trouble. We were half board. The evening meal was not the usual buffet but A la carte and very good indeed although the menu was not extensive but that can be a good thing as the meals were cooked fresh. Breakfasts were adequate and the choice commensurate with the size of a small hotel. A good choice of drinks although the wine is very expensive in my opinion about £40 per bottle, it is also expensive in the local shop. Beer and cocktails are good value. I’ve really want to return to this place, the hotel owners are “ hands on’ eat in the restaurant and are friendly and helpful. This is a very special place!

An excellent hotel with a private beach

    rating15 Feb 2024

An excellent choice if you are looking for an hotel on the Atlantic side of Tobago. It is a comfortable 20 minute walk into Scarborough.Gloria and Rienhard are great hosts and made us feel welcome at Cafe Havana. The accommodation in the older part of the hotel is slightly rustic but beds are extremely comfortable with top class linen and mosquito nets, they do have A/C but we preferred old fashioned fans. Our room had a large verandah to watch the humming birds just yards away in the palm trees. There is a swimming pool outside of the front door. The main reception to the more modern part of the hotel leads down to a lovely beach with a bar, there are two more swimming pools on this side. All in all we had a great stay..... I would recommend.
