This charming hotel is centrally located close to Taksim Square in Istanbul's new town and between Bosporus and the business district.

Facility

The hotel has 388 non-smoking rooms, including 1 single room, which are located on 20 storeys and are reachable by 5 lifts. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a cloakroom, baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service and cash machine. Wireless internet access (for a fee) allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel offers various facilities for guests with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. Rooms

Rooms are equipped with air conditioning and central heating. Most units have a sea view. All rooms are carpeted and have a double bed, a queen-size bed, a king-size bed or a sofa bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Additional features include a mini fridge and a tea/coffee station. Further amenities include an ironing set and a trouser press. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio and WiFi are provided as well. A turndown service offers guests additional comfort. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower and a bathtub. A hairdryer, a vanity mirror, bathrobes and a telephone are available for daily use. For extra comfort in the bathrooms, guests are offered cosmetic products. Guests can also book wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. Family rooms are available for parents with children.

Sport

Guests can work out or just relax in the outdoor and indoor pools. Kids can splash about in a special swimming area just for them. Guests can treat themselves to refreshing drinks at the poolside snack bar and a relaxing soak in the hot tub. A short break or an entire afternoon on the sun terrace, which features sun loungers and parasols, is time well spent. For those who wish to stay active while on holiday, the hotel offers tennis. Sport and leisure facilities at the hotel include a gym, yoga and aerobics.     This was our first visit to Istanbul and unfortunately it’s not somewhere we would choose to return to.The hotel itself is fine—slightly dated, but clean and comfortable. One thing to note is that there is no kettle in the room, so if you enjoy a cup of tea, it’s worth bringing a travel kettle.Service was mixed. The poolside bar staff were particularly disappointing, with long waits for both food and drinks, on one occasion our order was given to another table after an hour and a half wait. In contrast, the pool attendants and the team in the City Lights Bar and Garden Restaurant were excellent.City Lights Bar is definitely worth a visit for the views—they are stunning, however drinks are very expensive. We stayed in room 1802, which also had a fantastic view over the Bosphorus. However, the breakfast service was less impressive, with some disorganisation and a lack of attentiveness.We also encountered a number of challenges outside the hotel. Prices in the area felt very high and we experienced several situations where we felt overcharged. It’s important to be cautious—particularly around Taksim Square—by checking menus carefully and agreeing prices in advance. There are also known street scams (such as shoe-shining), so being aware helps avoid issues.Traffic and driving standards were also a concern. We found driving to be very aggressive, with constant use of horns, and during our airport transfer the driver was using his phone while driving (watching a movie!), which felt unsafe.Finally, we found the food in the immediate area didn’t meet expectations in terms of authenticity, which added to our overall disappointment.Overall, while there were some positives—particularly the views and certain members of staff—we were disappointed with the overall experience.     Pros: 1) excellent location-walkable to Taksim Square and many attractions; 2) helpful and professional staff; 3) excellent sleep quality-comfortable beds, quiet room, beautifully appointed room with attention to detail; 4) clean and expansive pool; 5) well maintained gardens; 6) gorgeous views of the Bosphorus Strait from the 11th floor Rm-1108. Cons: 1) breakfast had large assortment of international items but staff was unable to keep up with demand when the room was full. After asking 3 different staff for coffee, we finally walked over to the staffing area and were eventually served. It was obvious the staff was run off their feet. Management should hire more staff to work the room when the hotel is busy. Aside from this one issue, we were very pleased with our stay. Would return.     We stayed there for several nights prior to a cruise. Its quite dated and needs a good makeover. We were in a suite, so paid reasonable money. For a 5 star hotel you would expect USB ports/chargers and lifts that provided a reasonably efficient service. The buffet breakfast was way over crowded, the servers had little time to attend to matters. Breakfast food selection was extensive, but found it very so so for a 5 star luxury hotel. The receptionist was extremely pleasant and helpful as were the check out folks.     We stayed for one night at the Intercontinental ahead of boarding a cruise in Istanbul. I always think the one thing you can be sure of in a 5 star hotel is a shower with hot running water - not here! The cold water gushed from the shower head, turn the tap to hot and the water stops! After being up for 18hrs and just wanting to shower and sleep we were thoroughly invigorated by our cold showers!! Had we been staying any longer than one night of course management would have moved us. Beware of single night stays and dodgy plumbing.
