The worst hotel experience of my life — avoid this place at all costs

    rating13 Nov 2025

This was without doubt the worst accommodation experience I’ve ever had. When I first arrived, everything looked perfect. The staff was friendly, they even showed me the room before I paid, and since I was with a Turkish friend at check-in, she confirmed in Turkish that the price was for the room, not per person. We had already checked online, and their own website clearly stated that the room was suitable for multiple guests. So far, so good.Everything changed the following night.Another friend came to visit me, and the man at the reception refused to let her come upstairs, saying that guests were “not allowed.” When I asked for an explanation, he said the only way to let her enter was to pay 600 TRY in cash. Not by card — cash only. It was immediately obvious that he was trying to pocket the money personally. When he realized I wasn’t going to pay, he suddenly changed attitude, allowed her to go up, and registered her ID even though she was not staying the night. She left after a couple of hours. The day after, I returned to the hotel with another friend who simply needed to use the bathroom. As my room had four beds, I naturally suggested she could use my bathroom. This time there was a different man at reception — rude, arrogant and dismissive from the first second. He told me that hotel rules “didn’t allow visitors,” and that if someone wanted to stay with me overnight, it would cost 30 euros.I asked him to show me where this rule was written — in Turkish law or in the hotel regulations. He couldn’t show anything. My friend urgently needed the bathroom, so he finally let her go up “just for five minutes.”Later, in a café, I began searching through official Turkish government sources, including the Ministry of Tourism’s guest registration guidelines. Nowhere — absolutely nowhere — does Turkish law state that a hotel can forbid a visitor to enter a room or charge extra for it, especially when the room is clearly booked for more than one person. I found also that according to Turkish Consumer Law (6502), any extra fee must be declared before or during check-in, otherwise it is invalid.I emailed the hotel with screenshots from their own website, legal references, and the official regulations. Their response? They claimed this wasn’t about Turkish law but about “hotel rules.” So I asked again: fine, then show me your hotel rules, in writing, and explain why they weren’t disclosed at check-in. Of course, there was no such document.I even simulated a new booking on their website — nowhere does it mention extra fees for a second person or visitor. My room was advertised and sold as a room for multiple adults. Period. When I returned to the hotel, the same rude man stopped me again, insisting my reservation was “for one person only.” He refused to look at the laws, refused to read the documents, and said he “knew the law better than me.” I asked him to show me anything — a printed regulation, an article, a policy — and he said he did not need to show me anything. At that point, since I’m not naïve, I contacted my Turkish lawyer, who called the hotel and asked them professional, direct questions. Only then did the man at the reception suddenly change attitude and allow my friend to go upstairs, dropping the ridiculous “30 euro fee” entirely. This was a deeply negative experience from start to finish. They tried to scam me for money, fabricated rules on the spot, contradicted their own website, broke consumer protection laws, and embarrassed themselves and the reputation of their country for the sake of 30 euros.Do not stay in this hotel. They will try to take money from you in every possible way, they will change the rules once you’re inside, and they will intimidate you if you question them.Read other reviews — you will see I am not the only one.On top of that, the area around the hotel is full of prostitution 24/7 and feels unsafe.Avoid this place. There are many better options in Istanbul.

The approach of the employees is very good, I felt at home. A historical building in Beyoğlu almost carries the spirit of Istanbul. There is a very comfortable waiting room inside and the comfort of the rooms is very good.

    Terrible service

Terrible service. Pressure to pay 90 EUR for early check-in online, although there was no information about any extra charges in the ad. Dirty room. Very dirty and stinky bathroom. Stained, worn and torn bed sheets and towels. No reaction to our request to fix that. Rude staff.
