A brutal honest review - does not deserve 5 stars.

    rating18 Apr 2026

As always, I give brutally honest reviews. We arrived at the hotel around 11:00 PM. As we pulled up to the entrance, the bellboy asked us to park the car in the parking lot ourselves. My wife's reaction said it all: *"Are we checking into a five-star hotel or a hostel?"*That one sentence set the tone for the entire stay. This property does NOT — and frankly NEVER will — deserve five stars. The furniture throughout the property, the dining area, the food quality and variety: none of it holds up to that standard. The staff, to their credit, do their absolute best. Most of them are genuinely outstanding. But even there, small moments revealed the bigger problem. When we went to the pool and asked for two towels each — one for the sunbed, one for ourselves — the attendant immediately asked: *"How many guests are in your room?"* I was speechless. At any property of this caliber, they would typically take a deposit and charge everything to your card on file. Not here. They chase you around like a three-star budget hotel, credit card machine in hand. Expecting guests to pay by card at the pool bar? Unacceptable. The kids' club staff are fantastic — truly. But two free hours and then a charge per additional hour? For a five-star property, that's an embarrassment. It's not about the 60 AED. It's about the philosophy of service. When I went to use the sauna, I accidentally walked into the female spa area — there are no signs. Once redirected to the male sauna, I arrived to find no towels. I had to walk back again to get one. The sauna itself is small but pleasant and well-maintained. Again: the staff are doing their job. The management is not.Five stars is not a number on a golden plate at your front door. It's a feeling you create. When another guest in a review mentioned there was no welcome drink, I understood exactly what she meant — it's not about the drink. It's about the cumulative experience.Every morning of our stay, we ordered the same thing: *"Eggs Benedict, no salmon, yolk runny."* I'll let you guess how many times they forgot, forcing us to go back inside — only to be served one egg soft and one hard-boiled. After about 30 min waiting time. A chef who cannot make a proper poached egg is a serious problem. On the second evening, my wife found not one but two long black hairs — one in each of two separate dishes — at what I can only describe as a three-star buffet. We left the table immediately and moved to the hotel's Turkish restaurant. My sincere suggestion to management — not the staff — would be to visit the Raffles Palm, where we stayed over Christmas, and observe what a genuine five-star buffet experience and a proper equipped hotel actually looks like. The worst moment came on our final morning. The hotel admitted a large group of young day guests onto the property. The noise level was unbearable. They were pushing children in the pool, and some entered the water in their underwear. It was genuinely appalling. Multiple guests complained, and the situation was eventually addressed — but the damage was done.We retreated from the Retreat back to home. We visited this property twice: once to arrive, and once to leave. There will not be a third time. Not up to standard

    rating11 Apr 2026

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, the service fell short of expectations. We were not even offered any welcoming drinks, which is usually a basic gesture in hotels of this standard. The dinner buffet was very poor — limited variety, low quality, and not up to the level you would expect. It honestly felt like a big letdown. However, I must say that the breakfast was good, and the room itself was comfortable and met expectations. To make matters worse, we had clearly informed the hotel in advance that we were celebrating my birthday. Despite that, there was absolutely no gesture from their side — not even something small to acknowledge the occasion. It made the whole experience feel even more disappointing.Overall, the service and attention to detail were lacking, and I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience. Jason Hollingworth, Owner at The Retreat Palm Dubai MGallery By Sofitel, responded to this review Dear farhaanb2019Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are genuinely sorry that parts of your arrival and the dinner buffet did not meet your expectations, and especially that your birthday was not acknowledged as it deserved to be.We understand how important these moments are, and we regret that we missed the opportunity to make your stay feel truly special. Your feedback has been shared with our team so we can learn from it and ensure better care going forward. We are thankful for your kind words regarding the comfort of your room and your enjoyment of breakfast, and we sincerely hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for a stay that reflects the warmth and attention we strive to offer all our guests. Many Thanks,JASON HOLLINGWORTH | EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT MANAGERThe Retreat Palm Dubai, MGallery Collection
