    Nice hotel/avoid eating in MPW

    rating07 Jun 2026

We have stayed here several times when we have an early flight out of Bristol. This time we were given an upgrade which was very nice although with odd bathroom arrangements. However we will not be staying again as the food in the Marco Pierre White restaurant/bar area was just appalling. My cheese and ham toastie was miserable and cold and my husband's steak sandwich was disgusting and he was up half the night with an upset stomach (not what you need before a flight the next day).

    Best Hotel We’ve Stayed At!

    rating07 Jun 2026

We travelled on this trip as a stop over when visiting family who live in Somerset. The hotel is based perfectly near the M5 and A370 allowing links to Bristol & places such as Weston Super Mare.On arrival, the staff were extremely informative and polite - making us feel welcome at the hotel. We had a Deluxe Family Room and it was amazing, it had a great view, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was well kitted for a family of 3. We dined in the Marco Pierre Steakhouse on the first evening & wow. The Resturaunt was beautiful in every way and the staff were very helpful and service was quick. The food was delightful and not extremely expensive - it is amazing! On the trip, we got locked out of the room & reception was an amazing help. They offered us a cookie for the inconvenience and apologised. The customer service here is genuinely the best we’ve experienced. The breakfast was hot, and there was a good selection of each continental and hot breakfast foods. The selection of drinks was outstanding also. The atmosphere of the hotel is really nice with the gardens surrounding it and the outdoor seating areas near the waterfall. The hotel was extremely clean & the cleanliness levels were outstanding. The area the room was in was quiet and was safe to say, we all slept like babies. The staff in the bar were extremely nice, Freddie and Dylan deserve a huge shoutout as they are easy to chat to & are quick with their service. Emily in office/reception was extremely kind and helped us with some issues we had (through no genuine fault of the hotel) and had outstanding customer service skills. We will be returning to Cadbury House soon & we can’t wait to spend our time in Congresbury here again - we absolutely love it and would recommend highly!

Spa closes 7.45pm at weekend, Dinner rate DOES NOT include full meal, parking £12 per day

    rating30 May 2026

POOL & SPA CLOSES 7.45PM WEEKENDSDINNER RATE DOES NOT INCLUDE A FULL MEALSERVICE CHARGE AUTOMATICALLY ADDED TO EVERYTHING EVEN WHEN VISITING THE BARPARKING AN ADDITIONAL £12 PER DAYPOOLWe booked this hotel as a relaxing May bank holiday break and checked the pool opening times (something we always do because we like to spend the evening there). The Hilton website said it closed at 9pm at the weekend which was a bit early but figured that was ok.I attach a screen print from my phone I took whilst there and another from the website taken when I got home - clearly stating this, however when we got there we were given a piece of paper advising it closes at 8pm - but even that isn't true because you actually get kicked out at 7.45pm which is beyond ridiculous for an alleged SPA hotel. Had we known it was closing at 7.45pm we would have gone somewhere else.DINNERA stay like this is a considered purchase for us as we are not rich people so we always try to book with breakfast and dinner if we can because at least then we know we don't have to spend more money when we are there. In our experience you can always get something like fish & chips etc and we are not fussy eaters so that has always worked out for us.Here however is something sneaky I have thankfully never seen before - the dinners available do not include a full meal (unless you want steak frites).I attach the starter & main meal menu's, the options you can have on this rate is only the ones that have the small brown shape (so 5 mains in total) and the other 4 do not come with anything else (no chips, potato's or rice), therefore forcing you to additionally purchase something else.I attach photo's of the Grilled chicken with tomato vinaigrette & the Chargrilled pork ribeye.I should say at this point, this is not a complaint about the food itself, we ate there 3 nights, food was delicious each time and nice quality, my gripe is that when you book dinner you expect a full meal - and that is not what you get! What you see on those plates is what is considered a meal!!!!Someone near us booked the wheelers fishcake (looks like a large scotch egg) and was querying where her chips or potatoes are and was told that because it has potato in it - it is considered a meal! You will note that EVERYTHING else on the menu not available on the deal comes with chips or potatoes etc so this is nothing short of a deliberate con to force you spend further money. What we did in the end was order an included starter (the farmhouse salad is very nice) and ask for it to arrive with the main. Also to add, you can order the other items on the menu - but you only have a £30 allowance so you are no better of!Breakfast also needs a mention because unlike the dinners, they left a lot to be desired. We have been using Hilton for many years and their breakfasts used to be the one to beat, however, whilst there was still a good range of items available, the quality has gone down hill. The sausages & bacon were bland and very average, the muffins were floury & tasteless and croissants were dry & boring.SERVICE CHARGEService charges are automatically added without asking. Now I have obviously seen that in the past, however at no point are you advised of this but the main reason for my gripe is that you are also charged it when you go to the bar in person. This came to light because one bar person charged less and when the next round was more expensive we were told it was a mistake previously - we then heard another bar person discussing that this was "my tip".A few additional points to addThe hotel itself is very nice, our room (4th floor) was beautiful and spa area is lovely, so it's not all bad!If like us you need to watch your pennies, whatever price you get the room for, you need to add an additional £12 per day for paid parking. The check in time is very late at 4pm.CHECK YOUR BILL WHEN YOU CHECK OUT - when we checked out, I "double checked" nothing was added to our bill, and it's a good job I did because although we were on the Dinner, Bed & Breakfast rate, they had added 1 days worth of our restaurant bill to the invoice - and added a service charge to that! This is our 3rd Hilton stay that has left a lot to be desired in one way or another. We use them because we have done for many years, it was a name we trusted and felt you knew what you were getting, sadly those days are gone and we have used a few independent hotels in recent years that are providing the service they used to (never been kicked out of a spa hotel pool at 7.45pm anywhere else!), so sadly we now feel it is time to leave the Hilton brand behind as they are not what they once were! Cadbury House, Sales at DoubleTree by Hilton Cadbury House, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.Whilst we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your room, the spa facilities and the quality of the food served in our restaurant, we are sorry that aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Our website does advise that spa opening times may vary during Bank Holiday periods, however we appreciate your disappointment regarding the hours available during your stay. We are also sorry that you felt the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package inclusions were not clearly communicated and will review this feedback with the relevant teams. We regret that breakfast did not meet your expectations. We also note your comments regarding service charges and parking fees, both of which are advertised within our menus, website and guest communications. Finally, please accept our apologies for the billing error identified at checkout. This should not have occurred, and we will be addressing this internally with the team.Thank you again for your feedback, which helps us continually review and improve the guest experience.
