Nice enough hotel with some downsides

    rating03 Jun 2026

This is a nice hotel, probably targeting younger folks, and offering some fun activities and lounge spaces in its lobby. We found the hotel to be clean and well positioned for our activities, though thought it was someone on the edge of Merchant City instead of being in the center. It was an easy enough walk with a slight hill to climb to get to the hotel. The rooms are modestly sized, but not overly cramped. We were on a 1 week long trip. So we’re able to find space for our luggage. One thing to note though, is that there is no closet and only 2 small hooks to hang things on. Our biggest issue was the temperature in our room. We stayed on the 4th floor in early June. The temperature outside was in the low 60s (F). It rained on many of the days of our visit. But the temperature on the room was typically 25 degrees (C) or 77 degrees (F) every morning. We actually found that it ranged between 75-77 during our entire visit. No matter what we did, we were unable to lower the temperature. We eventually asked for a fan, hoping that some moving air would help (since opening the window didn’t help at all). Either there was no AC or the main unit was not turned on, so only the blower unit was working. A small sign next to the thermostat indicated that the hotel cools the room in the summer and heats it in the winter, and suggests opening the window if an adjustment is needed. We initially thought the sign was just fun, but came to have different feelings about it a couple days into our stay. . Myra McKillop, General Manager at Moxy Glasgow Merchant City, responded to this review Hey Joglaley1,Thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed review following your stay with us!We're delighted to hear you enjoyed our playful lobby spaces, found the hotel clean, and that our location worked well as a base for exploring Glasgow. Merchant City certainly keeps things lively, and we're glad you were able to make the most of it.We appreciate your comments regarding the room layout. Moxy rooms are designed with a smart, minimalist approach, but we understand that guests staying a little longer may prefer additional storage options. We're sorry to hear that the room temperature wasn't quite to your liking during your visit. Comfort is incredibly important to us, and while our system operates seasonally, we appreciate that everyone's ideal room temperature is different. We're pleased our Crew were able to provide a fan, although we're sorry this didn't fully improve your experience. Thanks again for sharing your feedback. Reviews like yours help us keep improving and ensure future stays are even better. We hope to welcome you back to Moxy Glasgow Merchant City for another adventure soon!Cheers,

    Dont stay here

    rating24 May 2026

Group booked hotel. Not safe for women as no phone in the room. If you have any issues you have to get dressed and go downstairs to talk to someone. The showers like all modern hotels are dreadful and not just the black mould in mine. Those leaky useless plastic hand helds that either blast you in the face or shower the wall. Its like all hotels got together to decide to make the guest experience worse. Also you need yo go outside the tiny bathroom to change your mind. No safe in room, no fridge and AC that wont go below 24.5 degrees. Not what you want after a long day, week or month of travel. Stay somewhere else. Myra McKillop, General Manager at Moxy Glasgow Merchant City, responded to this review Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that Moxy wasn't quite your style. As a brand, we do things a little differently, with a streamlined room design and a focus on our social spaces, but we understand that this approach isn't for everyone. We would, however, like to reassure future travellers that the safety and security of our guests is always a top priority. Our hotel operates with a 24/7 staffed front desk, secure guest room access, CCTV in public areas, and team members available around the clock to assist whenever needed. We welcome solo travellers, groups, families, and business guests throughout the year, and work hard to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe during their stay. We're particularly disappointed to read your comments regarding the condition of the shower, as this is not the standard we strive for. Your feedback has been shared with the relevant teams for review. We also appreciate your comments regarding the room temperature and room amenities. Moxy rooms are intentionally designed to be simple and functional, though we recognise that different travellers have different preferences and requirements.Thank you again for your review. We wish you safe and happy travels wherever your next adventure takes you.Cheers,

Lack of customer service and Empathy

    rating13 May 2026

We stayed at the Moxy Merchant City Glasgow in October 2025 and unfortunately experienced something that was deeply upsetting and has still never been properly resolved.During our stay, a different housekeeper serviced our room and left it in a poor condition, with rubbish left on the floor and our belongings carelessly moved around. Shortly afterwards, my daughter’s stuffed elephant, “Ellie,” disappeared from the room. While this may sound insignificant to some people, this toy had been with her for 18 years and was irreplaceable in sentimental value. What disappointed us most was the response from both the hotel and Marriott. Instead of showing genuine empathy or taking the matter seriously, we were effectively offered £30 and later Bonvoy points, as though reward points could replace something with enormous emotional value. Phrases such as “sorry for the inconvenience” only added to the feeling that the situation was being trivialised.I work within a venue that includes a hotel and have responsibilities involving health, safety, and security, so I understand the standards expected in hospitality. Seeing personal belongings on housekeeping trolleys and witnessing careless handling of guest property was concerning and unprofessional. This review is not about money or compensation. It is about accountability, professionalism, and respect for guests and their belongings. The handling of this situation left us feeling dismissed and unheard, and despite formal correspondence, we have still not received a meaningful response from management.Very disappointing experience from a brand we expected far better from.A hotel stay can be replaced. Sentimental memories cannot.Customer service is judged most when something goes wrong — and this was handled terribly. Myra McKillop, General Manager at Moxy Glasgow Merchant City, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We were sorry to learn of the distress caused by the missing stuffed elephant and fully appreciate the sentimental value that personal items can hold. When this matter was reported to us, our team carried out a thorough investigation, including searches of the guest room, housekeeping areas, lost property records, and laundry processes. At the time of the investigation, it could not be confirmed whether the toy had been brought to the hotel, and unfortunately no evidence was found to indicate that it had been present in the room or removed by a member of our team. While we understand your disappointment, we would like to clarify that any goodwill gesture offered was intended as a sincere acknowledgement of the upset caused by the situation rather than a reflection of the value of the item itself. We are also disappointed to read comments suggesting that associates handled guest belongings carelessly. We take the security and privacy of our guests' possessions extremely seriously, and our investigation found no evidence to support these assumptions.Although we were unable to reach the outcome you had hoped for, please be assured that the matter was thoroughly reviewed by both the hotel and Marriott teams. We regret that you were left feeling dissatisfied with the process and communication provided.Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we wish you and your family all the best.Kind regards,

Briar is an exceptional member of front of house staff.

    rating04 May 2026

Briar, on reception, was outstanding in her service to us. We had various problems such as broken shower gel and the TV freezing and she helped both times. If you book through the Marriot (we didn't realise this) there is a discount for Senior Citizens and it's better value for money than going through a booking website. The location was excellent - Aldi close by, 'Hop on Hop off' bus close by, walkable to all the attractions in Merchant City such as Avant Garde and several restaurants. Also walkable to the Scotia pub. Myra McKillop, General Manager at Moxy Glasgow Merchant City, responded to this review Hey 744Mirandam ,What a fantastic review – thank you for sharing it!We're absolutely delighted to hear that Briar helped make your stay a great one. We'll be sure to pass along your kind words, as we know she'll be thrilled to hear that her friendly and proactive service made such a positive impression. It's also great to know that you enjoyed our location in the heart of Merchant City. With so many attractions, restaurants, shops and local gems within walking distance, it really is the perfect base for exploring Glasgow.Thank you as well for highlighting the benefits of booking directly through Marriott. We always encourage guests to check our direct rates and offers to ensure they're getting the best value available. We loved having you stay with us and hope to welcome you back to Moxy Glasgow Merchant City again soon for another fun-filled visit. Best regards,
