    Didn’t recognize my Platinum status

    rating07 Jun 2026

As an airline pilot with a major carrier, I have no idea what my company was charged for this room, so I can only review the experience as a guest. The hotel's location is excellent and extremely convenient for aircrews arriving late at night. Given its proximity to a major airport hub, midnight and after-midnight check-ins are routine. Unfortunately, there was only one front desk employee available to check in more than a dozen guests when I arrived shortly after midnight. To her credit, she worked diligently and professionally to accommodate everyone, including several crew members whose rooms had not yet been assigned. The room itself was clean, reasonably spacious, and generally comfortable. The air conditioning was already running when I arrived and did an acceptable job keeping the room cool, although it was noticeably loud throughout the night. Overall, the accommodations were adequate but unremarkable.Ordinarily, I would rate a property like this three stars—a fair score for a fairly average hotel experience. However, I am giving it two stars because of the hotel's policy regarding Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite benefits. The hotel's website advertises a club lounge available to Platinum Elite members and above. After the front desk agent finished assisting the long line of guests, she informed me that the hotel does not honor elite benefits for airline crew members because we are "not paying customers." While I understand not receiving points or stay credit on a company-paid reservation, I personally earned and maintain my Platinum status through my own travel and spending. I was still a registered guest occupying a room at the hotel.Denying elite benefits solely because the reservation was booked by an employer feels less like a policy issue and more like a cost-saving measure. In this case, it appears the hotel would rather withhold benefits than provide something as simple as lounge access and a complimentary breakfast. That was disappointing and ultimately lowered my overall impression of the property. The hotel is convenient, clean, and functional, but the unwillingness to recognize loyal Bonvoy members staying on company business leaves a poor lasting impression. General Manager, General Manager at Sheraton Detroit Metro Airport, responded to this review Dear Marc,Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback. We are glad that our location, cleanliness, and the professionalism of our front desk team members under demanding circumstances made a positive impression. However, we are disappointed to hear about the experience with elite benefits, as recognizing the personal loyalty of our Platinum Elite members is something we take seriously. Your feedback will be shared with our management team, and we hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a stay that better reflects the recognition your loyalty deserves.

Excellent service, clean facilities, spacious room.

    rating19 May 2026

I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I will admit that I was initially hesitant about booking an airport hotel, but it turned out to be an excellent experience. The hotel has a very open design with soaring ceilings, and most rooms overlook the lobby, restaurant, and pool area regardless of floor level. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming rather than crowded or transactional like many airport hotels. The room itself was very clean and spacious. The towels were bright white and plush, and the bed included a variety of pillow firmness options, which was a thoughtful touch. The sink area had refillable bottles of hand soap and lotion with a light, pleasant scent that was not overpowering. I also appreciated the reduction in waste compared to single-use products. The bed linens were impeccably arranged and gave the room the feel of a much higher-end hotel. Transportation to the airport was also very efficient. There were two separate shuttles servicing the terminals, and it took only about six minutes to reach mine. Even better, the driver proactively helped everyone with their luggage, which unfortunately is not always the case with airport shuttles.Breakfast at the lobby restaurant was reasonably priced, and the portions were generous. Most importantly, every staff member I encountered — from the front desk to the restaurant team — was consistently friendly and professional.Overall, this stay completely changed my perspective on airport hotels. Staying here the night before an early flight was far less stressful than staying downtown, waking up extremely early, and worrying about traffic delays.I was also coming from a not-so-pleasant hotel experience elsewhere, so I kept thinking “Finally, Marriott quality at a very good price.” Then I thought — wait, this is a Sheraton!

    Sunny Sky with some Rain

    rating27 Apr 2026

The Sun. Arrived late after missed connection. Front desk was both friendly and professional and gave a welcome as from an old friend. Made the last call for dinner and ate at the bar with a sharp, helpful bartender. Prices seemed sorta high but then noticed the Rueben sandwich. The bartender suggested replacing the chips with a Cesar salad for only $3 more totaling $20. The meal was large and perfect and I ended up with 1/2 the sandwich as a take-home. Also had a Manhattan, which used a good whiskey and prepared and tasted perfect. The Rain. I was upgraded to the Club Floor. Having just stayed at the near perfect Marriott Marquis in Washington DC, I thought I knew what to expect for a free breakfast in the Club Room. Wrong. The "free" Club breakfast offered paper coffee cups, no de-caf coffee, no meats or bread and Sysco scrambled eggs and diced potatoes. Quite honestly, the free breakfast at a Hampton or Fairview is better - and it's not good either. More Sun. The room was nice, updated, fridge, decent view on the top floor, and quite inexpensive. Shuttle service to DTW runs every 20 minutes and was on time. Overall the hotel is nice but skip the "free" member breakfast. For an extra $12 you get the buffet and it looked well stocked. (Restaurant and bar is an outside entity.)

    Distasteful service

    rating18 Apr 2026

Whoever the gentleman was downstairs (at the front desk) that was extremely loud and rude to our group, should be terminated! Absolutely no excuse for his behavior. I do hope we get a contract elsewhere. In no way is that how you treat guest. The shuttle is ALWAYS late, and then they blame you, when you were there early. (Simply put, They just never showed up)I am so appalled over this man’s behavior and could write much more but time isn’t allotted. General Manager, General Manager at Sheraton Detroit Metro Airport, responded to this review Dear Calais,Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. It’s concerning to read about your experience, as interactions with our team and reliable transportation are such an important part of a stay. The level of service described is not reflective of the standards we aim to provide, and your feedback is taken seriously. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and hope to have the opportunity to deliver a much-improved experience in the future.

Overnight stay before flying out of DTW

    rating18 Apr 2026

The Sheraton has an excellent place to stay when flying out of DT W! We travel from approximately two hours away and for an early morning flight, staying nearby is extremely beneficial. The Sheraton staff are all extremely friendly and hospitable. The accommodations are clean and easy to navigate. Large parking lot for staying/parking overnight. We utilized the shuttle to DTW and left our cars in the parking lot for the week. This was extremely helpful! We would definitely stay at the Sheraton again!
