    Value and Location

    rating06 Mar 2026

Felt like a step back for in time. This hotel is charming, well maintained, impeccably clean and all staff make you feel welcome. Part of my stay was using a room in the conference center. I travel about 40 weeks a year to all parts of the US and stay in various hotel chains. I have NEVER received this great of service. jaytakamiya, at 'Ilima Hotel, responded to this review Aloha Kim B,Thanks for taking time to comment on your recent stay at the 'Ilima. Modest hotel, reasonably priced

    rating16 Feb 2026

Well located modest hotel a few blocks from the beach. The room is serviceable, nothing fancy. We had a two-bedroom, one bath unit, which also had a separate living area with dining table and kitchenette and a small balcony. The noise from nearby hotels and residences was a real challenge, with partying until 3:00 in the morning. A good choice if you are on a budget and are comfortable with clean, adequate facilities. Bring earplugs. Jay Takamiya, General Manager at 'Ilima Hotel, responded to this review Aloha SPTraveler18,We appreciate the honest feedback and would like to sincerely apologize for the noise from the surrounding area; being in the heart of the action sometimes comes with unwanted volume. We’re currently exploring options to help dampen the exterior noise to ensure a better night's rest for our guests. Thank you for staying with us!Mahalo,Jay Takamiya, GM

Long stay with kids — major sleep and air quality issues

    rating29 Dec 2025

We stayed at Ilima Hotel for 7 nights as a family with kids. While the hotel itself is clean and functional, the nighttime noise and air quality issues made the stay very difficult. Our room was facing the White Sands Hotel, which runs a night club/disco. Loud music started every night around 8:30 PM and often continued until 2:00 AM. We were on the 5th floor, and the sound carried clearly into the room because the windows are not soundproof. Our kids struggled to sleep, and on some nights people outside were screaming or shouting, likely intoxicated.Another serious concern was weed smoke. People nearby were openly smoking, and the AC system pulled the smell into our room, making it uncomfortable to breathe and unsafe for small children. This happened multiple times during our stay.We reported these issues to the hotel staff. The only solution offered was a paid room upgrade to move elsewhere. There was no acknowledgment that this is a known issue, even though several other reviews mention the same loud music problem. Given the length of our stay, this lack of support was disappointing. We were sleep-deprived for much of the trip, which took away from what should have been a relaxing vacation. A hotel room should at least allow for a good night’s sleep. The hotel charges a $47 per night resort fee. We mostly used beach towels, but on Christmas Day there were no beach towels available, making that day’s resort fee feel wasted.Other notes:Parking is on floors 1–3; guest rooms start on floor 4 — the night club is at that same levelThe hotel was clean and reasonably maintainedThe kitchenette was helpful for cooking or reheating foodBeds were not very comfortable, but manageableLaundry is available ($4 washer, $4 dryer, $1 detergent)Parking appears to be free and first-come-first-serve (we didn’t use it)Bottom line:Ilima Hotel may work for short stays if noise isn’t a concern, but families or longer stays should be very cautious, especially if the room faces White Sands Hotel. The ongoing noise and smoke issues significantly impacted our experience. Jay Takamiya, General Manager at 'Ilima Hotel, responded to this review Aloha immupari,Thank you for sharing your experience. We sincerely apologize for the sleep disruptions and the inconvenience regarding the beach towels on Christmas Day. Your comments regarding the noise from the neighboring property and the AC system have been shared as we work on improving the overall value and guest experience. We appreciate your stay and your honest feedback.Mahalo,Jay Takamiya, GM

Penthouse is amazing for large families!

    rating15 Dec 2025

We stayed in the penthouse with three families and it was perfect! The bigger room had a king and queen with its own bathroom and a sink so was great for my son’s family with three small kids. A Real Find in Waikīkī

    rating11 Aug 2025

A fine hotel had a great price in a great location. Located just a few steps away from a dozen excellent restaurants and Waikiki Beach! Well, it’s not the Ritz but it is scrupulously clean, very comfortable and has a very friendly staff, all at a darn good price for Waikiki. Free parking in the adjacent garage, as well! Our room had two double beds, a 55 inch TV, a four chair table and kitchenette with a large refrigerator. Pots, pans, dishes and silverware, too. A nice balcony overlooked the city for an added touch. This is a great hotel for a family that would be hemmed in with most chain hotels. Jay Takamiya, General Manager at 'Ilima Hotel, responded to this review Aloha nicklA7806UQThanks for taking time to comment on your stay at 'Ilima Hotel. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that our accommodations and amenities met your needs. We are glad that our staff welcomed you in the true Aloha spirit. We hope you will tell your friends about us and look forward to welcoming you again on your next trip to sunny Waikiki.Jay Takamiya, GM
