The Worst Marriott Experience I've Ever Had

    rating06 Jan 2026

I hate to have to do this but too many things happened during our stay to not leave a review. We checked in here last minute on Saturday, December 20 staying through Saturday, December 27, as our previous family accommodations fell through. I wasn’t expecting a 5-star hotel given the price and hotel chain, but I’ve stayed in Marriott-affiliated hotels for years as I’m a former travel consultant. We just wanted somewhere to rest comfortably for the Christmas week. That said, this experience failed in multiple ways to live up to the Marriott standard. Upon arrival, the lobby was filled with fans because the A/C there was broken so it was hot and murky. No issue as we weren’t staying in the lobby, just not all that pleasing to have loud fans blasting. I swipe my card and they tell me it’s going to be blocked due to fraud protection and it happens all the time apparently. Why this known issue hasn’t been resolved on their end is beyond me. I tell my bank it’s me, re-swipe, and we get our keys to our room. I try to connect to the Wi-Fi and it’s not connecting at all. I ask the front desk for an access code, only to be told the Wi-Fi doesn’t work, not even the paid option. We’re told we have to use the hotel public Wi-Fi, which is very slow and decides when it wants to connect, and also only lasts for 6 hours before requiring a reconnection (where you must go through the browser prompts to accept the Wi-Fi, then exit that prompt, and THEN try again for it to connect). To just take a breather and rest and relax, we take showers to wind down. Showers are fine, but the bathroom is so poorly ventilated that steam doesn’t escape and therefore soaks everything in the bathroom, and not just regular steam on the mirror from a standard shower. EVERYTHING is soaked, from the sink to the toilet to the door. New towels are required as they all are basically used now because of this, my meds have now been dampened and melted despite being in a weekly container, the toilet paper is damp, and there is water everywhere. Tried turning on the TV, and that doesn’t work. Tried using the phone to mention any of these issues to the front desk, and the phone doesn’t work either. On top of this, our door would not shut unless we pulled it close really hard, which is a HUGE safety concern had we not noticed it the first day. Again, not expecting a 5-star experience, but these are very basic needs of a hotel stay that aren’t being met. Don’t get me wrong, some of these are things that I can live without, but if they’re offered, they should be available. The juice machine for continental breakfast was broken and we couldn’t even get hot water for the tea that was offered.Everything was bleh for a few days (we stayed as we knew it would be nearly impossible to get new accommodations during the holiday), then fast forward to Christmas morning, and I wake up to a ROACH ON MY HEADBOARD. I go to the front desk for a new room. They didn’t hassle me about it at all, gave me a new room with no issue, and within minutes after a manager from a neighboring hotel came to help the hostess (she was new so she didn’t know how to fully work the system yet). We make the switch, and we try to take a shower to check the ventilation here, only for the water to not come on at all. Turns out, there is work being done on the water systems, and it was began without warning. Was told to check back on it in an hour. That was first reported at 10 am. The water wasn’t available again until 4:30 pm. We tried the showers that night and guess what? Same poor ventilation.I left here the day after Christmas, and my pregnant girlfriend and her son tried to check out a day early, only to be told they couldn’t check her out because we wouldn’t be charged for the last day of the stay. I’m not even sure if that’s legal honestly. Attempted to get refunded for my stay via Bonvoy and Expedia and was only offered a partial 3-day refund. I had to go to my bank to get an additional case started since apparently, the quality of living in this hotel is negotiable.Needless to say, we definitely won’t ever be coming back here.

    Bait and switch

    rating21 Oct 2025

I booked a one night stay at this hotel a few hours before arriving to check-in. On arriving at the hotel the front desk manager who explained that due to IT system outage unable to book anyone into room rooms thus the hotel was completely deserted. I was offered a room at one of their sister properties which on review was a hotel in a sketchy location. Front desk did admit that they had requested The property be removed from online advertisements but It appears greed had got the best of management, so they felt it was appropriate to bait consumers by offering a hotel that they had no intention whatsoever to provide. Front desk reassured me that once online they would make contact with property management and arrange authorization for a refund via the third-party website that I booked through. Since then, the properties guest relations team have refused to give that authorization since they think a hotel of lesser quality satisfies their contractual obligations. For absolutely clarity in the state of Texas it does not I have since filed a chargeback with my credit card company, file filed a complaint with the office of the Better Business Bureau for South Texas, and a complaint with the attorney general‘s office for consumer protection in the state of Texas. I have also made Marriott aware of this franchisees behavior in regards to this matter. Hotel management should do better.

    Close to the airport

    rating01 Oct 2025

The Fairfield by Marriot was clean and quiet. The outer area of the hotel was not kept very clean and needs some updating. It is close to the airport and has easy access. The room was comfortable.

Please don’t waste your money - disgrace to Marriott brand

    rating08 Jul 2025

We chose this hotel because we can always count on breakfast for our young daughter. When we booked there was no indication that breakfast was not available due to some “remodeling/work”. A small sign at front desk at check-in was what we saw. The front desk person didn’t even say anything about it during check in process, I had to inquire to find out. Since it was too late to find another Marriott property without being charged for this one we had no choice but to stay. The associate said we could walk to the Four Points Sheraton next door to utilize their breakfast. A huge inconvenience with kids. The next morning went to Sheraton and it was horrible! Cold coffee, handful of hard boiled eggs and a couple choices of dry cereal. Looked like there may have been some bread or bagels but it was empty as well as the empty container for milk for the dry cereal. The front desk person at Sheraton had his perhaps girlfriend on speaker phone the entire time complaining about how tired he was from working. Everyone heard his conversation and it was very unprofessional to say the least. I will also note that walking into the Fairfield Inn you were immediately hit with a damp musty smell in the air. I am extremely disappointed in the stay at this Fairfield Inn. Needless to say we had to incur additional out of pocket monies to buy breakfast for my family the next morning as I would not return to the Sheraton next store. As a Bonvoy member I pay good hard earned money to stay at this chain and choose hotels that offer conveniences for my family. This hotel fell short in many ways and I used my Bonvoy points for a very disappointing stay. We honestly couldn’t wait to check out. Sent email to Marriott regarding these concerns and nothing has been done to compensate us for this horrendous stay. Marriott should be ashamed to attach their name to this hotel.

    Totally subpar place

    rating23 Jun 2025

The rooms aren’t terrible…. Clean enough,.. but the customer service is garbage. They barely acknowledge you when asking a question. Got up in the morning and no breakfast. Can tolerate that,. But NOT EVEN COFFEE SERVED??! First time I’ve ever seen this in any hotel…. And believe me, we stay in many. This place sucks…. Really.
