    Winter visit in Kansas City

    rating05 Jan 2025

This is a conveniently located hotel that has an historic feel to it. Each queen room has a kitchenette. The queen rooms are weirdly arranged - the kitchenette is small without any real convenience (no cutlery/plates), the bathroom is tiny. The beds face directly across from each other. The shower didn’t have any shelves for soap or shampoo, and the shower curtain was too small - so when taking a shower, the bathroom flooded. The beds were comfortable and the place was clean. The breakfast was basic for this kind of hotel (egg beaters, toast). My reasoning for the poor review - there’s no WiFi except in the lobby. Apparently their WiFi is an issue - the maintenance man, Alex, was very helpful in trying to accommodate us. No one else seemed to care. Using WiFi for our laptops on trips is crucial for us. We were inconvenienced by having to go to the lobby to use the WiFi. Apparently their router was malfunctioning (a common problem we were informed), and the manager wouldn’t pay to have someone come fix it. Alex was able to get the WiFi working only on the 5th floor (besides the lobby). So we requested to be moved (we were staying 3 days) on the final night of our stay they agreed to move us. The new room on the 5th floor smelled like wet dog. No ‘sorry for your experience’ or even acknowledging this is an issue. Except for Alex, who genuinely seemed concerned for our inconvenience. The parking is $20/night - they wouldn’t even comp us the parking for this lack of WiFi inconvenience. And when booking, the hotel listed free parking. There is only 1 ice machine on the 1st floor. The elevator is slow. The main entrance has stairs - not sure if there’s another option for mobility impaired or wheelchair access. With all the hotels available in Kansas City, I say skip this disaster and book elsewhere. Sophia Stewart, Agency / Consultant at Quality Inn and Suites Kansas City Downtown, responded to this review Dear Guest,We regret the numerous issues you experienced during your stay. This is certainly not the level of service we strive for, Your detailed feedback is valuable. We would like to mention that the parking fee is clearly outlined on our website. So we are sorry if you missed them during the booking. We hope to serve better next time!

Cops, Coffee, and Calamity | Why We'll Never Stay At Quality Inn Again

    rating03 Nov 2023

My wife and I travel a ton for work and are used to having great hotel stays and not so great hotel stays. But this one was just downright unique...and not in a good way.We decided we'd take the kids to see the Chiefs vs. Broncos game in October. Checking in was easy and we enjoyed seeing all the red Chiefs gear that all the other guests were proudly displaying. We asked for and received an early check-in. Which was very helpful. This allowed us to drop off some bags to make more room for the tailgating supplies. The goal was to drive into town, drop our luggage off at the hotel, and hit Arrowhead's parking lot ASAP to get the tailgating started. This was our children's first game and we wanted to show them the whole fun experience. Walking into the room was odd, the only door in our "two-bedroom suite" was the bathroom door. The bed in one room was arranged so the person lying in the other room's bed looked directly at one another. We quickly realized it was a good thing we all brought PJs as there is zero privacy in this room. If we were with another couple, this would have been really awkward and unacceptable. This is the first hotel we've stayed at that the room's walls were completely empty. No pictures, no fire escape path photo, no nothing. It was a little bizarre and not at all an impressive-looking room. When we got back from the game, that is when the nightmare began. First, there were no parking stalls available and we had to park off campus. You cannot tell if stalls are available until you are physically in the lot. Clearly, the other cars were also not aware there were no parking spaces so we all became stuck in a line in the lot. This went on for about 30 minutes until everyone could back out safely. Once we found an off-campus spot, we went into the room. Before leaving for the game, we turned the AC down to 68. When we arrived in the room it was 77. We learned the single AC/Heat vent is located in such a way that it bounces off the wall of the small cutout, a 4ft hallway, and does not circulate the air. So, we were already up for a hot night. Twenty minutes after we got into bed, around midnight, our neighbor began slamming their door and continued to do so for an hour. At 1 a.m. I spoke to him and told him to stop. He advised his door would not shut, and that he told the front desk, and they did not fix it. I tried to call the front desk but our room's phone did not work. So, I got fully dressed and walked down to the front desk I asked the front desk clerk to solve the problem. He said he would.Once upstairs, I again got ready for bed and then the door slamming started up again. At 1:30 a.m., I again got dressed and told them to stop slamming the door. They did for a short while. At 2 a.m., it started up again. I again got out of bed and tried the phone to call the front desk as I had forgotten it didn't work. I travel so much, that my muscle memory told me the phone would of course work. It didn't. So, I got fully dressed and went to the front desk and complained. The front desk clerk said he would speak with our next-door neighbors. I reminded him that he told me the same thing an hour ago. He suggested he get his manager and that I wait. So, I waited around for the manager to be awoken. He came to the front desk and stated he would address the issue. I asked for a refund. He stated as long as we turned in our key cards we would be refunded. I went upstairs and waited for the manager to arrive and address the issue. Keep in mind, if you are talking in the hallway everyone in their rooms can clearly hear the conversation. I should add that while in bed, the front door's threshold is so poorly constructed that there is a full-inch gap on all four sides of the door. The gap is so large, that you can clearly see anything in the front room without the aid of a light source as the light from the hallway pours into our room like the wall-bursting scene in Ghostbusters. So, if you happen to rent this room in the future, bring a sleeping mask. We had enough and were packing our bags to leave when we heard the police banging on the neighbor's door. We heard one officer tell another to "get the shield higher". Apparently, the neighbor's phone did work and the manager called them instead of speaking with them in person. Someone mentioned a gun which caused the manager to phone 911 and the police came in fully prepared. We heard them yell at the male guest to "stop resisting" and we heard the unmistakable sounds of handcuffs being placed on someone. The next thirty minutes we were treated to the sounds of quick packing and conversation by the police and the female guest as she leaned up against our door to talk to them. So, we got to hear everything as if they were standing in our room. Our room was the last one in the hallway. In order for us to leave, we would have to ask the officers and neighbors to move out of our way. Rather than bother them when they were focused on where the gun was. We stayed put in the room, a bit trapped, and still very angry. By the time they left, it was nearly 4 a.m. finally quiet, and we were in no shape to drive long distances. We all tried to get a few hours of sleep before our 4-hour drive. Two weeks later, we received our refund. As for the room, for some unknown reason, there are no doors in this "2 bedroom" hotel room. Who has a hotel room with multiple bedrooms and only two doors inside of it? One on the bathroom and the front entrance. The person sleeping on one bed is looking directly at the person sleeping on the other bed, in another "room". It was very odd and unpleasant. The sole AC/Heat vent is in a cutout in the room and does not circulate the air. The beds are lying on top of slick plastic which causes the mattress to move each time you get onto it. We also found it very odd that the room had zero decorations. Most rooms have hanging photos of some sort. Lastly, the curtains were broken and outdated. In the morning, we left at 9 am to find there was no coffee due to their machine being broken and the breakfast food was all gone. So, that too was odd and a perfect topping for the trip. In conclusion, we travel 1-3 times a month and this is THE worst experience we've ever had and it's not even close. We will never consider staying here again and fully regret making the initial decision to stay here. Minus the police and the arrest, the room was still nowhere near acceptable. So, use this for what it's worth. Also, if anyone cares, the neighbors were Broncos fans. Hard to describe this one...

    rating30 Oct 2023

Kind of a mid-grade hotel, but close to downtown activities. I rented a 3 bedroom suite. Ok... it had three beds and a kitchenette. I guess that makes it a suite...ish.The main area had one bed and a sofabed. The other two "bedrooms" were just walled spaces with a closet, a tv and windows. No doors! I think definition of bedroom is to assume the room has a door.We were tired from travelling, and had noise generators, so it wasnt a big deal. However, if people rented this room type thinking there would be privacy, think again. On a positive note: the breakfast was good, and if you stand in the hallway you can catch a contact high from the ganja being enjoyed on the property. Might make your food more enjoyable??I might stay here again with these issues in mind, but probably would at least bring pressure rods and curtains to put in the door frames. Michael Finnegan, General Manager at Quality Inn and Suites Kansas City Downtown, responded to this review Dear bw21157,Thank you for your candid feedback. We appreciate your acknowledgment of our hotel's convenient location. We apologize if our 'suite...ish' accommodations fell short of your expectations. Rest assured, we're taking notes and taking steps to ensure all rooms meet the standard definition of a bedroom – doors included. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed our breakfast spread, although we regret any unwanted 'aromas' you might have encountered during your stay. We're working diligently to maintain a fresh atmosphere throughout the property, so future visits are as enjoyable as possible. We hope you'll give us another chance in the future. And if you decide to grace us with your presence again, please don't hesitate to bring those pressure rods and curtains – it could add a touch of privacy to your stay.Warm regards,MichaelHotel Manager

    Good, Average Hotel

    rating11 Oct 2023

Five friends came to KC for four days of intensive barbecue eating. This Quality Inn was well-situated for the BBQ joints we wanted to visit. From previous reviewers, we knew not to expect too much and the hotel delivered just that, an average experience. My room, 107, was dark, but quiet. It's directly across the hall from the ice maker and a large air conditioning duct, so those two machines provided white noise throughout the evening. The hotel is averagely clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have an adjoining parking lot, which is very convenient--many other downtown hotels charge $20+ per day for parking, so this was a good saving. The complimentary breakfast was good--scrambled eggs, waffles, yogurt, and cereal--the standard Quality Inn fare. For the price, the hotel was fine. It did not over or under deliver. Michael Finnegan, General Manager at Quality Inn and Suites Kansas City Downtown, responded to this review Dear Max G,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We're pleased to hear that our convenient location suited your plans for enjoying the best barbecue in KC.We appreciate your acknowledgment of our friendly and helpful staff, as well as the convenience of our complimentary parking. We're glad you found our breakfast selection satisfactory and that it met your expectations.Regarding your room experience, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the noise from the nearby ice maker and air conditioning duct. We understand how crucial a peaceful environment is for a good night's rest, and we will take your feedback into account to ensure a more tranquil experience for our guests in the future.Your comments about the cleanliness of the hotel are duly noted, and we will work diligently to ensure that our cleanliness standards are consistently maintained at a level that exceeds our guests' expectations. We appreciate your fair assessment of our offerings in relation to our pricing. Nice Hotel

    rating30 Apr 2023

Staff was very helpful and they went our of their way to be good hosts: They gave us 2 free drink vouchers, food, and cookies. This was during the draft, and they made it a really fun experience. The location was great and the breakfast was good! The rooms are certainly odd and it does not feel like a normal hotel. No art on the wall, no lamps on bedside tables. There was a great kitchenette, however.
