I do not recommend this hotel.

    rating22 Mar 2025

I will begin this review by suggesting that the hotel may be under renovation currently. The first thing I noticed when I drove up is that the front of the hotel and the grounds in general look like they were recently attacked by rockets. There is even a burned-out car in the parking lot and the entire facade of the hotel is completely demolished. The lady at the front desk was very nice even though I arrived with my daughter at about 11:30 at night. We were given a very clean room that looks like it was recently renovated. The bed was comfortable, and though the tiny refrigerator didn't work, and even if it did it only was designed to run for 2 hours at a time, the room was overall comfortable. However, we traveled with a team of other girls on the volleyball team, and their families had various results to report. One changed their reservation to another hotel because she saw mold in the bed. Another changed their reservation to another hotel because she had reserved two queen size beds for a family of four and received one king size bed. Other parents reported that their rooms were in various states of disrepair and cleanliness. The ice makers didn't work anywhere in the hotel. When I noticed that the first ice maker was out of order I went downstairs to the front desk to report it. There was a different lady at the front desk, and she said to go use the ice maker on the third floor. When I got to that ice maker, it was out of order as well. She did not tell me that she could give me ice from the ice maker behind the front desk. I went without ice that night. The pool is closed with a sign that says under maintenance, and thank God it is because it looks terrible.Breakfast - that was a new story. Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs and sausage - either links or patties, very dry, with another container of oatmeal, while on the side there was yogurt and toast and bagels. The coffee was lukewarm and the options for creamer and sugar were very limited. In fact there was no creamer at all. The lunchroom itself consisted of a small conference room with about four tables at which guests could sit, so we were a bit cramped. The tables were also of dubious cleanliness. The elevator appears to have been used to move heavy objects recently. The rug was torn and in several places there was bare wood visible underfoot.I am honestly appalled that Marriott would put their name on this hotel. I do not recommend staying here unless you are very budget conscious, and you get a very good deal on the price. Gregory Kent, General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Memphis East/Park Avenue, responded to this review Dear RegmarH:Thanks for your feedback to us, and our hotel team regrets that you were disappointed with your stay with us. We will certainly use your feedback to make improvements. We hope that you will consider staying with us again for a better experience when you are traveling in Memphis.Sincerely,Scott KentGeneral ManagerCourtyard by Marriott

    Above and Beyond Service!

    rating16 Feb 2025

The service at this hotel is outstanding! I was in town due to my father being hospitalized and chose this hotel based on location and the fact that both my son and my daughter had previously stayed here on other trips to Memphis. I also advised my brother & sister-in-law to stay here as well, which they did. Tony Griggs and his staff provided excellent service. I was obviously upset upon check-in and the genuine care the staff showed me was amazing. Tony handed me his business card and told me to email him if I needed to extend my stay. Unfortunately, both my brother and I did indeed have to extend and Tony graciously extended both of our rooms at our booking rate. My father ultimately passed away and once again we needed to extend our stays. Lisa at the front desk was amazing. She took care of extending our rooms once again. This was huge as it took at least one worry off of our plates as we made arrangements for my father. When my son arrived, he mentioned that his mom and uncle were at this hotel and that he and his family had come for the funeral. Tony was at the desk when my son checked in and immediately knew who we were and got my son taken care of as well. I saw Lisa in the mornings when I would go to the Bistro for coffee. She was so sweet to me and even worried when she didn't see me one morning (the morning my father passed away). When I saw her the next day and told her of my father's passing, she came out from behind the desk to give me a hug. This is what genuine care and comfort look like! I also have to mention Kathleen, my housekeeper throughout most of my stay. What a nice lady! She spoke to me every day, asked if I needed anything and most days would go in and refresh my room even though I told her I didn't need anything. She asked every day how my father was. Everyone at the hotel seemed to know what was going on with me and with my brother. This will be my go-to hotel for future visits as we still need to get my mother taken care of. Having worked for The Ritz-Carlton for 22 years, I can tell you that Tony, Lisa, Kathleen, and all of the other staff I encountered, provide Ritz-Carlton level service. That alone makes it worth staying at this hotel! The rooms are clean and nice. All areas of the hotel where well maintained. One item of note for business travelers especially, bring a wall charger for electronics, there are no USB ports to plug in to in the rooms. Gregory Kent, General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Memphis East/Park Avenue, responded to this review Dear alwayspeachy59:Thanks for your nice review and very kind words. Our hotel family again extends our heartfelt sympathy to you for your loss.I really appreciate your compliments to Tony, Lisa and Kathleen, each who are valued members of our Marriott family. I will share your thanks with each of them. Please visit us again when you are traveling in Memphis. All best wishes,Scott KentGeneral Manager Courtyard by Marriott

    I’ll be back!

    rating11 Jan 2025

I’m in Memphis once a month and have struggled to find decent Marriott properties. I decided to give this one a try and am so glad I did. The front desk staff were friendly and very welcoming - they even acknowledged my almost platinum status which was sweet. Bistro staff in the morning were also very friendly and efficient. The room was a little dated but it was clean and comfortable. Some of the previous reviews are very negative which made me nervous but I had a great experience and will definitely be back. Gregory Kent, General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Memphis East/Park Avenue, responded to this review Dear 710janat,Thanks for choosing to stay with us and for providing your feedback. We're very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay!We certainly look forward to welcoming you back when you're traveling in Memphis again. In the meantime, Happy New Year!Sincerely,Scott KentGeneral Manager
