  Hard to get goodnight sleep with remarkably loud elevator noise

  I would not recommend this hotel unless you can confirm that your room is nowhere near (AT LEAST 5 doors away from) their incredibly loud elevators.We were across a hall and two doors down from the elevators - and it sounded like someone was using an electric drill (or a very loud shredding machine) on the ceiling above our room. This noise lasted for a couple seconds only - but repeated every 15 seconds or so. The staff were all very friendly and polite but seemed a bit "off." When we asked what the unusually loud noise was, one of the staff members met us in the hallway outside our room. Even with the elevator "drilling" in the background, she indicated "no guests had complained about the elevator noise." Looking at other TripAdvisor reviews and reviews on IHG's own website, other guests have indeed been complaining about the elevator noise at this property - for years. One guest complained about the loud noise even though he was five doors away from the elevator! I can believe the loud noise would be heard at least that far away.Two things made the experience even more frustrating. I had asked for a quiet room; and at checkin, the friendly and polite staff member at the desk confirmed she was putting us in a quiet room "away from the elevator." And then on checkout the next morning, the friendly and polite staff member said that management had noted we had issues with the elevator noise the previous night and so was arranging some sort of refund/credit (without our having asked for any refund/credit). That promised refund/credit never happened. That's particularly bad service - to inform a guest of a pending refund/credit and then not actually issue it. Again - all service delivered in a friendly and polite tone - but missing some basic service competencies.The property itself is good, excluding the elevator noise. It is conveniently located near the airport. The property was clean and felt safe. Our rooms were decently appointed and everything worked fine.If sleep is important to you, and the noise of drilling above your head would keep you from a good night's rest, I would recommend booking at a different hotel. If staying at this hotel, I would be sure to stay at least five doors away from the elevators and to pack earplugs.   Maybe the best HI Express I've ever stayed at. Modern, fresh, spotlessly clean, great beds, friendly staff, great breakfast. My only complaint was the desk chair was some modernistic thing that had no real back.   I witnessed a disgruntled customer approach Sabrina at the front desk. She stayed calm and found a solution for the customer and was able to provide customer service and diffuse the situation while still following the hotel’s policy.   Near the Airport

  I have had good success with Holiday Inn Express hotels recently, and this location was not an exception. Easy and welcoming check-in, help with directions and suggestions for gas, dinner, etc. Hotel is being worked on to update rooms and we stayed in one. Nice upgrade, comfortable bed, convenient furniture set up, and lighting and chargers/electrical outlets were strategically located.Parking garage is attached to the hotel, with a security gate for access, so safe and convenient.Breakfast was the traditional HIE style, with several quality choices of hot food and pancakes, etc, well presented with a large eating/seated area. Booked the HIE for its convenient location near the airport for a morning departure home. It was very easy to get to the airport, return our car, and our flight home.   One night stop as part of a touring trip around Texas. Hotel was as required based on proximity to my requirements, required cleanliness, comfortable beds and breakfast to start the day.Does have a pool but weather was too cold to try it - at least for me. Good location for restaurant options.
