Location

The hotel is situated right by the harbour on Shelter Island. Guests may enjoy views out over the private marina. SeaWorld, the Zoo and the beaches are just 10 minutes away.

Facility

Guests have a choice of 175 rooms located in a 2-storey main building and 6 auxiliary buildings. Guests are warmly welcomed by English-speaking staff at the 24-hour reception desk in the lobby. Check-in/check-out service is available round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a cash machine. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities and 2 lifts. There are a number of shops as well. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional facilities include a playroom. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (no extra charge) or in the car park. Other services include a 24-hour security service, a babysitting service, a car hire service, room service, an alarm call service, a laundry service and a coin-operated laundry. A bicycle hire service provides all the necessary equipment for exploring the surrounding area. Complimentary newspapers are available. A business centre with fax machine and projector is available.

Rooms

Air conditioning and individually adjustable heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Guests can enjoy the view of the promenade from a balcony or terrace. All rooms are carpeted and include a king-size bed and a sofa bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Additional features include a refrigerator, a microwave and a tea/coffee station. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, an alarm clock and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. The daily newspaper is laid out for guests in the the rooms. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower, a bathtub and a whirlpool bath. A hairdryer and a telephone are available for daily use. As a special feature, bathrooms are also stocked with cosmetic products and a selection of towels. Guests can also book wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. The hotel has family rooms and non-smoking rooms.

Sport

The pleasantly warm water of the pool complex, which includes 2 outdoor and indoor pools, guarantees comfortable swimming. Refreshing drinks at the pool bar and a relaxing soak in the hot tub offer the perfect way to unwind. The sun loungers are perfect for soaking up some sun. For guests who wish to keep active, cycling/mountain biking, tennis and fishing are available. With canoeing, sailing, catamaraning and kayaking available, fans of water sports will have plenty to choose from. Sport and leisure facilities at the hotel include a gym and aerobics. Various wellness options are available at the hotel, including a spa, a sauna, massage treatments and a solarium.

Meals

The dining area includes a bar. A number of specialities await guests in the air-conditioned, non-smoking restaurant. A wide variety of dishes are served at all three main mealtimes. Guests can enjoy lunch and dinner as a set menu. Staff are also happy to provide children's meals.

    We had a wonderful stay at the Best Western Island Palms, and one of the highlights of our visit was Vanessa A. She was incredibly friendly, professional, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we interacted with her. Vanessa went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and took the time to answer our questions with a smile.Customer service like hers makes a huge difference and really adds to the overall guest experience. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and in a fantastic location, but Vanessa’s exceptional hospitality is what truly stood out.     This hotel would be amazing if it wasn't for the fact that the rooms aren't being maintained. On my first stay I notified the Director of Guest Services of the issues that that room had: termite damage, non-functioning patio door handle, and a damaged toilet. He assured me that they would do better the next time. On our second stay we arrived to a room that must have been in the 90 degree temperature and the fan sounded like it was going to fall off. They "noted the damage" but the fan was never fixed during the 4 days that we stayed there. The room wasn't properly stocked with missing trash bags and only one towel. To top it off the remote didn't work. To compensate for the issue the director thanked me for "the time to share my thoughts."     Very clean, comfortable, located near airport and other attractions. Off the busy beaten path a bit, so that's nice and quiet. Great walking across from pier and waterway. Helpful staff. On-site restaurant/lounge that actually has decent food and prices. Daily specials, too. I loved the wooden shutters as opposed to funky old curtains. Price was great. You do have to pay for parking...but it also means nobody is using the private lot to access the pier and no hunt for a parking space. Each room has a private access patio with cushioned chairs. Bird watching is great there.Nice place.
