  Apartment in HCMC - basic, fine for a couple of nights

  The apartment we stayed in was spacious but dated and not as clean as other places we stayed. It was perfectly fine but nothing special. The building is also opposite one of the red light districts of HCMC. It was fine for a couple of nights but I was happy to leave and move on to better accommodation.

  Let down by poor internet

  Stayed at Room 1509 for 5 nights. Room not too bad, clean and location of Lancaster is within walking distance to key shopping centers, central market, cathedral, etc. Staff very friendly, helpful and polite. But the internet service is really bad - very very slow; in fact we gave up after a few days of attempts to surf for anything on the internet.

  The room is clean as well but the thing is there is lacking stuff for us. We had a so so time here 2 days. The staff is really polite.Good location in japan town so it is easy for you to catch the center

  This was our 3rd time at the Lancaster, we had a studio apartment each time, staying between 1 - 2 weeks each time. There is a small kitchen area-but why you would want to cook instead of eating out is beyond me. Nice couch/TV area, and sleeping area. Rooms were nicely serviced daily. Location is great- can walk to many areas (central market, post office, independence palace, and more). On the first floor there is a 7-11 type market where you can find most of what you might need. There are nearby ATMs. They can arrange to have a driver pick you up at the airport, if you don't want to "experience" the taxi line. International flights typically arrive >10pm and it looks like half the people in HCM are there. Some general issue to keep in mind when walking around the city:Sidewalks are NEVER as flat or even as you think Sidewalks are not immune to scooter trafficStairways always seem to have one more or one fewer steps than you anticipate and the height of each step can vary.Crossing streets: It is OK to have a WTF moment, but get over it. Don't challenge cars/trucks, but the ever swarming scooters will go around you IF you walk at a steady pace and DO NO STOP in the middle of the street. Imagine scuba diving through a school of fish- they just go around you.Seriously consider avoiding tap water, ice in drinks, possibly fresh veggies. Not everyone is affected, but why chance it? Besides, there is plenty of cold beer, but tell them not to put ice in the glass, most places will put a big chunk of ice in the glass unless you say otherwise.If you get tired of walking, taxis are relatively cheap by US standards. Taxis from the airport to the Lancaster were about 150,000VND, a bit under $7; taxis arranged by the Lancaster are a bit more, but for me, well worth being picked up and helped with luggage.

  Reasonably good place to stay with lots of bars and restaurants close by

  Place is nice and clean, spacious room but is beginning to show signs of age, will need refurbishment soon. No restaurant although there is a convenience store at ground level selling all kinds of essentials. Was amazed when I went to the gym to be asked to pay extra because I had booked through Agoda. Wonder what next, maybe they ask to pay for clean towels???
