    Unhygienic hotel -avoid,

    rating20 Jun 2024

My wife and I were part of a tour group. This hotel is by far the worst in the tour for unhygienic rooms, and unhelpful staff. We were allocated the cheapest rooms which are far below the standard compared to the 4-star hotels during the rest of our tour. The room smelt of stale smoke, which only got worse when the air conditioner is switched on suggesting the filters are not changed or cleaned regularly. There was rubbish from previous guests behind the minibar fridge and furniture. The room had a double bed and two single beds taking up most of the floor spaces, even though we were only 2 guests. The manager tried to explain that all the rooms have 4 beds, and even offered us an alternative room with 4 single beds as a better option when I complained. None of the rooms looked like those advertised, but she argued they all had 4 beds and as she placed the photos online so she knew what the rooms looked like, and continued to argue even when I showed her the room pictures on Booking.com. with 1 double bed. Her answer was, those rooms are not available for the tour group even though they are the pictures shown in our tour description and online. As for the bathroom, no floor mat, the shower had black mould down the sides and in the tile grouting, the glass panels and doors had an accumulation of water marks, soap scum, limescale, etc. suggesting they do not get cleaned between guests. The rectangular shower drain cover did not fit the drain hole, and I cut my foot on the sharp metal edge that sticks up. The alternative room (with the 4 beds) was identical: soap scum, black mould, ill-fitting drain cover and no floor mat. I physical accompanied tne manager to inspect the room when she decided to appear, showed her the faults, dirt and my foot injury, but she insisted she checked the rooms before arrival and in her opinion they were clean and perfectly acceptable by her standards. We were advised not the drink the tap water, and all other hotels provided free bottled water in the rooms, but not this hotel - you were directed to a fridge at reception where you could buy their bottled water. The room was in the worst location: on the first floor at the back of the hotel and was directly above the service yard, and delivery entrance. We checked in at 7pm and our tour guide immediately took us on a walking tour before showing us places where we could dine for our evening meal. When we got back to our room at 9:30pm to shower and go to bed started to discover the numerous problems, we packed our bags at went to reception to complain and give back our key. The receptionist was unhelpful, phoned the manager who was off site, and handed me the phone but the manager argued that we had used the room for 3 hours already and should have complained at check-in, that there was nothing wrong with the room, and had the receptionist show me an alternative room one floor up but equally unacceptable. She then said there were no other rooms available as the hotel was full, however, when I had to phone the in-tour 24-hour helpline in the UK for their intervention and to summon our tour guide, only then was there a reluctant decision to find us a room in another hotel next door. A very unpleasant experience as the hotel staff were initially very unhelpful and rude. My wife has a chronic lung disease and needs to use supplementary oxygen, so staying in such an unhygienic room was simply out of the question, but the attitude at the hotel appeared to be that we were part of a tour group, we can only stay in the low grade room, and there was nothing wrong with the room in their eyes
