    Salmonella

    rating04 Sept 2026

Our flight was delayed by 3 hours and so we arrived late evening. We had a warm welcome and were shown to our room. We could believe how amazing the setting was when we pulled the curtains back. In the morning, in the harsh light of day, we saw how tired the room looked, and as others have said, the rooms need a complete refurbishment. We were returning to Antigua for the second time but this time with our teenage boys to celebrate our anniversary. The setting is amazing and the people wonderful and we were having a wonderful time swimming and out on the water, playing tennis and using the spa etc. The food was of a high standard overall and we made a point of only eating and drinking at the hotel for safety. It is not my nature to leave a poor review but my wife felt unwell for the last couple of days of our 11 night stay. She then slept on the entire 11 hour flight home, feeling very sick. On returning home, she had no energy and was really unwell. Upon going to our GP, tests showed that she had Salmonella. I contacted the hotel and Brian replied saying that there were no other reported cases, wished her a speedy recovery, but that was it.We won’t be returning to Carlisle Bay.

Grande Dame is back in force

    rating15 Aug 2026

We have just got home from a truly amazing 9 nights at CB and having been asked by a lot of family and friends for an update of how the hotel was this is what I have told them.We last visited a few years ago and were totally blown away by the incredible beach, it is the most stunning setting. We have been watching as hotel has been updated a lot since we last visited and couldn’t wait to come back , all new elegant furniture and the service has been super. The food and attention to detail has been stepped up as well, we felt really looked after. There are some more renovations going on this summer and from October will be the time to see this hotel in its full glory, we will definitely have a third visit next year! The challenges of running a hotel on an Island when your up against constant weather changes and multiple-day carnivals where the whole Island joins in must be huge, we felt that Brian had put everything in place so the guests had a great time relaxing and the staff still got to go have fun.Speaking to staff members it’s super clear how they feel super valued having been given an opportunity to go to Ireland and be trained on different skills , we loved to hear all about their personal growth, it was clear to us that the entire team was being pushed to be the best.To summarise beach is stunning , the food is delicious , rooms are now updated , the hotel is back to being the Grande dame of the Caribbean.Thank you Brian and Tony and team. You spoiled us.

Another Wonderful Stay, Somehow Even Better Than Last Year

    rating21 Jul 2026

There’s always a slight worry about booking the same hotel for a second year in a row. Would it live up to our memories? I am delighted to say that not only did Carlisle Bay live up to them, it actually exceeded them. From the moment we arrived, the resort airport transfer was seamless and welcoming, the perfect start to a relaxing holiday.Carlisle Bay is the definition of understated luxury. Nothing ever feels forced or over the top; everything is simply done exceptionally well. The resort is immaculate, beautifully maintained and there’s a genuine feeling that nothing is ever too much trouble. What really makes Carlisle Bay special, though, is the people. Seeing some familiar faces from last year genuinely made us smile and every member of the team made us feel so welcome. Their warmth and kindness are what turn a beautiful hotel into somewhere that feels like home. There were so many highlights: feeding the resident tortoises, laughing through Crazy Couch, listening to the steel band at Jetty Grill and taking the fascinating garden tour to learn about the incredible horticulture around the resort. But perhaps my favourite moment each day was simply stepping straight from our suite onto the beach each morning – the most peaceful and relaxing way to start the day.The dining was excellent throughout. East remains absolutely spectacular and is a must visit, while the pizzas at Ottimo were as delicious as ever.We also chartered a boat for the day with Barefoot Antigua, which was another fantastic experience and the perfect way to explore the island from the water. Will we be back next year? I sincerely hope so. Carlisle Bay has become one of those rare places that feels like a second home and we are genuinely sad to leave. Thank you to everyone for another unforgettable stay. special mentions have to go to:Hilma at the beach, Michael, Georgier and Kate at Indigo, Jason at Indigo bar, LaToya at Ottimo, Sylvester & Elliot in the garden, Jay-ciee and my biggest shout out has to be to Vida In housekeeping. We can’t wait to return. Matthew Poole, General Manager at Carlisle Bay Antigua, responded to this review Dear ReigateF,Thank you for such a wonderful review and, most importantly, for choosing to return to Carlisle Bay for a second year. There is perhaps no greater compliment than hearing that a return visit not only lived up to your memories, but exceeded them. Your description of Carlisle Bay as understated luxury, where everything feels natural rather than forced, is particularly lovely to read and very much reflects the experience we strive to create.I am delighted that you enjoyed so many different parts of the resort, from the garden tour, Crazy Couch and our resident tortoises to the steel band at Jetty Grill, East, Ottimo and those peaceful mornings stepping straight from your suite onto the beach.Above all, thank you for your generous words about our team. Hilma, Michael, Georgier, Kate, Jason, LaToya, Sylvester, Elliot, Jay-eice and, of course, Vida will all be delighted to know that they helped make your return visit so memorable. I will make sure your special recognition is shared with each of them.It means a great deal when returning guests reconnect with familiar faces and begin to feel that Carlisle Bay is somewhere they can truly call a second home. We certainly hope this was not your last visit and very much look forward to welcoming you back for a third stay next year.Warm regards,
