Terrible Hotel with Moldy Room and Poor Service

    rating14 Jan 2026

Terrible hotel. My room was full of mold. It smelled so bad. Turning on the air conditioner just made the mold even worse because there was mold in the AC unit as well. The manager refused to refund me at all and just offered a different room. He did not guarantee that the new room would be free of mold. He also told me that they had just painted the room a few days ago, and it was already this moldy again. It was terrible. I left early. Gustavo Cabero, Otro at Hotel 8 de Octubre, responded to this review Dear Meamder, We sincerely regret the situation you described. We understand that everything you mentioned has been inconvenient, and we are working to resolve this issue. Unfortunately, you were assigned a room that was undergoing maintenance, and we made a mistake. As the person responsible, I extend my apologies and hope you will consider giving us another opportunity. Sincerely, Gustavo Cabero, Management.

    Reasonable hotel

    rating15 Jun 2018

Reasonable hotel with perfectly acceptable Wi-Fi speed and coverage.Room had efficient air conditioning and comfortable bed. On the downside the hot water on some days was only available after 7am – annoying if you want an early shower. Housekeeping also ungenerous with consumables – in fact I had to ask reception for toilet paper on one occasion!Breakfast was satisfactory and includes scrambled eggs although the coffee was distinctly unimpressive.Other guests seemed to be all Latin American but reception staff could converse in English adequately well.Hotel is in a good location close to metro stations and amenities. The immediate streets nearby were quite desolated at night but it did not seem to be particularly dangerous. Cordialmente, Gustavo Cabero.

    Decent hotel for its price

    rating12 Mar 2018

Good location, spacious rooms, good noice protection. Staff hardly speaks english, but friendly and could get around. Breakfast is not as good as it could be: the only hot dish - scrambled eggs - is always out. I even tried to come to the very start of the breakfast, but is not there yet. And kitchen staff is not friendly and does not care much about what's going on. Cordialmente, Gustavo Cabero, Gerencia.

    Decent place for the price

    rating07 Apr 2012

I stayed here because I wanted to be in the center of the city and I belong to a credit-card point plan that allowed me to use points rather than paying cash. It was a pretty average Buenos Aires hotel -- spare, clean rooms; too much noise from doors and elevators at certain times of day and night. Management was clearly making an effort to keep the place up -- while I was there, workers were painting the lobby, and the carpet had been cleaned recently. One computer in the lobby for free internet access; 2 would've been nice, but most of the time I had access to the computer when I needed it.Breakfast buffet was average Argentine continental, although the scrambled eggs were good (I really need protein in the morning) and the sweet medialunas quite tasty. Most staff members were friendly, although a few were a little stiff, and it really helped that I spoke decent (not great) Spanish.Although I wasn't bowled over, I'd probably stay here again. I don't have a huge travel budget, and I loved that the hotel was within walking distance of Recoleta Cemetery, Avenida 9 de Julio, Plaza de Mayo, and the subway. The 8 de Octubre could benefit from adopting the "green hotel" concept – it was hard to control water flow in the shower, so low-flow shower heads would be ideal, and there’s often no need to replace guests’ towels and sheets each day unless they request it. I’ve stayed at other hotels in Argentina that did this, and it worked great.
