messy kitchen but rooms are good

    rating18 Apr 2025

The best part was the people who work at the front desk in the daytime. They were so nice and friendly and helpful and welcoming and just great. The worst part was that coming down in the mornings you get a visceral sense of (the gross kind of) drunks from the wee hours beforehand. They maybe shouldn’t be allowed in the kitchen if they are that drunk?Or maybe they should be encouraged to clean up after themselves just a little more? Sinks were stopped up with food, full of dirty water and dishes. stovetops covered in oil and gunk and bits of pasta. all surfaces gunked up and covered with dirty dishes etc. The dishes sitting in the drying rack that were supposed to be the clean ones, well.. this is the kitchen that can bring out some ocd and germaphobia, even if you’re not prone to it. Scientists should look here to discover new strains of rare bacteria. All this said, the hostel employs several women who come and diligently clean this mess every morning. they do an amazing job. It was kind of weird and sad to see them cleaning up after drunks day after day and nothing is said to the people to gently encourage them to clean up after themselves. but it was clean when they were done, and they were nice as well. Yesterday late morning there was a guy still passed out on the sofa downstairs that we could all see from the common room. The rooms are clean, basic and fine. Seba Vinagura, Director General at America del Sur Hostel, responded to this review Hi, thank you for your detailed feedback — we truly appreciate the time you took to share both the positives and the areas we need to improve. We’re very happy to hear your kind words about our front desk team and housekeeping staff. We’ll make sure to share this with them — it means a lot.Regarding the kitchen and common areas, you’re absolutely right. As a social hostel, shared spaces can sometimes get out of hand, especially during late hours. That said, it’s our responsibility to ensure these areas remain clean and comfortable for everyone. We are currently reinforcing housekeeping schedules and working on clearer guidelines to encourage guests to clean up after themselves.Thank you again — feedback like yours helps us get better every day.

    Best choice ever!

Well, that hostel has got everything you'd want when you're traveling on a tight budget. The staff are kind, funny, and attentive, the spaces are clean, the rooms are modern, and it's right smack dab in the center of everything in the soulful city center (San Telmo). Plus, there are activities organized by the hostel staff every day.My plan was originally to stay there for 3 days, but I ended up staying for almost a month!Oh, and when you walk in, make sure to ask for Ramon and shout "BUENOOOOOSS AIREEEEEEEES" - that'll score you a 50% discount on chili bombs across the street :P@Nicole, Roman, Juliet, Eze, Manuel: Thanks a bunch, guys! You made my stay unforgettable. See you soon <3 Seba Vinagura, Director General at America del Sur Hostel, responded to this review Hi, wow — what a review! Thank you so much for sharing this 🙌We’re incredibly happy to hear that what started as a 3-day stay turned into almost a month… that’s probably the best compliment we can get. It’s great to know you enjoyed the atmosphere, location, activities, and especially our team. We’ll make sure Nicole, Roman, Juliette, Eze and Manuel see your message — they’ll absolutely love it.And about Ramon… let’s just say you’ve learned the local secrets pretty well 😄Safe travels and our doors are always open for your next Buenos Aires adventure!

    Moldy luggage

    rating20 Feb 2024

Don’t go there unless you have no option. It’s noisy and expensive. We left our luggage with them for two weeks and they were wet and moldy when we got it back. Obviously, someone dropped liquid on it or worst, there was a pipe leak! Now I don’t have any warm clothes to go to Patagonia. I have three kids. The only reason we chose to go there is because they offered a luggage deposit and we want to travel “light” for a week Uruguay and an other in Iguazu. So we stayed 4 nights and left some luggage for two weeks. Our stay was not pleasant: the whole hostel is really noisy and we heard everything that was going on in the lobby from our room on the 4th floor. That means we woke up at 6 because the islandic elderly group decided to cheer their guide every morning and went to bed listening to old rock metal every night because the employee at the desk felt that was appropriate ambient music. Not pleasant.Staff is ok and it’s clean, but you can get WAY better in BA for that price. Seba Vinagura, Director General at America del Sur Hostel, responded to this review Hi, we’re truly sorry to read about your experience, especially regarding your luggage. We understand how frustrating this must have been, particularly while traveling with your family. After reviewing the situation, we identified that there was an unexpected issue with a pipe in the storage area, which has now been fully repaired. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused. This is not the standard we aim to provide, and we would really like to review your specific case and assist you. Please contact us directly so we can work on a proper solution. We also take note of your comments regarding noise and are actively working on improving guest comfort.Thank you for your feedback.
