Avoid Hotel Emperador for better options in Recoleta

    rating22 May 2026

Hotel Emperador certainly nails the location, placing you right in the heart of Recoleta, but that is unfortunately where the perks end. It is truly disappointing to find a property marketed as a five-star establishment failing so spectacularly at the basics of hospitality. We stayed for a full week, yet our in-room coffee supplies were provided only on the first night, and the breakfast service was, frankly, abysmal. It is hard to shake the impression that the hotel is struggling to remain profitable, as the pervasive atmosphere of penny-pinching and the noticeable absence of standard services make it clear that guest comfort is no longer their priority. For the price point they are demanding, the experience feels entirely out of sync with expectations for this tier of hotel. I strongly encourage anyone planning a trip to Buenos Aires to look into the myriad of other choices within the Recoleta neighborhood. There are several alternatives that are comparatively priced but offer a level of service and attention to detail that actually honors the "five-star" designation. Save yourself the frustration and choose a property that treats its guests with the standard of care they deserve.

    Good in parts.

We stayed at this hotel either side of a Hurtigruten cruise to Antarctica. The room on both occasions was lovely and you could not fault the facilities. Breakfast was a bit chaotic given the large number of guests but the waiting staff were very helpful. The staff in Oliver's Bar on the first visit were poor (I raised this at the time) but on the second stay all was absolutely fine. The hotel is centrally located and a good base for exploring the City.

Very nice hotel in great location for exploring

    rating20 Apr 2026

This is a very nice hotel at the south end of the downtown area. It is in a good location for exploring the area and is a short walk from the Recoleta neighborhood. A little thin on nearby restaurants. Good-sized rooms with in-room safes and wi-fi. Great sound-proofing, couldn't hear the traffic on the boulevard below. Extensive breakfast buffet. Pleasant patio garden in the back. They were using the bar area as the restaurant while we were there. Good, but not great, food, erratic service. In Argentina it seems that the waiters will only bring the bill when asked, otherwise they feel it is bad form to present the bill unasked. Go to the top floor sun terrace for nice views. Gestor de Experiencia, Guest Services / Front Office at Emperador Hotel Buenos Aires, responded to this review Dear Guest, thank you for your wonderful feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our location and amenities. Your comments regarding the breakfast buffet and the sun terrace are greatly appreciated. We hope to welcome you back for another memorable stay.Best regards,Yamila CarulliFront Desk Manager

A great base in Buenos Aires

    rating10 Apr 2026

I used the hotel as a base in Buenos Aires before heading down to Ushuaia and the Chilean fjords. After a long flight I arrived at the hotel around 11:30 and was grateful for an early check in. I was allocated a corner room on a high floor with lovely views of the port and city. I loved the design of the room, very modern and cool blues, whites and creams. Great bathroom with a tub and walk-in shower. Very comfortable bed too. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide range of choices. The hotel bar was a quiet retreat from the bustle of the city. Great cocktails. I ate here on two nights and the food and service were excellent. I was able to walk to all the attractions I wanted to see but cabs are plentiful and cheap, when I needed a cab I used Cabify, booking was efficient and the drivers very good. All in all a great place to stay in Buenos Aires. Gestor de Experiencia, Guest Services / Front Office at Emperador Hotel Buenos Aires, responded to this review Dear Mr. Paul K, thank you for your wonderful review.
